of the few albums Japan released this is my favourite, in my opinion it set the scene for what was to follow musically from other artists in the early 80's. Although for me know one quite matched up to Japan and there innovative style. In particular Mick Karns fantastic fretless bass playing. Sadly missed
@801liveable Ferry started something that Sylvian clearly took further in his own way, but to say that it is simply emulation is merely illustrating how little of Japan's discography you have listened to.
@ginobisogni1 How much of Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music's discography have YOU listened too my friend? Maybe you should look in the mirror and see. Things might be a bit clearer..
@Bergysot This band another obvious chip off the old Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music block.Ferry's influence is truly amazing at least in style and music.Although not making a big mark in America Roxy Music after the Beatles the second most influential band to come out of Great Brittain. Duran Duran, Talking Heads, Radiohead, Be Bop De Lux, Ultravox, Bowie(in the 80's), Spandau Ballet, Human League, Depeche Mode, ABC, The Cars, Eurythmics. Can't forget Eno's influence too.Quite a statement. WOW!
Just read Mick Karn's obituary in the Guardian, his bass playing was just amazing to say nothing of his sax solo's on various Japan tracks, a truly gifted musician. I came out of the punk scene and discovered Japan in their glam stage, could see that there was something different about them, that rhythm section of Jansen and Karn was just so tight. Great musicians all, but for me Karn made the difference with his fretless bass sound. A bit gutted about his passing i must admit.
@carlb1501 Say no more come out of the punk a little bit love Japan from the beginning. Its like blood it goes everywhere.Get the swing for everybody.
dig Barbieri's mauve v-neck. Dig Jansen's sleeveless black number. Dig the lighting with the big shadows on the wall inside circles. Dig Sylvian's shades. Dig Karn's upright collar and tie. LOVE IT!

Is Barbieri wearing a Slazenger? At my school in east London they were the thing sometime in '82 after Fred Perry v-necks and before Pringles
