When I was about five or six I was prone to raiding my parents' collection of albums to listen to (which also led to a whole lot of Renaissance, It's A Beautiful Day, Moody Blues, Beatles, ELP, Led Zeppelin and Simon & Garfunkel). For a while, I thought I had two favorite bands: Jefferson Airplane and Starship. When I told my mum that she laughed for about an hour before she managed to explain. And to this day I love JA and this is one of my favorite songs! <3

@MaccabeeRidah in literature ice cream usually represents a good thing that is fleeting. ice cream is good but it eventutally melts, hence all good things must come to an end

I am just glad when I was little that my parents did not let me listen to my generations music in the car, even though some of the music is good its not the same as it was back then. I am 17 and I have been listening to this music for 17 years and they have been amazing.

This is quintessential Airplane--raw, harmonious, original....and NOT on the top 40! 'White Rabbit' and 'Somebody to Love' were the glitter, but the Airplane gold had to be mined (IMHO). Thanks for the post!

I bought this when I was about 14 (when it came out) and listened to it over and over and over- it literally shaped my world view. I never did drugs; music was my drug and from this I went onto Coltrane, Miles, Messiaen, Reich and beyond.

I don't think it was a matter of "hook" for airplay as it was as a matter of lyrics and censorship. It was not "politically correct" with the establishment that was in control at that time.
