  • I was at this game... Rangers blew them out and there were a couple of good fights in the 3rd period... too bad you couldn't post the whole game... great memories though

  • Billy Smith is my favourite player from this era so this is really nice to see - even though he got killed in this game. I hope things continue to improve steadily for the Islanders. Everything about the franchise has been suffering for so long from the arena down to their uniforms and they've finally done the right thing in respect to that.

  • @nkmcfrln I think the islanders going back to their original uniforms was the only thing so far have done right. Banning Bloggers, Their own Announcers caught on air saying how boring they are, the 14 game losing streak, no radio coverage, and the injuries. this team needs a complete overhaul of infrastructure,

  • @MomotheOld You're right about everything. It really sucks for the fans of the Islanders. They have the worst team and the worst arena. They would show up and fill a new one if the team was good. I grew up a Habs fan until Keenan stole Chelios, so then I was a Hawks fan for a while. Now I'm just a fan of hockey. I love watching the Rangers play at MSG. I think the fans are great (they know how to cheer) and it would be twice as great if they had a good team to play against in Long Island.

  • @nkmcfrln always glad to hear from a hockey fan. I love the game and I follow it religiously not just The rangers. I am always torn on whether I want the islanders to be competitive for rivalry reasons or just plain suck because they are an embarrassment

I'm glad your allegiance to Chelios payed off. He turned out to be one of the all time greats at the position..

  • I WAS IN THE ARMY BACK THEN IN HAWAII LIKE TO WATCH THESE ALL VIDEO I MISSED THANKS A LOT.

  • @BANDIT62 Bandit it's my pleasure to put these video's up here so we can all enjoy the good times we had being ranger fans while the team is sub par at present. Things will get better though.

  • Brings back so memories, Sad now the Big Whistle is no longer with us, Miss them Both, I was a Isle fan but loved this TV Crew, I remember when Chadwick was on Radio with Marv Albert.

  • @nutballgazette wow nutball I know Bill was teamed with Marv but never heard them together. Emile Francis told me he was responsible for getting "The Big Whistle" the job. Like everything Rangers it was either Emile Francis or John Halligan who really made the Rangers everything they are,

  • Blueshirts spanked the Isles in this one 9-3...love to see more of the Rangers goals! Thanks for the post!

  • @ekimfloom no problem eklim glad you liked it

  • Never be another rivalry like this....thaks so much for posting!

  • i gotta agree with all the sentiments here, He was an important part of most of the over 40's Ranger fans memory banks.

Sad day for sure. I got an email from his grandson thanking me for SHOW # 94 on my website. Now that he and Jim are both gone it feels like a part of my Hockey childhood is gone.

  • You couldn't have said it better. This brings back such great memories. I loved Bill and Jim and their broadcasts were a large part of my childhood and it sounds like I am not alone in that sentiment. It was always fun listening to Bill - he made the game exciting and entertaining. If every NHL broadcast team had a Bill Chadwick today, hockey would be in a lot better shape.

Sad to see another icon gone but when I think of him, I'll always have a smile on my face. R.I.P. Big Whistle.

  • RIP.......Bill Chadwick just died the other day ............94 years old!

  • Jim Gordon & Bill Chadwick & Channel 9 - my chlldhood

    RIP

  • Mine too> I loved these guys together I hope the rangers organization puts together something for him. I am so gratful for these posts THANKS FOR THE FOND MEMORIES. THE BIG WHISTLE THE BEST

  • RIP Bill . "The Rangers are skating in sand"","Gene Carr couldn't put the puck in the ocean if he was standing at the end of a dock. " and of course "SHOOT THE PUCK BARRY"

  • What a long great life he had!! Major part of my childhood was with Bill well I was a Sr in HS for this game! RIP Bill.... Loved Bill and in the end he was soooo funny during games. Not sure he ment to be!! Great American Hockey hero!

  • Was this before Potvin hit the Swede and the Potvin Sucks chant?

  • No. That hit was in 1979 this was two years after. They are boong Potvin every time he touched the puck

  • Sad Day - Big Whistle died today...

  • One game, Whistle & Jim Gordon were discussing game on camera, but audio & picture were not in synch. So Gordon's voice was coming from Chadwick & Chadwick's from Gordon. Friends & I were laughing, tears coming out of our eyes. Joints helped.

  • Jim Gordon and the big whistle those were some great memories

  • The Big Whistle will certainly be missed by hardcores like me and hopefully up and coming Blueshirt fans everywhere. He was passionate about hockey and the Rangers but the only thing I wish he kept his mouth shut for was when the Rangers got a power play and he'd be yelling 'shoot the puck Barry' in deference to Barry Beck. Now don't get me wrong, I liked Chadwick as an announcer and Beck as a fierce defensemen but that line killed us at the Nassau Mausoleum for a good 2-3 years...

  • Great stuff, hockey actually MATTERED in this town back then, every Ranger/Isle game was a HUGE event, hockey actually got the back pages in these days.

  • Hammer you got that right.. I miss those days it was like playoffs every time they played. The back pages yes.. you are indeed right my friend the games were events not just shells of their former selves like they are now

  • As a Ranger fan those playoff losses to the Isles in 81, 82, 83, 84 were more devastating each time, this rivalry was an absolute EPIC in the 70's and 80's, a bit in the 90's but is now dead. Too bad.

  • I would help if the Islanders held up their part of the bargain and were actually good. Hockey still matters - the fishsticks don't

  • nice one Mom..

i went to this game..great memories! always remember a guy with a professional Rangers jersey on..walking around MSG that night with "Potin Eats Shit' instead of a name on the back of the jersey!!

i recently found this game through a trader

wish/hope its good a quality like the first few minutes you have here..thanks

  • Good to see more old time footage.

  • Pack your bags Jim, we're going to LA!!

  • EJ was awesome! I miss him and the players from that team.

  • Hockey was so much better back then.

  • Mna the memories came rushing back I got chills hearing that goal call !!
