  • Is this 1018 steel ?were can i ge it from?

  • @ljwartuk

It's just bright flat steel bar, you can buy off cuts on ebay

  • @ultimatehandyman WHATS THE BEST WAY TO CUT SHAPES OUT OF IT?

  • @ljwartuk

It depends what tools you have available.

If you have a pillar drill and some files you can cut out almost any shape by chain drilling and then filing.

  • can I use any kind of oil for lubrification, like motor oil or something similar?

  • @paduroiul

Yes, any kind of oil is better than using nothing.

    You can even use water

  • great video, very thorough!

  • @kitschetc

    Thanks for the comment ;-)

  • Thank you so much

  • @Gonamez

    You are welcome!

  • thanks, i'll go for cobalt

  • @marvesmarves

    You are welcome!

Cobalt drills are an excellent choice ;-)

  • My drill bit does not penetrate on metal, but smaller one does, im using a ryobi wood and metal drill bit

  • @marvesmarves

You are better off using HSS or cobalt drill bits.

I'm not familiar with the ryobi bits that you mention. But the Bosch multi-construction drill bits will drill wood, metal or masonry but not as good as a dedicated metal drilling drill bit.

  • you should also use cutting or tapping fluid as well when drilling metal no matter how many holes your drilling, you need to keep the bit cool or you can chip or damage or even dull your drill bit pretty fast

  • very useful vid man

but what if i already got a 1/4" hole and im trying to make it bigger to 3/8"

what do you do then? explain please

  • @concussedcarneous

If it is thin metal you can just use a step drill, but for anything else just put a 3/8" drill though the existing hole. It will go through a 1/4" easily.

  • what do i do if im drilling into a inch thick piece? please reply

  • @bagofbones11

Make sure you use plenty of coolant.

If the hole is large you need to drill through with a smaller drill bit first.

The general rule when drilling metal is the larger the diameter drill bit you use the slower the speed of the drill should be.

If the drill bit stops cutting you may need to remove it and sharpen it

  • @ultimatehandyman thank you very much.

  • @bagofbones11

    You are welcome!
