for five years i didnt know about this ending and i heard that a fatal frame 3 was gonna come soon and it made me think back to how awesome this game was, and how it made me think and a twist at the end, but now i know that there is a beautiful ending after all... Thank You ;)

THIS is the reason I don't want to play the other games...all the others have incredibly depressing endings...well the canon ending for this one's sadder than hell too, but at least the hard ending for Xbox is happy. I can't take much more melancholy and despair T_T

Perhaps its just my bitterness talking (I played the PS2 game) but isn't this ending a little....Deus Ex Machina-tastic? I mean....Yai seems to come out of left field here to solve everyone's problem. I applaud the desire to give us a good ending that's not so bitter sweet. But having a ghost whose prescence wasn't even hinted at before now show up to solve everything just seems kinda...high handed and makes the main character's roles kinda insignificant in the end. Eh. That's my take, anyway.

@obamasensation Well, not only that... according to the story line of the first game, Yae escaped, got married, had a child, then hung herself due to over-use of the Camera Obscura and all the children going missing. She appears as the ghost of a grown woman in Himuro mansion's courtyard. Sure, she could have passed on and be reborn as Mio... but that also doesn't make much sense in the timeline, because as far as I know, the Amakura twins and Hinasaki Miku are around the same age.

@KazehanaAyame I've heard the girl in white you see standing in front of the gate at the VERY start of the game is supposed to be Yae, and that she 'piggybacks' off you over the course of the rest of the game until the ending....still doesn't explain how she managed to be trapped in Himuro and All God's Village at the same time, unless her soul got cut in half like Kiries in the first game (maybe the 'ghost of her lost memories' or something?).

@obamasensation I don't remember there being a ghost at the gate in the beginning of the game in the resembalance of either Kurosawa girl... *goes to look* Okay, nevermind. That was Yae, alright... but not a ghost. A memory captured by the land at the very most. Basically, a residual haunting. It appeared to Mio as a flashback of sorts. The cursed land showing her a bit of its past. There's no way something like that could have piggybacked on Mio.

you will get this ending when you finish the PS2 game in nightmare mode. first you must finish the game in normal mode to unlock hard mode. and then finish it in hard to unlock "nightmare" by then you will get this ending rather.

Its so nice to see... A tainted village, with beautifull butterflies dancing around.. The crimson makes the village looks haunted and creepy.
