What plans did you use? I am thinking about building a similar boat to use for crabbing in the back bay. Looks like your boat is about 10-12 feet? I am thinking about a 14 footer. What was the total build cost?
Hello, I started making today a boat that looks exactly like yours, but it's not stitch and glue, it's a new technique I am experimenting with, I build the basic shape of the boat in hard paper (done now) and I double the amount of fiberglass and epoxy from the inside and the outside, my goal is to make a lighter boat that would be easier to transport.
What do you think about my idea? would it succeede?
I don't know what you mean by "hard paper". Oaktag or cardboard? These will not work without many coatings of fiberglass and fiberglass tape. Leaving time for them to dry between coats. This will make the boat even heavier then one made like mine with 1/4" wood and two coats of epoxy. My boat is under 150 lbs. It can probably hold 4-5 people at max. 800 lbs. You need cross hull support, what will you use for that?
I would build a small model of 1-2 ft. and see how strong it is. Epxoy is about $65 a gal. Why waste a lot of money and time on something big if it's not going to work.
put a little 5 hp on that or a trollin motor
