If you think you are stressed now because of you thesis statement, just imagine how you would feel if you don't get a real archive system (backup) for your computer and your hard drive crashes a few weeks before you are done! Get an external hard drive and learn how to make daily and monthly backups!

For the thesis statement, ask your advisor about the criteria that is used in your department, then follow that criteria.

It IS an external harddrive ...

Which is really bothering me, because I've tried to plug it in to other computers, and it wouldn't work. It's apparently because it doesn't have enough power to run? But it didn't come with any kind of wall plug in or anything, so I'm not really sure what to do.

OK. You might already know this, but here it goes. Some USB plugs are "low power," such as the ones on your keyboard or monitor. If you plug it into the back of the computer, you should have a "high power" USB.

If it worked without a power cord before, then theoretically it could work without a power cord now (unless it's totally fried). Is there a port on the back that looks like a power cord input???

Also, if the drive in question is an external drive, then you need an additional place to store a copy of that data. I worked as a database consultant and I can tell you that hard drives do fail. The hard drive on my personal laptop once drive failed two weeks before finals, and I had a couple term papers due. I had a current backup and an extra computer with all the required software, and kept on schedule.
