  • Holy FUCK, I'd never seen this live cut. I've been introducing the one & only MC-5 to a younger generation with no clue as to what they did to the entire movement of Rock-N-Roll. This proves the point as to how much they kicked ass & so far ahead of their time. Awesome RIP Rob Tinner

  • @LBCOOLB The Beat Club footage is good to. If only they had video not just audio clips of the Saginaw Civic concert. That may just be the best concert from the Post-Sinclair era.

  • tyner's move at about 1:28 cracks me up every time. this band towers above all others, obviously...

  • i cant name any Kiss songs... all i know is they have a longed tounged guy

  • look at all the hair in the audience.

  • Did anyone else just notice how the whole crowd suddenly got up and freaked out at the same time?! That is the power of the MC5!

  • happy birthday rob! man, everyone is gone but wayne! miss those great old days at the grande ballroom!

  • KICK OUT THE JAMS MOTHA FUCKA!! best part of the song

  • These guys were one of the bands to start metal

  • @tonymtlwpg Dubious achievement of the year award.

  • Too bad they bleeped the start. At the time that was the epitome of rebellion.

  • That gaiter play GIZZED IN HIS PANTS!!

  • Yessss!!!

  • Happy holidays to all ! Check out my nephew Tommy on guitar ! 16 years old . He's been playing for seven years now ! Go to my channel . Thanks ! bluesharp59

  • Remember Kick off the Jams!!!??? because I dont.

it isn't bad tho for real.. I could roll one to that I get it

  • That guy sounds like a drunk, redneck dude at the beginning.

  • Go

  • KICK OUT THE JAMS MOTHAFUCKA!!

  • Fuck now I have to go look for @TheRalphus666 's comment.

  • Lmao at your user name

  • HEY! Check this out to all the people who have Apple electronics. I know how to get free $10 itunes gift card. This really works first you have to go and download the free app called "App Trailers" and then put the code "luffy96" and if your lucky you will receive $10 on your itunes account. But this only works ONCE! Come on people what do you got to lose??

  • Wellll this isss pretty cool :D

  • Ahh the good Ol days... unfortunately i was born in 1993 and i hate every single person born in my generation. The girls are all whores and the music is all computerized shit.

  • @REBELson2299

    What's wrong with whores?

  • @REBELson2299 ..and the guys are douches who wont do anything unless they're bribed with sex or boobs. (and I'm saying this as a male born in 1993.

  • @REBELson2299

I wouldn't say that the music is all shit. There are some damn good new bands out there if you look hard enough.

  • @REBELson2299 well, dubstep is nice

  • @REBELson2299 but classical is boss

  • @REBELson2299 - Doesn't matter what year you were born in. There is plenty of good music around now a days as well. You just have to take the time to look for it. That's always been the case.

  • @REBELson2299 Damn dude, you pretty much summed it up in a couple sentences! I was born in '63 and still feel like I was born a little too late. 93? I sympathize. At least you can listen to all this cool old shit on utube. Glad to see there's some teens out there who dont have their head up their ass when it comes to good taste in music.

  • Tricky , but i finaly managed to masturbate to this.

  • They didn't have to wear meat dresses to get attention.

  • bitch

  • Dear Justin Beiber, you will never, ever be this cool.

  • The Black Keys sent me here.

  • @FernandoDANTE black keys shouldnt be mentioned here

  • Hey

  • Yer kidding?!? You can't say Mutherfucker on YouTube??

  • @searayus1 no you can, but in 1970 on Detroit Tube Works (the show this is from) you couldn't

  • Motor City Mayhem. MC5 was an awesome band. Take your pick what came out of this. Heavy metal, death metal, pure punk you name it.

  • kiss are sissy boys compared to the motor city 5!!!!!!

  • This why Detroit is and always will be different from anywhere else. Raw emotion.

  • I don't think the world was ready for the Motor City 5

  • who in there right mind couldn't like this?

  • DEEEETROIT!!! YEA!

  • Was that Lester Bangs at 0:10 watching from behind the speakers?

  • this is the best example of a rock band, they had amazing style and look aggresive

  • 20th anniversary of the death of Rob Tyner today.

  • I'd give my left nut for one of those Marshall stacks.

  • were they one of the first punk bands?

  • MC5 >The Stodges, The New York Dolls, The Ramones,

  • Man in cleveland we had those concerts in the old stadium and man i mean you talk about totally trashed out? fuck. in fact any concert back then all you smelled was pot period. I cant imagine how people today would go to a concert and sit there and look like the suck asswhipes they are today :). Fuck you all. Peace out.

  • @jazzynet1 Richfield Coliseum! Toledo Sports Arena! Joe Lewis Arena! Once you got inside, you did whatever you wanted! Great Times!

  • What does Kiss have to do with this video???

  • lol like 90% of the crowds got afros

  • 2:52 i love it

  • Real men right here

  • yeah kick out the jams. i much prefer chocolate spread.

  • The singer looks like Jimmy Tarbuck with an Afro.

  • Raw power, energy & enthusiasm. They'd blow anyone around today off the stage. I bet they caused a few draught cards to get burned and they certainly weren't republicans. All you little 21st century posers out there, this is how it should be done!

  • @666popey666 At the Drive In and the Mars Volta.

  • @punkmusicmetal Fuck yeah. Cedric is nuts.

  • I love les MC5 !! Du rock à l'état pur !!

  • You may have heard of something called "rock 'n' roll", and wondered where you might be able to find. Well, here it is.

  • High Energy Of Rock'n'Roll...Thunder In the Sky!!!

  • @alexzivo I'm picking up what you're laying down

  • people didn't even know what to do with MC5 in 1970.

  • Jesus fuck. What a great band.

  • The original Speed Metal

  • It's good because it's short, repetitive and they're not singing about some depressing, psychotic BS.

  • @quintincollins they left the psychotic stuff up to the Stooges.

  • @alexzivo And so do I.

  • @Chelseachonga Thats pretty funny

  • MC5 made a fraction of the cash that bands like Foghat or Kiss did because they made waves.

  • @alexzivo this is before motorhead, not sure about cream. definitely more minimalist than both of those bands though, just pure stripped-down rock n roll... you're looking at the start of garage-rock/punk rock right here.

  • i love the footage!, but the whole guy getting up on stage and being lamely pushed off by some toothpick is remotely gay! in a negative way. there's always some one person doing the lsd thing and it looks so stupid.

  • Now this is what i call a proper rock and roll band.

  • Don't ask me why, but this song was a helluva release for us back in 1969.

  • I love the reaction on the audiences face when Rob Tyner yells, 'KICK OUT THE JAMS MOTHERF*****!!"

  • Motherfucking wonderful.

  • WOW ,sucks I didnt see them live ,too young ,Pioneers leading the hard rock

charge in America, VIVA MC5 !

  • boardskins - nope, never had to pay to see Kiss, they worked the bar for free, and we would have been a lot happier with some of the other bands that played there . . . I did get to see the MC5 play, didn't get better than that!

  • this is REAL music.

  • KISS this!

  • now THIS is rock'n'roll!

  • seems like they should be called The MC5

  • censored again! Motherfuckers

  • on dvd?

  • Detroit seemed to be a hot-bed for freak out, jam act such as MC5, Iggy and the Stooges and Funkadelic, sometimes playing on the same bill, a mind blower.

  • @jody808 The only things in common Funkadelic and the MC5 have are crazyness, awesome lives, awesome musicians, drug-fueled rock n roll, huge influence and belonging to Detroit !

  • @oclero don't forget the afro! lol

  • @oclero don't forget the afro! lol

  • So why do MC5 fans hate kiss so much. I know they suck, but you don't get all music videos filled with comments pointing it out, what's the particular connection with MC5?

    also, ROCK THE FUCK ON!!!!

  • a tinted black dan armstrong lucite guitar! how bad ass is that?

the MC5 rock the fuck out like it was the end of time! i love this band!

    rocknroll forever.kiss really weren't that special.they were just o.k.

  • I can almost guarantee you that nobody plays this type of music on a solid body Rickenbacker 12 string anymore!

  • Here is the continuing legacy of Detroit music. If you ever wondered where Jack White of the White Stripes got his sound, here it is.

  • Back in the day when crowds at concerts were stoned out of their minds, it was a major accomplishment by a band to get them to stand up.

  • @motorcityquig they are too stoned.

  • there crowd sucks

  • D=MC5

  • However, KISS is still rockin'!!!

  • I met Dennis and Wayne last year at Peoples art fest here in Detroit. We're also friends with Leni & John.

  • Did Hendrix ever jam with these guys?

    Can you imagine that?

  • @fosbury68 Hendrix and the MC5 shared several bills and may actually have played a a show at Pioneer High School in A2 ( I saw a Grande card for this once). I know they hung out at Trans Love Energies and Mike Davis used to have a chair Jimi sat in from back in the day. Maybe he still has it..

  • So wonderful years the sixties and seventies. MC5 forever!

  • The first punk rock concert?!

  • You can say this guys were ahead of the time just looking the expressions of the audience!

  • I don't feel strongly for KISS or MC5, but if it's a contest of who is the better band, well, let's just say if there was to be a fight over who rocked harder my money is on the army.

  • wtf kiss does anyonne can beter then this

  • YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! MUTHA FUKA!

  • Ok..This settles it, I really want to go back to the 60's and 70's to stay

  • I fuckin hate KISS.Gene Simmons would sell his own kids for some cash, all he gives a shit about is makin money not music.Wayne Kramer thats a cool ass dude he is as real as it gets

  • @TheRalphus666 HAHAHAHA! MY sentiments exactly! I grewup loving him as a kid but soon learned the truth about that bag of shit with feet!..LOL

  • @TheRalphus666

    thats how commercial bands are

  • @TheRalphus666 KISS is not a band. They're a fucking cartoon. Can anybody even name more than 1 or 2 of their songs? They suck.

  • @daleahill no sir you must be corrected they suck big sweaty hairy balls

  • @85mariapatricia Then why are you watching this, jackass? Go back to Lady GaGa or Justin Bieber or what ever shit that passes for music today. This is ROCK AND ROLL, fool.

  • @daleahill KISS fucking rules, I can name you how many songs you want.

  • @daleahill Kiss is a fucking GREAT band!

    Strutter

    Nothing to lose

    Firehouse

    Cold gin

To name a few from their first album

  • @daleahill YOUR LUCKY I DONT SHIT ON YOUR FACE YOU STUPID CUNT.KISS IS ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!

  • @ryler99 How old are you? 12? And it's YOU'RE moron not YOUR. Go get an education.

  • @daleahill No no no, it's a simple lack of proper punctuation.

What he means is that the "lucky" belongs to you. He then goes on to detail his efforts with respect to not defecating in your face. I believe he also implies that you own a "stupid cunt", whatever that may be. And then from what I can tell, he begins drooling on himself. That's really the only way I can interpret that last sentence.

  • @daleahill LOL at this comment.

  • @daleahill

Detroit Rock City, Rock it up, Love and Rock, Rock Rock Rock, Rock and love, Lick it Up, Lick my Love, Love my Rock, Rock n' Roll all Night, Des Moines Rock City (the original version Detroit Rock City), I got a Big Tongue -Rock It (technically a Gene Simmons solo effort but it counts), Rock Me till Next November, Love Gun, Crazy Crazy Nights, Rock Ham and Eggs, Ladies Room, I Stole your Rock, and I was Made for Rockin Love. 18 songs off the top of my head! NISM!

  • @daleahill sure do...suck...

  • @daleahill detroit rock city and rock and roll all night & part every day

  • @daleahill Nothing wrong with being a cartoon.

  • @daleahill Beth, I Love It Loud, Rock and Roll All Night, Black Diamond, God of Thunder, Deuce, Strutter, man I'm getting bored with this.

  • @daleahill They are a joke now, but in their prime KISS was a big deal and I'm sure an influence to many.

  • @TheRalphus666 sell his own kids. thats a dumb statement

  • @associate39 You must of never seen Gene Simmons on a interview he spends 3/4 of it pitchin shit and the other 1/4 how he thinks he can fuck any woman in the world

  • @TheRalphus666 And spends the last 20 seconds explaining that all file-sharers should be thrown in jail for life.

  • who were the baddest motherfuckers around in 1970? mc5 for sure

  • These guys should all be getting royaltys in the billions from 10,000 rock stars that owe it to them.

  • I love how that guy at 2:48 just gets pushed off the stage back into the crowd. X)

  • What a bored and boring audience. And this has its roots in the Stooges, West Coast and the Stones. Nothing wrong with that, but punk it aint!!

  • @leitros Back in the day, the concerts were about the music. Yes, we were stoned out of our minds, but we did not get up and jump around like a bunch of dorks at a REO Speedwagon concert. The MC5 was all attitude. Think about it, this song came out in 1968. The idea of starting a song with M-F'er!!!! was something no band up to then would ever have dreamed of doing.

  • @motorcityquig Oh yeah! How about Country Joe singing Fixin' to Die at Woodstock. Anyway, I agree it was a great time. The Grande Ballroom, Detroit should be preserved as a national treasure.

  • @leitros Punk it ain't...your fuggin right on that son....these boys had REAL soul and could actually play there instruments. They truly raged against the machine...punk wore rage like a costume...posers!! Try spitting on one of these guys and see what happens! You'll get a Marshall stack rammed up yer azz! The audience is mesmerized and understand the show is on stage...not in the audience.

  • No fucker spat on John Lydon!

  • ive been seeing the new york dolls called pre-punk, so i asked someone what does that make mc5, to which they replied "jurassic-punk".

  • Don't forget about Styx, I love that song "Babe" Talk about rockin. Oh Yeah.

  • @landis444 Good one.

  • HOLY MOTHER FUCK! This Rocked!!!!

  • also check out "DEATH" 3 black brothers from Detroit about 72-74. Great punk ahead of its time.

  • Some MC5 trivia for you. My brother grew up with these guys and they were originally called the Mt. Clemens 5 (Mt. Clemens was the city they lived in) and later it rolled into the Motor City 5.

  • ORIGINAL PUNK!!!???

  • @skyehoyt1971 ... Yeah! That's right! As original as it gets

  • Notice how Sonic screams at :53 for no apparent reason?

  • Rock's day.

    Everyday rock on!

Greetz from eletronic betery of the Brazil.

  • Whoever edited out the famous intro should be kicked in the balls

  • MCFIVE THE BEST SIXTIES COLLECTOR VINYL

  • i love how when they start playing every one stants up

  • edited = sucks.

  • Rob Tiner one of the best front men of ALL Time!! RIP

  • Michelle Obama just gave a speech at Tartar Field last week. I could'nt help but think of this

  • way ahead of their time, maybe too far ahead. Protoheavy metal I guess. Whatever they are almost totally unknown and among the best and most original of all. Most of all the MC5 rocked!

  • Everyone's like "....the fuck?"

  • There is something very different about their sound. Sonic Smith used a Mosrite guitar, and you can hear the 'chunkiness' of that brand of ax. Wayne Kramer is using a top-of-line Epiphone (a cheaper Gibson product). I think this is a key to the sound that makes this song unlike any other.

  • @teden20 actually in this performance, wayne kramer is using an ampeg ada-6. and sonic is using a rickenbaker 330. in a lot of performances, yes kramer is playing an old epiphone wilshire, which epiphone actually just re-issued. granted it's with a full of stop tail bridge, not with the old weird tremolo systems they used, and i've never seen sonic using a mosrite. always a rickenbacker.

  • Had the 8 track in my car .They were so talented and energetic .40 years later and they still sound great.Lets see if these losers like Nickleback can do that.

  • @Heckle100 Yes, Heckle-I totally agree!

  • so far ahead of their time.

  • Die Ludolfs!!!

    :)

  • this is what rock is all about

  • @omghitbycar --This is what Ann Arbor and Detroit was all about--Now, 40 years later, with all of us spread across the universe, y'all are finally gettin' it--THANKS!!!

  • My mom saw them a year or so later, but I went to daycare at Wayne State University, where she went to school. So this is awesome.

  • Kiss is from New York, not Detroit. They never claimed to be from Detroit. They just wrote a song about the city.

  • cool..... :)

  • Detroit invented punk rock.

  • @4letterfword Memphis invented rock , Detroit just provided the punks

  • @MrGopherhead You wouldn't be able to walk your pantywaist white bread ass any where south of eight mile. Memphis stole black music just like every other "home" of rock, what a joke. "A one for the money, a two for the.." Just didn't cut it in motown. I wouldn't want to be ANYONE from Memphis in 1970 and play after these guys...Crickets..Stay with YOUR PASSION...... CHEMTRAILS.

  • @Amsterjamland I see you are as ignorant about music as everything else, big surprise there.

  • @MrGopherhead Yeah been playing for over 25 years and have learned nothing.Your a total faggot jag off and you know it.Now go back under your rock you little...Gopher. Time to go Back to being a "Mechanic" and online 24/7 praying for a life.
