  • They aren't vicious Man-Eaters, but most peaceful creatures don't have an Rows upon rows of 2 inch serrated teeth.

  • This video doesn't show that great white sharks are harmless, but proves they have complex behaviour and are intelligent. The shark is able to separate the feeder from the food.

The main reason great white sharks are so dangerous is because they're unpredictable. We know they attack humans, but it also happens they completely ignore us.

  • Surprised that the shark didn't get aggressive when she 'patted' its nose like that. I mean, they are sensitive there since that's where their receptors are.

  • Dude have u not watched Animal Planet? Great White Sharks were already prooven to ignor their regular pray and attack human beings ON PURPOSE at the slightest hint of the smell of human blood, Thank you Animal Planet. oh and FYI I fucking LOVE THAT THEY DO!

  • As you said "They are peaceful creature", why won't you swim with them?

  • move your bloody feet! 0:37

  • Sharks are wonderful creatures if anything we are killers look up shark fining look at the pictures people kill millions of sharks per year cut off their top fin and THROW THE REST OF THE SHARK IN THE WATER

  • that would be pretty incredible

  • Hey Sharkyyyyy!!!...Ahahah!!!!

  • She is very lucky. This is so amazing sharks are beautiful

  • Umm fuck that!

  • Id shit myself if it came that close to my feet. Would be awesome to have a pet great white tho.

  • Then she divorced her husband and married the shark.

  • Agreed LampLightMan. If humans we're on their diet, believe me we could not go swimming the seas. Lucky for us we don't taste good for them. However I attribute every animal a personality, even fishes. There are curious ones, shy ones, posers, peaceful or aggressive ones. This is from my personal experiences as a diver. Guess you could compare dealing with the great white to dealing with a lion. Body language is harder to read though. You really have to know what you're doing.

  • clearly a dolphin in costume

  • The shark is neither peaceful nor combative. This animal is predatory and they instinctively prefer fish, seals and other aquatic prey. Apparently this fish didn't perceive Ms. Taylor as a threat or as a food source. But it's still very cool!

  • What the shark is thinking:

"You got more fishies, I like fishies, you're my friend, I love you, pleez I can haz more fishies?"

  • you do relize sharks dont kill humans on purpose only kills when it mistakes humans for seals or you attack it

  • if she'd of got in the water, this clip never would of made youtube

  • Probably an old shark thats very sick and will die soon.

  • A shark attacks as a threatened response due to the fear of the person. This is very normal.

When humans are afraid of something they are very dangerous to themselves and those around them and we become very unpredictable. If and animal sees that you are not putting up your defenses then it will see that there is nothing to fear from you.

  • My heart was in my mouth when she was leaning over.. Imagine if she slipped and fell in!

  • That is amazing

  • That is absolutely amazing. Most shark attacks are misunderstandings. I would have loved to do this, Just like her. Must of been a hell of an experience.

  • Maybe I'm a wuss but that doesn't look peaceful to me. But at least now i know that if i meet a shark in the ocean apparently I just have to feed it with other fish.

  • If I was that shark and she was patting me on the face like that, her hand would be straight up GONE.

  • Who would feed a shark.? I could just picture a great white jumping out of the water and eat that woman. XD

  • Hilarious- "I can haz more fishy? I luv you, pleez more fishy."

  • i have a feeling that the "shark whisperer" isn't going to last very long........

  • @Funmaster524 lol

  • when was this video shot?

  • It's a wild animal...

  • For all your information, Valerie Taylor has swum with sharks without a cage & had the same reaction. And without feeding them beforehand.

  • No thank you, no thank you. You can play with your sharks lady, I'm just fine with this harmless little hamster.

  • What a gentle shark. I bet it was an ugly dolphin...

  • That's a good little shark, now buy him a sweater and put him in your purse..

  • Why the fuck would you ever do that?

  • Comment removed

  • I'd snatch her into the water...

  • this is absolutely amazing and beautiful!! to see so much mutual respect for one another is something wonderful to see. This is a smart women, she clearly knows she can't do this with any other shark, this is just a once in a life time marvelous moment :).....fuck I wish I could do this!

  • fuuck that shit..

  • cant wait to see the video when she decides to jump in with it

  • It's just lulling her into a false sense of security , then ... CHOMP!!

  • I don't care what anyone else thinks... That's pure fudging amazeballs! I wana play :(

  • shortly after this was filmed. the shark was paid for his acting.

  • i tried doing this to a shark and i lost my right hand

  • She could of lost her toes

  • This is amazing but I think if she had gotten in the water it wouldnt have ended so well.

  • this proves nothing, you can do exact same thing with lions or grizly bear however if you dont have food they will substitute you for the food

  • Your great conservationists but this a rediculous scenario, would you encourage everyone to? If a lion was starving you could probably feed it too. There intelligent like crocodiles etc, they know when either you or them has the advantage and possibility of eating you.

  • What is the point? What does this change? Are we going to swim side by side with sharks now?? Get real!!

  • The only real scary creatures on earth are humans. We are the only species that kills often for every other intentions but food.

  • @thecelticdancer1 i don't know about that rather fight another person than a lion or a shark anyday. shit, it rather take on an angry mob that a fucking shark.

Oh and btw killer whales kill seals for fun and play with there bodies. Humans arnt the only monsters.

  • Why didnt she put her foot into the water and leave it there !

  • that woman is chuck norris

  • Free sharkieee!~

  • she has huge balls to do what she did.... mad props lady(:

  • Some people here don't understand WHO Valerie Taylor is. She's been swimming with sharks and other marine creatures for decades and has an intuition about them. She has a special ability to have these creatures trust her, come near her, not harm her, and even play with her. She's not holding up a sign saying 'HEY YOU SHOULD TRY THIS' - of course not. That would be bloody stupid. But her presence with them indicates that there's a lot to be learned about them. They aren't mindless eating machines

  • lets see how peaceful fido is when you have a hook for a hand and a stump for a foot

  • I don't believe that there was any 'connection',Rod and Valerie Taylor have been working with Sharks for decades. In 1992 they went into the sea and swam with a Great White without a cage protector. The Great White could've torn her apart at any stage. It could've already fed. There's a multitude of reasons, but a connection?! No.

  • yeah right...!

just a drop of blood and it gonna drag her down the sea.and call his buddies for an old lady pizza

  • @willchan4 Humans aren't and can't be part of the Great Whites food chain because they don't live in the water.

  • Can she feed a megalodon

  • Sharks are by no means non-peaceful or most people would call it "evil". They were designed to be predators and was born to do what they do best for the past 16 million years. Humans are just a part of the food chain, its as simple as that.

  • They aren't peaceful but they aren't hard out evil either.

  • lol love the whole asscoiate people with easy food argument, ummmm people are easy food man, when you enter the ocean you just droped in the food chain

  • This doesn't prove they're peaceful, this proves they're smart enough not to bite the hand that feeds them.

  • You guys need to watch the whole documenty. I did like 8years back. <--- Its old.

She have a nickname, if I remember is called the Pink Mermaid. She just have in in born ability with aquatic creatures. THEY just trust her, A LOT.

You guys should have seen how she made friends with a EEL. She hand fed it, make friends, a few years later when she returned, the eel, left its hiding place and swam around her like a puppy.

Some ppl are born that way. They just have this understanding.

  • @Humster

That doesn't excuse the fact that she's risking the safety of others. Most people who "befriend" large predators end up eaten themselves. There's a reason we and our ancestors feared these animals.

  • @BunnaySango

That why I said watch the whole documentary . Don't have links sorry (>...<

What they tried to do in that documentary is: (could be wrong can't remember details since it alike 8 years back)

    1) Conservation of marine life

    2) Dis-spell popular belief of sharks

This is only a small part of the show, they did explain the dangers of doing what they did.

How is she endangering the safety of others. When the others didn't think before they act?

  • @Humster

Because animals fed by humans associate humans with an easy source of food. When they get fed they are docile, but they can start approaching other humans and become quite bold and aggressive when they're not met with the same easy food source.

  • Oh, man.. i mean... oh girl...

  • It is trying to eat the foot step, how is it going to tell the difference between a fish and an arm?

  • This is insane, you don't feed wild animals, period. They come to expect food from every human they meet, and when they don't get food they attack. You just DON'T mess with nature.

  • @BunnaySango

I agree. It's just stupid to think now wild animals can be handle like dogs.

The old granny just got pure luck. Without food, she will be dead.

  • That is incredible.

  • ur really famous ive been working on sharks and my teacher told me about u u r very brave!

  • Brave lady.

  • However if I was her I would settle for what she as achieved . Getting complacent will end very badly :)

I wish her all the luck in the sea xx

  • Wow. Very good video . Thanks

  • That`s amazing. I had no idea they could exhibit that kind of behavior towards people.

  • Like you wouldn't have a go at that. Pussy if you wouldn't - They are the most awesome creatures on the planet...

  • This woman might very well be my hero. Amazing video!!! Absolutely love it!!

  • i think the oceans will be safer without sharks. please dont come up with the bullshit of chain alimentation becase it is just a theory.

  • @max10wonderboy safer for who? you? the ocean is an ecosystem. sharks are the the apex predator and they keep that ecosystem in check. without sharks, there will be major repercussions. Unlike on land, the ocean is very hierarchical, but for a reason. Harmony is when order is practiced, disharmony is through chaos which is what happens if sharks are taken out. but don't worry, global capitalism will bring us there. overfishing and overshark fishing is causing a lot of problems in the ocean.

  • @max10wonderboy yes, an ocean without sharks would be "safer" for humans. but luckily, humans don't belong in the ocean; that's not our natural habitat. If you research the marine ecosystem you'll realise how important sharks are. In fact, considering the controversy of shark finning and overfishing, it would be the safest if humans just budded out of the ocean, period.

  • For all those commenting about' the shark grabbing, biting, eating her or others please have a think about how many paople are actually bitten each year by sharks. Do a bit of research on the numbers.......then have a think about how many people die each year from doctor misdiagnosis. I's rather swim in the ocean than go see a doctor. Fins up :-)

  • gotta love those cute little cazy old ladies

  • I want one as a pet!

  • Did she just... feed a great white shark? DID SHE JUST PET A GREAT WHITE SHARK?! Damn, how awesome must that be.

  • it kept its eyes open....wow.

  • that would be funny if instead of going up begging for more the shak just nomed on her..... nom nom nom

  • wow... i really want a pet a great white now :o

  • I completely respect shark experts like Mike Rutzen and Andre Hartman who are helping in understanding and protecting these creatures. Some of their free-diving videos are insane to watch but it teaches the sharks that we are not a food source. Idiots like this lady are doing everything to undermine that and teaches sharks that humans are directly attached to a source of food. What happens the next time this shark runs into a human.. and lord help them if they are in the water.

  • "come on sharky"???oooh she is so stupid and very lucky she had food to feed the shark otherwise she'd be it's meal!!!!you can t change an animal or a fish or whatever if nature decided for it to be wild!!!ok???

  • This video tends to explain why many of the earliest explorers frequently described sharks as "dogs of the sea"...

  • Remember the shark attacks at an egyptian resort? it turns out the white tip responsible learned to associate divers with food. Seems the divers usually tied their bait bags to their belts leaving it to dangle behind them that's why most of the victims were missing part of their buttocks. Attacks by great whites on humans are usually mistaken identity or what I like to call a taste test, but thanks to well meaning people like this lady that may eventually change.

  • This is clearly the way this woman is gunna die.

Her biggest mistake is believing something as wild as this can be treated like a pet, it would take one misjudged step and she'd be in there with it and down its throat.

Not only that, whats to stop it just grabbing her anyway?

  • @WillowFrancais I agree. I cant believe people think it wouldnt attack, especially if you confused or intimidated it.

  • all anything needs, is a little love.

    proof here. :D

epic bravery, i would like to try that sometime.

  • DAMN NATURE, YOU UNBELIEVABLY TOLERANT.

  • the problem with this, is that sharks while proven to be much more intelligent than previously believed, are associating people with food because of idiots trying to prove something by feeding them. its just like a lion, perhaps you could maybe tame them and they could even recognize you, but ultimately they are a wild animal and its best that they are afraid of boats and humans. you are conditioning them to not be. people like this are why people get attacked.

  • its prob so calm because its been fed by people in boats before

  • and yes thats a verry verry stupid way to feed that thing.. shes lucky her foot didnt get takn

  • fact is a sharks a shark,.. thers some calm sharks and theres sharks that will bite and sharks that will actually fuckin eat you,.. this dont prove there peacefull if that thing didnt eat for a few months and she swam with it i bet shed get bitten in half,.. but anyway even if there maneaters or peaceful its an animal and deserves to live just as much as we do and shouldnt be killd off

  • OMG what if the shark prepelled it self it took the lady, stupid idiot women

  • OMG i cant believe what i just saw O_O

  • All fun and games until.......

  • That woman has bigger balls than any man I have ever met.

  • @GaryBrianeTuttle That's discusting

  • I hope sharks can be trained like dogs. Because that will allow me to have a BEWARE OF SHARK sign.

  • RESPECT!!!

  • How judgemental of you all. Kevin Richardson has proven lions are not evil man eating machines. Valerie Taylor has proven great white sharks. Humans are so much more dangerous. You have more chance of being shot/stabbed walking down the street.

  • @Bohdii100 No, you don't have more chance of that. That's patently false. You only have more chance of being shot and stabbed by people if you are almost never in the environment of ANY large predator in the wild. Animal attacks are more rare than human attacks simply because we are rarely in their domain, but always in our own.

  • yes it is

like a lion go and play with

  • i dont give a fuck.that is fucking stupid doing that.it would be only a matter of time before the shark would rip her hand off!!

  • This poor woman needs help.

  • @davidh00 And why is that? This is an amazing story!

  • @jjackson59100 It is amazing but not because it indicates lovely/humanized peaceful sharks. More because of the naiveness or death-wish of the woman. I'm reminded of Timothy Treadwell and the way he humanized bears (one ate him). These things cannot be reasoned with. They are killing machines. She was lucky. Very.

  • BRUCE!!

  • .... But it doesnt stop internet clowns from jumping in to save us from the GW!!!!

This is old footage, what you detectives don't realise is most of what we know is from people like RON & VALERIE.

  • Go look up Ron & Valerie Taylor.

The only footage of a real shark in Jaws was filmed by them off the coast of Australia.

(the scene where it rolls on top of Hooper's cage - it got stuck accidentally and the thrashing made a good scene)

These guys have done wonders for Shark and Marine life, basically like Cousteau. Theyve stop major oil mining operations and helped in creating Marine park zones. Also the shark mesh suit is their creation, although it wont stop a GWhite.

  • She said shed swim with it? I'm pretty sure it would see that as her feeding herself to it lol

  • @amazin465 Agreed. "Come ere sharky come ere!- OH FUCK IT BIT MY ARM OFF! FUCK GREAT WHITES! LET'S KILL IT AND EAT IT'S BABIES!!!!

  • I agree with iggyfisk it is a terrible idea to feed any animal large or small. Animals learn to look for humans and lose their fear of them. Small animals lose their fear and walk right up to you looking for handouts. In the city pigeons and squirrels and even some rats come within a few inches of you. Larger and more dangerous animals do the same and people start to view them as docile but everyone must remember that they are still wild animals and have the potential to hurt or kill you.

  • Perhaps their exchange may have panned out a little different if she was actually in the water....

  • @Lurch150 There are quite a lot of footage of divers in the water with Great Whites even just on Discovery.

  • @PUNKem733 Well...sure. But I imagine that swimming with great whites, there's a technique to it to keep them from biting you, like...."always look at them so they can't sneak up on you, etc...." I don't think this shark is smart enough to know the difference between grandma and a fish head and I don't think she's smart enough to know what to do to keep him at bay. Know what I mean?

  • @Lurch150 Actually Great whites are thought to be pretty smart. And under water with them, we look so small and different compared to their usual diet, that the average one won't bother with us.

  • @PUNKem733 It's funny that you're more concerned with defending the shark's intelligence than the granny's. I hear that granny's can be pretty smart too sometimes. Recent tests show granny's can exhibit intelligence as high as seals. I mean, just look at how well seals and sharks get along!

  • @Lurch150 I was talking about Great whites, not an old lady.

  • @Lurch150 ..grandma's name is Valerie Taylor and considering her and her husband Ron were the first to film great whites underwater I think she's very smart. "Grandma" as you call her has a huge list of underwater film credits under her belt and has probably spent more time underwater than on dry land. Mrs Taylor was also the first to wear a chain mail suit (1979) to test it's effectiveness against shark bites. She was born in '35 and began diving in '56 so I wouldn't be dissin the grandma.

  • @ozjaybabe "so I wouldn't be dissin the grandma." Then don't. Leave it to me ;)

  • @Lurch150 ha haaa.....pay that....it's all yours.

  • @ozjaybabe Perhaps there's no real need to pursue this any further, but I find it interesting that of all the people on this forum that are talkin smack about the old lady, you chose to rebuke me. You're secretly in love with me aren't you?

  • @Lurch150 bugga.........the secrets out.. "blushes"

  • where's the kitchen?

  • Granny is crazy

  • Its the homo jaws!

  • magnificent creature and worthy of our protection and respect.

  • Cool but no thanks lady im not tryin my luck for a fish friend

  • wow she is fearless

  • Comment removed

  • Also there is growing proof that white sharks are curious of humans. Some observing divers in cages or putting there heads out of the water to watch humans on a boat.

  • Actually there is growing evidence that white sharks may be as intellegent as some dogs and cats and will infact peacefully accept food from humans, and can infact identify humans and boats. After all its a free lunch with nothing trying to tear there eye's out or fighting back. The fact the vid shows the shark might have been begging gives hints of intellegence. If not more then the human feeding it at least. Its like feeding a large wolf. Sure its friendly but its still a animal.

  • @eaglerocks123

My wife calls it Timothy Treadwell Theory: Of course those bear will tolerate you Timmy, you're a guaranteed food source when "the usual" runs out...and it did.

  • @eaglerocks123 Actually you could have just let the video speak for itself captain obvious.

  • Tell those teeth marks on my arse cheek that sharks are peaceful creatures!!!!

  • even if u offered a billion dollars i would not do this

  • thats one toff granny

  • Between hippies and Disney movies people think animals are friendly.

The only consolation is when one of them gets eaten.

  • "Peace-ful", eh? They will get "full" on "pieces" of you!

  • THE shark WAS THINKING "GIVE ME THAT FOOD BITCH and No ONE WILL GET HURT"

  • How can she stand with thoes big heavy Balls?

  • She has bigger balls than any man i know!!!

  • when people feel they have a connection to sharks, thats when they get eaten

  • there is no "bond" between her and the shark, that is just stupid. the shark is a magnificent killer and it should be fucking respected - NOT treated as a PUPPY!

    goddamn this woman is ignorant.

  • letting the shark bite into that iron bar platform = great idea! damaging it's teeth and what not.

can't fucking stand this woman, she's probably the most ignorant person I can think of - read her book and you'll understand what I'm talking about! she glorifies every stupid action she's commiting and completely fails to understand that nature in fact CANNOT be understood! at least not completely. the only reason this shark didn't bite her head/hand/foot of was plain dumb luck and nothing else.

  • @Silvialikesmeat "letting the shark bite into that iron bar platform = great idea! damaging it's teeth and what not."

    You're an idiot.

  • @guhboook care to elaborate?

  • @Silvialikesmeat Why do you say that nature can't be understood? That's the responsibility of naturalists, and they've been powering on with the identification and classification of animal behaviors in a rigorous academic setting just fine for hundreds of years now. Her findings concur perfectly with a large number of other current studies on Great White sharks.

Why are you so angry about what a trained naturalist does?

  • @NeoItoh

Your improperly confound the natutralist with the role of the scientist. Naturalists often don't adhere to Science. There are no scientific studies supporting the notion White sharks have the cogintive capacity for abstract curiosity. All they do is proffer unfounded speculation and cite bee sting and coconut mortality rates to condition the public to see sharks as "misunderstood" despite there is no science at all behind their "mistaken identity" groupthink.

  • @kmkfiction2 Actually, there are many modern studies that have catalogued shark social behaviors, particularly regarding pecking order, intimidation and submission displays, mother-child relations, and the sheer distances many breeds of shark will travel to be with others of their kind. I would be happy to provide numerous links if you need them.

  • @NeoItoh

Sharks render no maternal care. A documented "mother-child relation" includes consuming them. Sharks have no kin selection. White sharks are not social creatures nor are they territorial. They are nomadic opportunisitcs out for themselves. As for "studies" purporting to divine what a threat display means- that is pure speculation. The displays documented around elephant seal kills off the Farallons could just as easily be in futherance of mating, not the alleged "right to feed."

  • @NeoItoh nature is a force, it's Chaos and it's way WAY bigger than any of us - it will never be fully understood, and to even think you can is foolish! and when this woman says "oh they're such daaarlings these sharkies!" she's misleading people - underestimating nature and great predators (like sharks AND humans!) is dangerous! humans don't belong in the ocean whatsoever.

  • @Silvialikesmeat Sharks are not perfect, and they can be dangerous. But then, you wouldn't protest if a person was calling a mastiff a 'darling', would you - despite dogs being responsible four thousands upon thousands of human deaths?

Humans shouldn't disrupt the ocean's ecosystems, but to say that we 'don't belong' in the water at all is absurd. If we have the capacity to enjoy the ocean without damaging it, we should take advantage of it, and earn a deeper appreciation for the world.

  • @NeoItoh

Here's what you fail to see or admit seeing. Sharks are "dangerous" due to the risk of human predation. To claim "mistaken identity" exception or "curiosity" or "exploration" all include assuming key facts not in evidence. What we know in the Skinner attack off Fish Hoek is that he was consumed alive, bite by bite, by a White shark. There is no basis to conclude the observed behavior was anything other than predation. Aside from mating, that is all White sharks do. They hunt and eat.

  • @NeoItoh

Unlike crocs, they don't defend their young, so they really have no evolutionary need for any kind of empathy or abstract thought that you (no pun intended) curiously allege exists. Their ecological niche impels them to remove sick, weak and helpless prey in the open ocean on their vast migrations, i.e., not only pinnipeds along the coastline at famous locales. To have any emotion or "feelings" for prey would be an injurious trait per Darwin's law of Natural Selection. That's science.
