boardskins - nope, never had to pay to see Kiss, they worked the bar for free, and we would have been a lot happier with some of the other bands that played there . . . I did get to see the MC5 play, didn't get better than that!
Detroit seemed to be a hot-bed for freak out, jam act such as MC5, Iggy and the Stooges and Funkadelic, sometimes playing on the same bill, a mind blower.
@jody808 The only things in common Funkadelic and the MC5 have are crazyness, awesome lives, awesome musicians, drug-fueled rock n roll, huge influence and belonging to Detroit !
So why do MC5 fans hate kiss so much. I know they suck, but you don't get all music videos filled with comments pointing it out, what's the particular connection with MC5?
@fosbury68 Hendrix and the MC5 shared several bills and may actually have played a a show at Pioneer High School in A2 ( I saw a Grande card for this once). I know they hung out at Trans Love Energies and Mike Davis used to have a chair Jimi sat in from back in the day. Maybe he still has it..
I don't feel strongly for KISS or MC5, but if it's a contest of who is the better band, well, let's just say if there was to be a fight over who rocked harder my money is on the army.
I fuckin hate KISS.Gene Simmons would sell his own kids for some cash, all he gives a shit about is makin money not music.Wayne Kramer thats a cool ass dude he is as real as it gets
@85mariapatricia Then why are you watching this, jackass? Go back to Lady GaGa or Justin Bieber or what ever shit that passes for music today. This is ROCK AND ROLL, fool.
@daleahill No no no, it's a simple lack of proper punctuation.
What he means is that the "lucky" belongs to you. He then goes on to detail his efforts with respect to not defecating in your face. I believe he also implies that you own a "stupid cunt", whatever that may be. And then from what I can tell, he begins drooling on himself. That's really the only way I can interpret that last sentence.

NISM!
@associate39 You must of never seen Gene Simmons on a interview he spends 3/4 of it pitchin shit and the other 1/4 how he thinks he can fuck any woman in the world
@leitros Back in the day, the concerts were about the music. Yes, we were stoned out of our minds, but we did not get up and jump around like a bunch of dorks at a REO Speedwagon concert. The MC5 was all attitude. Think about it, this song came out in 1968. The idea of starting a song with M-F'er!!!! was something no band up to then would ever have dreamed of doing.
@motorcityquig Oh yeah! How about Country Joe singing Fixin' to Die at Woodstock. Anyway, I agree it was a great time. The Grande Ballroom, Detroit should be preserved as a national treasure.
@leitros Punk it ain't...your fuggin right on that son....these boys had REAL soul and could actually play there instruments. They truly raged against the machine...punk wore rage like a costume...posers!! Try spitting on one of these guys and see what happens! You'll get a Marshall stack rammed up yer azz! The audience is mesmerized and understand the show is on stage...not in the audience.
Some MC5 trivia for you. My brother grew up with these guys and they were originally called the Mt. Clemens 5 (Mt. Clemens was the city they lived in) and later it rolled into the Motor City 5.
way ahead of their time, maybe too far ahead. Protoheavy metal I guess. Whatever they are almost totally unknown and among the best and most original of all. Most of all the MC5 rocked!
There is something very different about their sound. Sonic Smith used a Mosrite guitar, and you can hear the 'chunkiness' of that brand of ax. Wayne Kramer is using a top-of-line Epiphone (a cheaper Gibson product). I think this is a key to the sound that makes this song unlike any other.
@teden20 actually in this performance, wayne kramer is using an ampeg ada-6. and sonic is using a rickenbaker 330. in a lot of performances, yes kramer is playing an old epiphone wilshire, which epiphone actually just re-issued. granted it's with a full of stop tail bridge, not with the old weird tremolo systems they used, and i've never seen sonic using a mosrite. always a rickenbacker.
Had the 8 track in my car .They were so talented and energetic .40 years later and they still sound great.Lets see if these losers like Nickleback can do that.
@omghitbycar --This is what Ann Arbor and Detroit was all about--Now, 40 years later, with all of us spread across the universe, y'all are finally gettin' it--THANKS!!!
@MrGopherhead You wouldn't be able to walk your pantywaist white bread ass any where south of eight mile. Memphis stole black music just like every other "home" of rock, what a joke. "A one for the money, a two for the.." Just didn't cut it in motown. I wouldn't want to be ANYONE from Memphis in 1970 and play after these guys...Crickets..Stay with YOUR PASSION...... CHEMTRAILS.
@MrGopherhead Yeah been playing for over 25 years and have learned nothing.Your a total faggot jag off and you know it.Now go back under your rock you little...Gopher. Time to go Back to being a "Mechanic" and online 24/7 praying for a life.

I think this is a key to the sound that makes this song unlike any other.
teden20 1 year ago
@teden20 actually in this performance, wayne kramer is using an ampeg ada-6. and sonic is using a rickenbaker 330. in a lot of performances, yes kramer is playing an old epiphone wilshire, which epiphone actually just re-issued. granted it's with a full of stop tail bridge, not with the old weird tremolo systems they used, and i've never seen sonic using a mosrite. always a rickenbacker.

My mom saw them a year or so later, but I went to daycare at Wayne State University, where she went to school. So this is awesome.

Kiss is from New York, not Detroit. They never claimed to be from Detroit. They just wrote a song about the city.

CHEMTRAILS.
