Yes, I would have prefered it a human. Not a forced human but a human playing a big role in the space-race who is willing to stand behind it 100% and take the risk without expecting any creature to be tricked be it a human being or animal such as Laika who were the victims in Russia and NASA. Too bad it wasn't like in the comics where radition is the cause of super powers so Laika could have come back to kick their ass instead of being a sacrifice to the powers that be.
