Some deaf people actually regain some hearing, enough to use hearing aids and listen to music. But if you get a CI before that happens then you are stuck. You are stick for life. CI destroys all residual hearing and the ability to regain any hearing naturally. Also, if the CI fails and you can't sign then that means you cannot use an interpreter. That would be a very, very bad situation to be in.

Even though I don't agree with CI, but you do have a point. Hearing aids ARE deff MUCH CHEAPER!!!! I have one and when I do play sports and go for a swim. I take it off for secure reasons.

I really don't want to wear CI because it looks really ugly and ALIEN.

I rather get natural cochlear from dead people. Just like replace natural kidney and liver .

I think the problem the deaf communty have is that alot people with the implant don't sign. The implant is not a cure. Thats is why some students in my ASL class are learning sign. Their daughter has CI and she also signs. So they want to sign to. Getting an implant is no different than learning a foreign language. You aren't turning your back on your culture just because you learn a new language.

@Aluapay No. The problem is in many cases its forced. Hearing parents force it on deaf babies or children.

i have bilateral CIs and i sign and talk but i talk more than i sign but my gf has a hearing aid on one ear and is deaf in the other
