I am an Indian. I watched Mind your language as a child. In no way did I find it to be racist. Its a series where they show how people of different backgrounds are still people. Plus does anyone remember how the 'white english' character sidney was shown? His character had the worst qualities.

Very fair point made via vid. If its any consolation, this was yesterday's trend. The previous generation with their foreigners are funny music hall attitudes have given way to respect and acceptance of hardworking, fair minded people. I'm US and the Brits love tossing bricks at us, and we are just as guilty...that 4 o'clock all stops for a cup of tea crap. People change; laugh at what they used to think, not what they believe these days.

I am an Indian. I watched Mind your language as a child. In no way did I find it to be racist. Its a series where they show how people of different backgrounds are still people. It may do some stereotypes but anyone with a sense of humor will find it comical. Some of the themes like sikh and muslim conflict might not be accepted now (we all know why) but they were back then. Plus does anyone remember how the 'white english' character sidney was shown? His character had the worst qualities.

I am an Indian, and I find it deeply offensive to call It Ain't Half Hot Mum as racist. It's a satire, and it mocks everyone especially British. This programme is cleverly cut off clips that makes it looks racist.

What I find hard to accept is that these "intellectuals" are treated as an authority on anything. They are NOT intelligent--a mark of intelligence is the ability to produce keen insights onto matters--but all they ever say is the same old "stereotypes bad, society blah blah blah" self-righteous bullshit. If they want to do valuable work, they should write sociology on how they run their class rooms, how they try to intimidate dissenting views, etc.

Most racism in the UK is between blacks/Asians and other ethnic groups. Very few English people are racist but we do have a tradition of taking the piss out of each other. Trouble is that most immigrants are too touchy and have a huge chip on their shoulders. No sense of humour, and now we're not allowed to tell a joke in case some poor sensitive soul goes crying to a race relations lawyer. Fuck 'em I say.

Holding up a COMEDY as a basis for racism on TV is ridiculous. Did no-one ever stop to think that it was merely a parody of the bias in such situations?
Racism is an important issue, but these self-appointed 'moral guardians' make me sick. I have always said that political correctness creates problems where they were none, and exacerbates existing ones by adding layers of ambiguity and mistrust. Laughing at each other is the way to overcome such things, not blaming.
