  • WTF!!!! the best singer nowadays, this is for sure. What an amazing technique combined with her amazing interpretation , spiced with sensuality

  • She makes me think I may not hate Rossini but only the horrid singers who sing it badly. Ms Garanca is such a good singer she makes the runs exciting and beautiful!!!

  • amazing!!!

  • Brava e decisamente bella

  • brava e bella

  • great voice, but aggressive for rosina

  • I would happily die listening to the voice of this beauty. She sings as though she's holding your hand and doing it just for you.

  • Great rendition, bravo Elina Garanca!

  • What a charming Lady with a great gift of voice !!! The Olympians will be pleased listening to her. She is great !!! Hera may be jealous ...........

  • brava!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A beautiful LADY with a beautiful voice

  • .How very beautifull woman and excellent singer/

  • Mon dieu, she is incredible. She keeps amazing me every time I hear her.

  • She looks so different than in other videos I've seen of her on youtube. What did she do to her face?? Is it just me? I think maybe it's her nose. Or maybe her face is just thinner. Either way, she looks and sounds beautiful. Can anyone tell me when was this recorded?

  • hermosa voz!!!

  • This is one of the most difficult songs because you need an incredible voice range to sing it and Ms. Garanca has it, in deed she does!!!!!

  • Deliciosamente espectacular! ...

  • Maravilhosamente Fantástico! ...

  • Elina vislabaka!super!

  • to nagranie bardzo lubię, gdyż spotkały tu się dwie babeczki, przed którymi wymiękam: Elina i Keri-Lynn! thank you - techtrom.

  • She is good.

  • I add that she is a Mezzo Soprano.... or probly a Dramatic Soprano (Soprano Drammatico)..... this Aria is for Liric Soprano or even a Light Liric Soprano..... very good imho :)

  • @Vegetth87 Well, Rossini wrote this aria for a mezzo. See the score. Now many lyric and leggero soprano have sung it and adorned it with lots of coloratura. But the author's idea was to create a wily, crafty Rossina, not an ingenue.

  • @Vegetth87 Rossini wrote this for his wife who was mezzo.

  • @HappyHounde actually he wrote it for a contralto, but it's most frequently sung by a mezzo coloratura

  • the end of this sounds EXACTLY like Non piu mesta...

    anyway, I <3 ELINA

  • I love her deep notes!!!

  • she doesn't have a microphone that i can see. How can the audience hear her?

  • @cmcorn90 The mic is 5 feet in front of her.

  • @Whistlejocket You wrote "The mic is 5 feet in front of her". I just found out! It's a miracle of electronic communication. EVERY video you see and hear on You Tube involved a microphone. Were you thinking that the physical audience out in front of her were hearing mic'd sound? If so... why did you think that?

  • @MrHbc3 I only thought it was to pick up her voice etc. Nothing about the audience.

  • @cmcorn90 you must have not seen an opera performed live. Especially sung by someone of her caliber, these arias can fill up an entire auditorium without using a microphone.

  • @cmcorn90 Because a good opera singer can easily fill a concert hall without a mic in sight!

  • @rachelinajolie but that's not an opera hall, that's a TV set, or am I wrong? xD

  • Brava!!!! hermosa voz

  • She's amazing!!!

  • Wow, her voice is beautiful!!!

  • WOW, WOW, WOW. I was very sad when we lost Maria Callas (once in a lifetime voice) but now I thank God because I found your videos and I adore them, you have a pure, beautiful, incredible voice. Thank you for sharing your WOW voice with us.

  • too sultry for this aria. Nice voice, but the intepretation is a little cheesy. It needs more elegance and class. She's singing it like it's Carmen.

  • @MegaPrincessbear Exactly! You put it just right.

  • I do like Elina Garanca, for instance love her as Carmen, but not my favorite for this aria. It's not bad but I like Joyce Di Donato better and Teresa Berganza was the ULTIMATE Rosina in my opinion. Unfortunately the elegant phrasing, agility, and impeccable legato of Bel Canto has very nearly disappeared.

  • Oh my goodness! She is such a delight. A rich mezzo bottom and a shimmering soprano top. Can't wait to see her live!

lijkt op hun gebruikelijke play back

  • bellissima voce !!! e non solo

  • My, what a girl, marvelous voice, young, pretty - a dream!!

  • What a singer. I'm only new to opera but the way she incorporates those trills and rolled Rs into her singing is just so -- wonderfully teasing and petulant and interesting. She brings life and direction to a standing aria, which is pretty damn wonderful.

  • Very nice. She brings something of her own to the piece.

  • Amazing!

  • I find it mind-boggling that ANYONE could dislike this woman. If she were JUST drop-dead gorgeous, that would, otherwise, be sufficient to guarantee her celebrity status. But, then, SHE OPENS HER MOUTH. Rarely have I heard someone with the diaphragm this woman has; plus, she doesn't just sing a song---she ATTACKS it. By the way, FYI, meprew2: a female conductor is a "Maestra."

  • There's nothing this diva can't sing expertly--and the face! Brava.

  • Absolutely Amazing! Sad to see so many haters... maybe they're just mad they can't do it- they can't open their mouths and sound like that, so they open their mouths only to spit out obscene mementos of their own jealousy. Please spare us the uneducated banter, and get a life doing something you are talented at: taking people's orders. Brava Ms. Garanca!!!!

  • she is amazing!!! i loved her!

  • in the original mezzo- soprano version= in E ( not in F)

  • MAGNIFIQUE !!!!

  • boring

  • i love her da capo!

  • her scale at 2:45 is OFF THE HOOK!!! SHE IS A MONSTER!

  • @mozartibnkhajjam

    ce n'est pas important

    puisqu'Elina chante divinement bien

  • @mozartibnkhajjam it was written for a mezzo!

  • Comment removed

  • @mozartibnkhajjam

You are correct. It was written for a singer.

  • @mozartibnkhajjam Of couse it was!

  • @mozartibnkhajjam of course it was!

  • @cwecub It wasn't written for a coloratura, she's actually singing it in the original key. If you want to hear another mezzo who does "hit the high notes" listen to Joyce DiDonato

  • Frightening, it's like a drug I need her every night !!!!!!

  • @JLP078 : Spot on, JLP. Blessed are we to have Joyce Di..Anna Netrebko, Peters, and others [some now on film only]. Thanks, too, to TECHTROM

  • Gee, a real full-blooded mezzo-soprano and a delightful and musical one at that! Brava, Elina! (How do you pronounce the "c" in her last name, by the way? Is it like Ga-ran-sha or Garanssa?)

  • @sillyboydeux Ga-ran-cha

  • I love that a woman's conducting the orchestra :)

  • @meprew2 Have you ever heard of Jane Glover? She is a wonderful female conductor. I've had the pleasure of sitting right next to her at the Chicago opera conducting Mozart's Abduction from the Seraglio. It was amazing. She also wrote a great book called "Mozart's Women." Check her out! I admire her very much. :)

  • @meprew2 -- uhu, want more? watch?v=iTZUQSziCZI

  • Answer to minasgekos I have carefully listened and it is a recording error !!!!

  • wow. ty for posting. wow.

  • Thanks Techtrom for giving us the oportunity to hear such magnificent singer. And thanks to you Claudia for ending it to me! I t is on its way to a friend who I know will love this as much as I do.

  • I love her so much and her voice is very strong and thick...one of the best mezzo-soprano singer in the world, in the 21th century:-))

  • is it normal that she needs to recover her breath 2 times from 3:35 to 3:40?

  • Brava! I wish she felt it just a little more.

  • She is perfect..it´s all i can say about her!!!...voice, vocal technic, stage presence, style, elegance, music knoledgement, .....!!! I would like to enjoy her performances in the theatre or concert halls, apart from here in youtube!!! It must be amazing!!!!

TECHTROM...thank´s so much for the video!!!!!!

    pursempre godibilissimo.brava!

  • maravillosa!!!!

  • She's beautiful.

  • Too heavy!!! Everyone who wants to applod her, yes, she is better compare to Netrebko; but this is Rossini, and this is Belcanto. You can not sing it so heavy. Listen to Anna Moffo, only Moffo did it perfect as Rossini wrote it to the score.

  • @BelCantoV

  • @BelCantoV But Moffo was a soprano. Rossini transposed the music for a soprano to sing the role of Rosina; so naturally, Moffo's voice is lighter. So to say that Garanca is not singing according to the score would seem like a misleading statement.

  • Es que yo la amo!!!

  • the orchestra could go more "alltogether" in the beginning pizzicato....

    she is very good imho

  • That top B is stunning.

  • I enjoyed this remarkable singer for the first time in the Met performance of Carmen, to me she is the most authentic and convincing Carmen I have ever seen.

  • @seattleladt I agree with you. I saw the Met production in a cinema in Hong Kong today. It brought tears in my eyes. A very moving interpretation of the darkness of Carmen, and her courage in the dying scene. She has brought Carmen into another dimension. Besides, she is really beautiful.h

  • @seattleladt I agree! I saw her in the same production and I've been impressed ever since

  • who is the maestro?

  • She knows that is not sufficient to "act" what one supposes to be the meaning of this Aria.

  • She knows that the difference between this masterwork and other common pieces of that time, resides hidden in the mazes of harmonies, phrases, rhythms, proportions, counterpoints that Rossini wrote. She goes deep in this labyrinth of illusion called music and finds the Ariadne's thread necessary to reconstruct the image of a Rosina that stands out in a prodigious portrait.

  • So the audience, as Alban Berg said for Wozzeck, doesn't need to know this hidden and complex plot that Gioacchino Rossini knew how to elaborate, and Elina knows how to extricate. The public is now concentrated only on the human subtlety of this funny and tender woman called Rosina. For me, this is the magic of art and Elina Garanca is one of the greates and most refined singers ever.

  • maria callas version is the best. This lady evaded the hi notes.

    quoi divine

    on lui pardonne tout

  • A younger Elina. When was this? Younger or older, she's stunning. The orchestra is very good no doubt thanks to the interesting conductress. Who is she? Too bad there was little focus on her.

ME ENCANTA!!!

  • I saw her in the Carmen from the Met. She was amazing!

  • What an amazing singer. One of the very best! Terrific flesibility and agility!

  • I recommed you to see also the stunning vocal interpretation of this aria by coloratura soprano PETYA IVANOVA

  • In jeder Beziehung.. Sie hat einfach Klasse *****

  • This song seems to be an obligatory song to sing for mezzos. I´ve listen to a lot of singers doing this one. I though she was not going to add anything new, but she does. Probably becouse of the great "personality"of her voice. Wonderfull performance. Thanks for uploading

  • I love her facial expressions. not to mention that amazing singing.

  • Beatiful, great and elegant voice and mezzo actress!!

  • Wow !! Elina Garanca !! Splendid, amazing voice. The way she slows it down from 2:45 to 2:52...then picks it up again wow!! Wonderful stuff right there...she does that in Carmen's Habanera as well...She's the best !!!

  • Bravo bravo

  • Merci, Despina !

Votre commentaire me touche beaucoup...

    :-))))

  • she is amazing and her voice is great

  • Good jod Elina :)

I'd love to hear her sing rossina live :)

  • @opergirlify... Yep! Me too :) Very beautiful voice, and so pleasant to hear a mezzo di it in E. It's a real shame there just isn't enough operatic soprano arie out there that theyfrequently sing this transposed up, eh?

  • Yah:)

  • I love her "ma!!" shortly after 2:45!

  • Terrific! Can anyone tell me who is the conductor (conductress?). Thanks!

  • @Daisy3040 i know (finally! hehe) her name is Keri-Lynn Wilson and she is canadian. . . . though i think by know you already most know who she is =/ . . . :D

  • In my opinion Garanca sings very well bell canto. But her voice is not for bell canto... I prefer DiDonato. I love Garanca, but I love her in Carmen not in Il Barbiere! Her voice was not made to sing bell canto.

  • What an annoying host, unbearable. I'd refuse to sing if something like that was introducing me.

  • Also see: "Wenarto hosts Julio Perez singing Rossini"

  • ugh she's so phenomenal!!!

  • Una voce poco fa + Elina Garanca = one of the "all time best" of music

  • a female conductor!? what's her name! So nice to see!

  • beautiful high Bs, there are some videos of her where theyre not so pleasing, with a slower wobbly vibrato.

  • Introduction i Crazy Hair - Crazy Guy!!!!!!!

The rest is pretty brilliant too.

  • Wow!!

  • Elina's facial expressions while singing this aria are fabulous!! She is so gorgeous! I am completely smitten with her!!!

  • This lovely interpretation gives me an ardent desire to be Count Almaviva !!!

    Vàdoro, Diva !!!

  • My fav part :50 is absolutely stunning! her voice is very radient but I wish she wouldn't sing things that make her uncomfortable. She will be retiring Rossini soon for the sake of us all.

  • Here is my problem with Garanca. She has a great mezzo voice with no doubt but she's just so stoic sometimes. She doesn't convey emotion in her singing or if she does, she obviously doesn't do it right. This sweet, lovely aria sounds flat like cardboard in this rendition. She doesn't really interpret music.

  • I really have to diagree. While I too do not love her singing 'una voce poco fa' I saw her play Carmen in London last night and she was absolutely sensational, in both her singing and acting. I'd highly recommend going to see her in this role. Magical!

  • Could be her calm Nordic temper, so , sorry, no cure for that. 8D

  • @SwineNahNah Isn't she Slavic? Anyway I understand what you mean by that.

  • I still wonder how poor the knowledge of history and geography of many people is.

I'll be glad to improve yours, Tonyhan. So- Elina is a Latvian. Latvia is a country located in Nothern Europe. Latvians are not Slavic (Russian, Polish,Ukrianian, Czech, Bulgarian etc. are Slavic), nor are Latvians Germanic or whatever. Latvians are Baltic. And actually we like to think we are kindred nations with Scandinavians, at least geographically, so it is true about a Nordic temper.

    Have a nice day! :)

  • @sycamoretree111 I didn't know that. Thanks.

  • @sycamoretree111

Thank you for the details on the Latvians. I had not known their relationship to other Europeans. May I assume that Elina is a perfect example of a Latvian? She seems perfect regardless I suppose.. I love how she presents herself and song. I wish I could afford the trip to the Met in January to be there for Carmen.

  • @NZdodobird I don't know where you are but are you unable to get to any of the cinemas showing the production live in HD ? I shall be there on Saturday - though in France ! A lot cheaper than having to go to NY for it and you get so much more than the theatre audience. It's worth looking for a venue near to you.

  • @suzypuss

Hey, thanks for the idea. My sister got such tickets to see an event at the MET here in Portland and I hadn't thought about that myself.

    Thank you.

  • @sycamoretree111

Some nations do not learn international geography, which is a pity. I think we were lucky to learn:D

  • No, she's not, she's Latvian, like me. 8D

  • She's good - very good

SHame its a short version - would like to hear more...

  • i love that guys hair.

  • This is something!

    Kruto

  • Increible!

  • bravissima!!!!

  • Did she just make a huge cut in the recit? THat's weird... maybe there were length issues?

  • wow! one month ago i commented that i didnt like this and that i wud give just 1* because she skipped the best coloratura part but....to heck! her voice is so gorgeous! almost as gorgeous as her face! lolololol

  • She seems to have a full collection of qualities a good mezzo needs, wonderful performance.

  • Who's the conductor here. I saw her conduct Tosca in Verona. She's American.

  • She us actually Latvian from Riga.
