For me, it's got to the point now that I'd happily settle for a XBLA port of the first two Dreamcast Shenmue games for now, Shenmue I and Shenmue II.
I think they'd have to release the first two Dreamcast games again if SEGA was planning to bring the third part out because it's been quite a few years now since the last Shenmue release that there are gonna be people around that havent even experienced the first two Dreamcast Shenmue's yet.

Shenmue was legendary. why? Well simple, because this game was art, which is a completly different medium then just a game. Look at all games that are considered art? They feel so emersive. If anyone does not have a dreamcast with this game and wants to experience a good art game get Shadow of the Colossus. Shenmue and SotC are just two examples of games that are works of art and puts a new meaning to who we are as "Gamers"
The thing that pissed me off about shenmue 1 was that i didn't get to meet Shenhua the girl from my dreams. When I got Shenmue 2 I was pissed off about not getting to fight Lan Di, and the way it ended. If shenmue 3 would ever be released I think I would be wise to include a re-launch of 1 and 2 as well. This would be wise so you can attract new gamers to it. all thats needed for the upgrade is better graphics and character models.

I’m not trying to start a race fight or anything. But if the characters of Shenmue were White or "White looking", the game would have sold. Now I understand why Japanese franchises like Final Fantasy, Pokémon, Resident Evil, Mario, and etc, did so well. Shenmue was the greatest game I’ve ever played, and inspired modern free world RPG games. Unless anyone can think of a game where the characters actually looked Asian, and marketed as well as the franchises aforementioned? My mind won’t change.
I don't understand what "race" has anything to do with how well the game sold. The reason why Shenmue 2 didn't sell so well was because of poor marketing during the time when it came out for Xbox, not because people didn't want to play as some Asian guy willing to avenge his father's death.

It seems that the hype for the shenmue games is not as big as it was (and rightly so after such a long wait). However, with the right marketing for a shenmue 3 game there is no reason why it can't sell over a million copies. I really hope that they will make it because it was such a unique gaming experience for me.

@SCRiBLeZ04 Yes, the CEO's have asked him to advise the company from time to time, but he has moved on to his own company, he stated he was frustrated with Sega so he made his own company about 5-6 years ago. I presume that's where all his energy has been focused while Sega have played it safe.
Pretty much every great childhood title from Sega has come from this man, they've lost someone great.

@Crazycupmuffin When he said "I think Sega will let me", he likely meant that if he could get together the financial backing for a continuation of Shenmue, Sega would not legally obstruct him with rights issues.
Note he said LET, as in allow.
Shenmue 3 may actually be more likely with Suzuki now outside Sega, as I think Suzuki would find it easier to get support from a third party than Sega themselves.

@evilcandyflip Actually, Shenmue II sold pretty well on the Dreamcast in Europe and Japan, but our exclusive US XBOX port of it sold poorly mainly because a number of people had already imported the PAL Dreamcast edition or weren't interested because they never heard of the series (Sega's fail marketing).

Shenmue was legendary. why? Well simple, because this game was art, which is a completly different medium then just a game. Look at all games that are considered art? They feel so emersive. If anyone does not have a dreamcast with this game and wants to experience a good art game get Shadow of the Colossus. Shenmue and SotC are just two examples of games that are works of art and puts a new meaning to who we are as "Gamers"

The thing that pissed me off about shenmue 1 was that i didn't get to meet Shenhua the girl from my dreams. When I got Shenmue 2 I was pissed off about not getting to fight Lan Di, and the way it ended. If shenmue 3 would ever be released I think I would be wise to include a re-launch of 1 and 2 as well. This would be wise so you can attract new gamers to it. all thats needed for the upgrade is better graphics and character models.

I’m not trying to start a race fight or anything. But if the characters of Shenmue were White or "White looking", the game would have sold. Now I understand why Japanese franchises like Final Fantasy, Pokémon, Resident Evil, Mario, and etc, did so well. Shenmue was the greatest game I’ve ever played, and inspired modern free world RPG games. Unless anyone can think of a game where the characters actually looked Asian, and marketed as well as the franchises aforementioned? My mind won’t change.

I don't understand what "race" has anything to do with how well the game sold. The reason why Shenmue 2 didn't sell so well was because of poor marketing during the time when it came out for Xbox, not because people didn't want to play as some Asian guy willing to avenge his father's death.
The name of the game "Shenmue" already implies that it's going to be Asian-based game.....

What loopholes in my comment? Do you know Ninja Gaiden? The main character is Ryu.Hayabusa. He is Japanese. He is Asian. The game is POPULAR in Japan and all over the WORLD since back in the 90's.
Therefore, I have to conclude that "race" isn't a BIG FACTOR on the popularity of a game. It's how well the game is ADVERTISED in USA, JAPAN, etc...
You don't have to believe me, but I'm just stating my theory on why Shenmue 2 didn't sell so well.

It seems that the hype for the shenmue games is not as big as it was (and rightly so after such a long wait). However, with the right marketing for a shenmue 3 game there is no reason why it can't sell over a million copies. I really hope that they will make it because it was such a unique gaming experience for me.

Shenmue was the best game ever made in game history and its graphics/gameplay were ahead of its time.Nowadays many games have copied stuff from Shenmue like QTE,mini games,free roam,etc,but none of these games can achieve the epicness Shenmue was and still is.If Shenmue 3 is going to be released someday,I am pretty sure that it will be the best game ever made.I have already give up the hope,but tbh I hope it is going to happen.New Dreamcast+Shenmue 3=epic win.

It's mostly about bashing someone's face in while getting as much blood on ur shirt as possible. They might appear similar to shenmue in some ways but shenmue delivered a unique experience because there were many different aspects to it.....without smashing a motorbike into someones head :)
