Professor Shimazono offers us deep view of Japanese New Religious Movements and the new age in Japan. Disregard the negative comments below, if you are interested in a nuanced view of modernity and religious innovation in Japan, this interview is worth watching.
Well...professor Shimazono had been studying in Japanese, and speaking Japanese through his whole life ...So he couldn't speak English well....That is understandable...But if so,he shouldn't have come to this conversation....It is a pain to watch this video....
@WaterSeesWater He speaks English better than many Americans I've come into contact with. We are all different and that's what brings interest to life. Kreisler himself drawls and strings things out a lot. The only thing that is a pain is your commentary. Don't be afraid to post your Japanese video. Nihongo ha fukuzatsu! Widzę, że nie jesteś cierpliwą osobę, ale cierpliwość jest cnotą. Tokoro de, Nihongo ga hanashimasu ka??
I generally like the interviews Harry Kreisler conducts for "Conversations with History," but I feel this one is left too un-moderated. Professor Shimazona is mild-mannered person, and he takes a long time to formulate his answers (and that is no problem in itself), but some stronger facilitation from Kreisler would help erase the lulls in the interview. Maybe I am just used to watching Charlie Rose.
@writersblock26 The Japanese naturally pause, it's just their way. Just be thankful he didn't suck air in through his teeth. They do that when they are thinking. I taught many Japanese students so I am well placed to say. Try speaking Japanese and see how far you get. Ganbatte yo! Nihon no hatsuon ha chotto muzukashii dayo!
People everywhere are asking the questions; "What is the purpose of life?" and "Why are we here?" You might be amazed to learn, that Islam is providing clear and concise answers for these questions.
