I know people like to give Robert Johnson credit for this release, howerver I think if we could find a way of researching we may find the original was written and sang by Blind Blake... Just a hunch...
Claptons says RJ's his favorite artist of all time, but then bashes africans immigrating to England? Clapton is God? Clapton is racist. And has lost all my respect.
@ERICxISxMONTREAL Wher'd ya hear that? In a documentary I heard (when he was sober) he said that when he was a teenager he fantisized about picking cotton in Cotton Fields... :P. Anyways he might have been wasted when he said that :P
@ERICxISxMONTREAL Clapton a racist? Ask BB or Buddy that question and you will have a black fist in your mouth and another one up your ass....Get you facts straight before you bash anyone.
Douche Bags like you piss me off way to much, so please accept my apologies, Asshole!
@ERICxISxMONTREAL I heard that same rant, I took from that the same thing I hear from people who are tired with illegal immigration here in the US. He's ticked about the illegal immigration to England, which who can't understand that? Illegal immigration is a problem period. Anyone who says you're racist because you are against illegal immigration and the tax it causes on your welfare system, is really out of touch with reality, or a racist themselves.
u want to hear the blues ....Jorma Kaukonen ...David Bromberg....true blues players....And if u want to hear the greatest Acoustic guitar player in the World Check out Tommy emmanuel.....he is second to none.
@kulchenko I've been a semi-professional musician for about 6 years, I'm only 18. The best thing to have when it comes to blues, especially upbeat blues like B.B. King and Clapton play, is the crowd getting involved. It's not a way to piss on the artist's work, certainly not in my experience. It's more of a way to let the artist know you can relate and support what they're saying.
as I look at the coments for this song, people say they like one side , or this way of Claptons playin more than others, good thing for us poor slobs is he canplay any HE WISHES TOO, with great technical proficencie, and HEART! that is E.C,s genius, he can play it ALL! better than most rock/blues /jazz guitarists can play there speciality , thats what makes him what he is versitility , and the fact evvvvvvvven if he did not have a penny, he would be playin some old giutar in some old joint..
Yes I met him and his band. They were Albert Lee, Gary Brooker, Dave Markee, Chris Stainton and Henry Spinetti on that tour. Go to my website link on my YouTube channel and find out more. Listen to my uploads. Cheers.
My name's Fran Raya and I'm a female singer/songwriter from the UK. I was invited to support Eric Clapton on his 'Just One Night' Scandinavian tour performing my own songs. After I sang I used to watch him play from the side of the stage. Such a true artist and musician. I am so proud of the fact I toured with him. Thanks Eric for the opportunity.
I was thinking of how to explain the personal intensity of Eric Clapton's covers of Robert Johnson as I watched this... and I just cried... Those crowds, the clapping along with the music, the accolades, are what Robert Johnson deserved and never saw. But Eric does him justice.
Im not sure why he's doing the lisp thing? I've me tEric twice and he doesn't have a lisp. "DHENCHY could be right. But having false teeth is definitely not true.
he may have had some dental work done earlier in the day. it sounds as though his tongue is being restricted by some irregularity on the back of his upper teeth.
yes, but i think it is deliberate. He does it on other versions of the song, and i haven't heard it on other song, i think he's trying to emulate a down, south 'black vernacular'. it's either that or his tongue has swollen up!!
I'm not sure if this is true, but I heard that back in the 70's he fell flat on his face and that his front teeth are false. Do you think that could be it? Again...I don't know if the story is true

It's common for the downbeat to be felt on 2 and 4 in music that's shuffled.

Clapping on a blues song: That's a very classy way to piss on the artist's work.

robert johnson didn't play with picks, he used his fingures, you cant play RJ with a pick
marleyl 3 years ago
I don't mean a plectrum, I mean fingerpicks and a thumbpick. A lot of the old blues players used them, and it definitely sounds as if RJ did.
