Let the record reflect that KPIX-TV, northern California's first television station in December 1948, went off the air in June 2009 with the words, "Oh, I'm sorry ..." uttered by talk show host David Letterman. Although Mr. Letterman had no idea of the ultimate context of his words on KPIX, his remarks somehow seem fitting, like a "pre-apology" to viewers whose screens would soon fade to static.
Thanks for posting. The "big moment" apparently is around 3:49 in this clip. This was a rather unceremonious end for the real "channel 5," the first television station on the air for commercial service in northern California. It debuted in December 1948.
