This is in contrast to a "star", which is an investment that pays for itself many times over. I think the whole situation is pretty disgusting, especially considering, like any insurance company, bean counters should account for the risk of dogs, and cover these costs by the profits made from those who do not use their coverage.

What it is actually is illness and injury insurance.
Obviously if the point is profit one will design the risk pools to pay out as little as possible in illness or injury claims.
Thus they do indeed try to cover only "healthy" people--that is those who make the least claims, to wit, get sick or injured least.
Why act otherwise if the goal is profit rather than coverage?

The reality is this, we can just past any public option. We have to pass a well written public option that contains what we want in the bill. If not then it will be bill with so many loopholes that it might as well to have never been written. It also must be cost effective as well it can't be a system that goes broke in 10yrs. My family lived in California for 8 years (we are from Canada) because my Father was a doctor. We moved back to Canada after he declined promotion to Partner in a firm because he would be responsible for "profitability", i.e. denying medical care. HEALTH IS A FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT, no matter what, and should never be left solely to the private sector for unethical profit-taking. All the while our health insurance companies have REAL death panels, and they literally have board rooms where a bunch of people get together and sign a paper that is a death warrant to someone who gets denied coverage. And nobody in the media picked up on that!

Honestly, I can't even begin to answer that question, because I don't have information on government finances in relevant areas.
But I do understand the concept of limited resources and accept it as inevitable. What this video points out is that an insurance company with excess resources is cutting someone off - which is much worse than government cutting someone off because the resources ended.

I would think that the insurance company was trying to break a legal contract here, and they are in the wrong.
If the company cant pay for the health care, they should file for bankruptcy and then the person would lose the heath care anyway.

I think this was somewhat misquoted. Although I don't side with the insurance company, "dog" is a business term, referring to a bad investment. This is in contrast to a "star", which is an investment that pays for itself many times over. I think the whole situation is pretty disgusting, especially considering, like any insurance company, bean counters should account for the risk of dogs, and cover these costs by the profits made from those who do not use their coverage.

. A few weeks ago some MEP went on American TV and called the NHS a mess. That is completly wrong. Despite the NHS having a few flaws, us British love it and never want to get rid of it. And we do have private companies over here you can pay for if you dont like the NHS. In fact, the NHS is something like a safety net meaning that people who are poor dont have to worry about health costs when they fall sick. EVERY one pays for it. EVERYONE wins. Not having insurance doesn't stop people from driving. There are tons of people that still drive without insurance. Those people get fined. Samething with sick people,just because they don't have insurance doesn't stop them from going to the ER. So who foots the bill when people do that? Us the tax payers.
