  • Wow! Just...Wow!!

  • Ok- I came for the song and found a mystery- OK a 2:04 a dog appears at treys feet--then disappears off front stage at 2:08 again--but then just before biginning- REAPPEARS from under a speaker @2:16 like a junkyard dog-- MY FAVORITE(Its in the timing) I SAW YOU !

  • this is back when phish was just sushi

  • @1000guitar0001 : That's pretty clever :) You win!!

  • 1:25 ... You really expect Trey to dance like that :P Great performance

  • Big Red played a Kramer guitar in the begining.I was at the ranch that day..I dont think Paul was building axes back then...still remember that day like it was yesterday us oldtimers rule!

  • gotta love that twangy guitar tone treys got

  • its a TIME guitar. languedoc worked for the burlington guitar company until it burned down in 88 or 89.. some of trey other older guitars include an white ibanez musician(i think thats whats its called) i do think he did play this time guitar on junta for a few tracks.. maybe this one(golgi)!

  • what kind of guitar was trey playing in those days?

  • I don't know for certain, but it sure looks like an earlier version of the Languedocs he plays now.

  • I don't think Languedoc would have made that, it's a solid body with strat type electronics I think, and locking tuners. I think this is maybe an Ibanez or something like that half strat knockoff.

  • It was made by a VT company called Time Guitars, Paul Languadoc worked for them at this time and that is how Trey became friends with Paul.

  • Sweet thanks. Now that you say that i guess I had heard about time reading about Paul before...

  • good call on Marley

  • Marley comes in before the song starts and sits down next to Trey

  • I went to high school in the same town where this video was made at the this hippy school called Gailer. In 10th grade biology we had to do presentations on cell structure. I got to golgi with my friend ben and when the day came we I read a couple paragraphs about golgi apparatus, threw on the junta version of this song, sat back and made our class listen to the whole thing. Half way through we thought to ourselves "what the hell are we doing?" to our surprise we got an A :)

  • woah nice clean run at 4:33...

  • Sad, I was only 3 years old when all this great music was being made and played by phish :*( at least they are back! Phish FTW!

  • yup if this is 87 i was 2.....booo... sux right? i could have still seen stevie ray vaughn too in my life time...but would have never known what i saw....im so i happy i saw them during their reunion it tour and their 09 tour.............FESTIVAL 8........HERE I COME.....lucky me its only 2 1/2 hrs from me : )

  • i was jus about a glimpse in my rents eyes! i love PHISH!!!!

  • harryhood44 they wrote makisupa policeman in the 3rd grade im pretty sure as he stated on some interview. Search around and you may see what i mean

  • Trey says that in their interview with some guy at the state theater in Kalamazoo. June 19.... 1994? Its on youtube. just search phish interview

  • like photographing a cave or something.

  • Ha ha. Is that Marley?

  • man treys lines just fuckin around hes so creative and fluent...... its just like such a difference to hear him play now and back then

  • hes got perfect rhythm. I love how he always changes the accents and his improvisations here are very unique

  • I love how the dog walks right through the stage.

  • el mejor tema del mundo

  • Fracking phenomenal- this is fantastic- way ahead of their time

  • defentantly, and for a band to write this kind of stuff so early in their existance is almost unheard of

  • actually I think trey wrote it in highschool or some shit like that.

    he, marshall and another dude.

  • he wrote it in 8th grade.. marshall wrote makisupa policeman in middle school too

  • he wrote it in grade 8

  • marley sighting

  • @mechalechahi he goes on stage in antelope

  • This is really lovely footage. I am assuming the video and audio were synced from different sources, since the audio is relatively clear unclipped sound. Anyway, put up more technical info about this particular clip. Wonderful footage, thank you.

  • I can not get enough of this whole day they were totally on point and having A blast and at the same time sounding absolutely amazing.

Thank you sooooo much for this old school footage,

old school footage is always my favorite

because you can tell that the bands are playing because they truly love to play.

  • im a big phan of '93-'96, it was just pure psychedelic intensity every year. however i could just as easily say my favorite era is '84-'00, '03-'04, and '09-?. :) i just love it all. see you this summer

  • When I was in highschool, I had a few older friends who would force me to listen to Phish. They did the follow them around selling PB&J thing for a couple of years...till they broke up. I never really got into them. This was one of the first songs I remember listening to. This, and Divided Sky. Now, I have a new found admiration for their talent and abilities. In short, I'm becoming a phan.

  • totally right, phish was so tight at 2:44 with at sixteen note triplet run.

  • that was amazing wow

  • Comment removed

  • even more technical, they can be triplets or sixteenth note triplets depending on what you are considering to be the quarter note ;)

  • I missed where you said 16th note triplets...my bad.

  • Man i just love it love it love it

  • even thur the pixelation, i can still see Trey looks like a 22 year old 80's nerd. ROFL! Classic. Wish i was there. Cuz I'm sure the audio was better in person. :)

  • I got goosebumps!!! Got my tickets!!!!

  • are they stuffed in your hand?

  • Actually that is a Time guitar which was a guitar company that their sound guy, paul languedoc worked for which eventually went under & paul began making guitars alone. The Ibanez was before this & it was white with humbuckers

  • shit they had cool long hair, way hippier all around

  • 2:44 you dont hear that tight rehearsed sound no mo do ya thats because when you get rich you get lazy.

  • 2:44, yeah, that's rare.

  • GOLGI!!!

  • Shit. They were tight back then. They played with more emotion pre 95.

  • People don't know how good they had it back then.

  • Hey, I recognize this song. I always thought it was called "Theme From Auschwitz." Huh. My bad. It's called "Golgi Apparatus," I guess. Go fig.

  • This is before Languedoc. That's an Ibanez Trey is playing in '87.

  • Did anyone notice Trey almost falling over at about 4:19?

  • Trey is just the best guitarist i have ever heard.

  • i was 6 days old =]

    such a classic!

  • whats the order of the set?

  • 5/20/87. I was four months old. :-)

  • old skoolz:P

  • isn't this at Bran Sand's house?

  • trey rips guitar

  • Does anyone know how Trey gets that sound on his guitar?

  • he fooled around with knobs for a lifetime till he found something he liked

  • actually, it is the guitar that trey gets that fat sound from... Paul Languedoc has custom built treys guitars

  • This song helped me so much in general bio.

  • classic and so close to home , mine and theirs!!!!!!!!!

  • thats awesome video like this is out there, classic reel

  • Trey looks like that ugly kid from the 1985 movie "Mask"

  • hahah hilarious

  • classic.
