You threw me Jose. I thought the voice was back, and how did you do it. More experienced viewers enlightened me. You have given me pleasure in the past, but I think it is time to retire.
@Be00Cool: What are you talking about???? You made the same silly comment at another video of the J.C. Gala in Leipzing. How can you not know he's singing live. You don't have an ear for music at all. Besides, it's his own show for Leukemia Foundation, how could he or any other artist at the Gala, for that matter, sing play-back? And if you don't understand English get a translator and shut up!
Well I have had the chance to watch him live without any microphones at the Royal Opera House Muscat 6 days ago. He has sung this song. It wasn't the original key most probably. But it sounded PERFECT!!!
Music should be more about the emotions than the pitch or high notes... He is still a great singer...
@TheYoungTenor100 I grew up with Carreras, love the man, that is 1976 Tosca recording conducted by Colin Davis, Carreras hasn't sounded like that since the 70's. And if you watch him alot you can see, expecially now, the type of strain he shows in his body when he is actually singing.
@BroadwayG Sorry friend, this is a hoax lip-synch, the whole thing. It is from the 1976 Colin Davis conducted Tosca, Carreras hasn't sounded like this since the 80's. The reason there even is a Baritone is because it is a lip synch, otherwise there would never be a sacristian in a concert. There is no need for him. The orchestra is not playing.
@hightenor123 :( Why a singer of his talent and career do this? If one's gift is gone, thank God, if you will, for the time you had it, and retire gracefully. Easy for me to say, but I never attained fame, so I do not know how hard it is to leave the live opium behind and sit down. Really sad about this. Like seeing Joe Louis on the canvas with his bald pate facing the camera. Over is over.
why would he do this? If I was him and knew I was too old to sing this stuff, I'd stop singing and be remembered for what I was....not try and be something I'm not....I love him and all....but....its sad he'd agree to this :(
This is a lip-synched rendition from a 1976 recording of Tosca with Caballe. I have played it 1000 times and have worn it out. He was one of the best with honey kissed vocal cords. Sad indeed that he felt he needed to do this. Money must have been to good to pass up?
I think he would have been better off singing one of the songs he can still sing with ease. This is disappointing. Jose, you know better than that! <:(
I really can't understand this. If he can't sing Recondita Armonia anymore, there are at least 100 songs still can be sung. Why did he do this? Is there any special reason?
I can´t believe a tenor with such a history could be able to lip sync! When I saw it was a 2010 recording I was expecting to listen to him in a lower tone. This is one more reason why I admire Domingo. He is still on opera stage, but accepting roles that fit his actual limitations, like in the recent Met´s Ifigenia in Tauris.
strange indeed...he shouldn´t have done this...if it is a hommage to himself , then just show a film or whatever...lip-sync in live performance is not right...especially a recording from the 70´s or early 80´s when he was in great shape...pity he accepted to do this.
Yes, it is playback. This is definitely Carreras in the 1970s. Moreover. there is no Sacristan.... so it is obvious. This together with the lipsynching of late Luciano Pavarotti at one concert (he did mention that in his book) is really outrageous.
Come on, this pays no respect to Jose, isn't it better to sit with him and watch or listen to one of his prime recordings? Or sing something else less demanding and still very suitable to the current voice possibilities?
Yes why did he lip-sync,he could have sung something else, everyone knows he can't sing like he did years ago,he still has a wonderful voice anyway..............
@mucky123456 Opera arias are difficult for him now. His voice is not what it used to be. He could've sung something he is still able to sing, such as a Neapolitan song.
@mucky123456 Why does he have to lip sync? Because his voice was done 15 years ago.... he hasn't had any high notes for at least that time. This is a commercial recording he made in the 70's when he could still sing.
I think Jose is still in great shape, he has become more handsome with age, and his voice much more beautiful, stronger quality.

I'm so disappointed...Why did it with lip-sync? For money???Or he want to prove that he still has a powerful voice or high notes?

Lip-sync? I suppose the baritone in the back is lip-syncing too, and the orchestra? When you lip-sync you stand there alone with no orchestra, etc.
