  • I would say a video game movie where the material from the video game was referenced in the movie in an intelligent way was Mortal Kombat. They didn't get everything right, however most of it was pretty good. I can't defend the sequels though and won't even try

  • @robinsl27 I loved the first Mortal Kombat. I dragged my girlfriend at the time to see it in the theater twice. The second one was just awful. If you can find it, Conquest is very entertaining. It's the Mortal Kombat live action TV show from the 90s. It has a very young Kristanna Loken and some good fight sequences. I was bummed it only got one season.

  • 12:09 always thought that was weird

17:46 like all of Congress lol

great review man. happy to see someone else likes this film. I always used to play the games as a kid, and it never bothered me how this film turned out. People complain about it being unfaithful to the games, but if I remember right the games only had a loose story at the time (and in it's own way the games followed that story).

  • @marioradium2 Exactly. I think it's just one of those movies that people hate by default without even seeing it.

The Mario Bros games up to that point had no real story. It was Princess gets kidnapped, Mario goes and saves her. They did go a little nuts with the look of it but at least they tried to do something different. If it was a kids movie that was all castles and so forth it would have just been bad and then forgotten.

  • @trachenburg probably would have been compared to a lot of the disney films

  • @marioradium2 Yep.

  • A sequel that will never be? Frigde brilliance: the series IS the sequel.

  • @survivalofone The Super Mario Bros Super Show?

  • @trachenburg NO. That was just a shameless money grab. I mean the SERIES, as in all the various adventures in the games.

  • @survivalofone ohhhhhh I gotcha. Yeah, the later games did seem to be influenced by the movie, even if they don't want to admit it.

  • I'm so glad I've finally found a positive review of this film! I'm 28 now & was a big Mario and Nintendo fan back in the day. I remember going to the cinema to watch this, very excited, and I wasn't disappointed! I loved it and the fact it was very different from the computer game didn't bother me at all. I found it much more fun trying to find all the Mario references without them being very obvious and the film had a very Mad Max feel about it with its crazy characters and chaotic world.

  • @hauser82 Thanks! I still don't understand all the hate for this movie. It was creative when it could have just been a colorful, bad kids movie that would have most likely been forgotten. I liked the dark direction they went with and think this movie should be looked at as a classic and not a failure.

  • I will keep watching this movie. There is so much to notice. Like, why the cars run on electricity. No fossil fuel!

  • @fairday2 That's a great point!

    Thanks for the sub!

  • I've always loved this movie. As a kid, I thought it was canon! Great review, by the way.

  • @Seantendo Thanks! I'm really glad to know there are others out there that still love this movie.

  • I always did liked this movie but haven't seen it in a long time. Thanks for putting it in a positive light and thanks for sharing all of the references to the game that I've never noticed before.

  • @xcrossx Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

The movie gets so much hate and I wanted it to be seen from a positive perspective for a change. There is even more information, I just didn't have the time to fit it all in.
