This is actually really helpful for people like me- have a spinal cord injury and are trying to learn how to walk again. After a while you kinda forget how you did it before....
this might seem as a silly question, but could anyone tell me how to render all 3 walk cycle views, i.e. side, perspective and front all in one video..
@silvermoonshadow666 I'd try creating a group. Duplicating the group twice. Rotating one 45 degrees and the other 90. Throw on a black background and it should work.
@silvermoonshadow666 Just figured this out with my own work, open your scene, move your character off centre, and then merge in another copy of the same character, position this one in the centre. Repeat the process once more, and position this character to the right. Rotate them as desired; front view, three quarter and side view. Tried this in XSi and it seemed to work. All you have to do then is render the scene as a flipbook. This should work in Maya too.
Alright the walking everything is good but whats up with the hand on the finger part not so sure if you should animate that.... I hope you understand where i am pointing
haha, you meant norman walk cycle? Cuz that's what the rig is called, and I'm learnign animation too atm. It's preety good referance for the assignment I have.
I can see that you've put the walk cycle on infinity so it keeps walking til the end of the animation. what if you want to animate the hand waving in the 6th cycle and then continue to the walk?
I can see that you've put the walk cycle on infinity so it keeps walking til the end of the animation. what if you want to animate the hand waving in the 6th cycle and continue to the walk?
this is great, real fluid. theres only one thing i cant stop noticing. i feel like the hip rotation is about two frames ahead of where it should be. it gives me this weird feeling that when hes walking that his hips and waist are detached. i dont know, it could be only me, but i cant stop seeing it. great animation overall though.
i always wonder why people say that you walk wierd......... walking is just how you move at a comfortable pace....... no matter if you walk on your toes or whatever. i should know. lots of people say i walk weird just because i walk on my toes.
@MegaYugiohking hmmm...you could have had an injury to what is known as the "common fibular nerve" (also called the "common peroneal nerve"). I'm not saying what is "normal", but most people will dorsiflex their feet when they walk and roll their heel with each step. Do you have to lift your legs high and does it "slap" down with each step? Maybe you've had an injury to the side of your knee in the past? Only saying this b/c I've been studying (way too much) for my medical boards recently! :)
@Rcrazie - I would do it in after effects, really easy, the black background once rendered out of maya, or whatever program he's using becomes the alpha channel, and then you just layer the three renders on top of each other. easy as pie. looks nice too.
@fast2ghl - When you say it like that it sounds soo east, but what whenver i render all 3 views in maya and layer them in after affects, they dont fit/ i have to stretch the videos to make them fit which will make the picture look all wierd.
What kind of settings do you have for your affter effect when you were importing your walk cycle.
@xxhellspawnedxx No, they don't, I guarantee it. Yes they straighten there...but they don't snap like that.
Here's the thing with animation, it's not realism. Do fingers really sway like that? No, they don't. But it looks pleasing and creates a nice flowing action.
That pop should not be there...actually there's 2 pops, one for stepping forward, and one for back. The root joint needs to be moved further up and down as he's walking or he needs to take smaller steps.
Hey this is looking pretty good, your arms are too tight into the body, and they are coming across the body too much when they are in front of him. Your elbows are breaking on the way back too. you might want to propel the arms forward a little faster than they are currently. The give a sense of disconnectedness.
To animate in Maya, you move around these NURBS curves attached to your model (via the bones) and keyframe them like you do in Flash. It's a lot of fun, and if you know your 2d principles, you can easily apply it to 3d. Just find a model that has already been rigged, cause rigging might drive you insane!
Nice walk. I think I would add just a little most twist to the hips and a little more of an up jolt on the hips as the weight is put on the leg. Also, if this is more of a "normal" walk, then the head is bobbing too much. I think it's tempting to add follow through on the head but we don't really walk like that. We'd be dizzy all the time. The muscles in our shoulders and neck help to counter the motion in the rest of our body. Other than that, nice job.
you should check the knee, it tembles i had the same problem there must be a frame where the knee is straight in the next frame breaks and the next frame goes back to be straight, ^^
actually the timing of the arms is closer than you might think. In The Animators Survival Kit, Richard Williams talks about how the arm does not perfectly correspond to the motion of the opposite leg - rather it follows the motion shortly after as the character goes into the follow through dip.
I know how to make a walking cycle from the side, but I had no idea how to do it from the front. This is great! I'm using this as a reference to my project, if you don't mind.
dude for every walkcycle i do, theres a wierd thing happenin with the arms, lets say i make it go from front to back, then it circles inside through the body, whyyy???
mayebe im wrong, but there might be a slight IK pop in the left leg
