I was gonna say something like "I want you" but after reading some of the comments I decided I should take it back. Leaving this comment is my weird way of saying sorry. (for something I could've prevented by not even commenting in the first place.)
SO.... umm, uhh, how do I go about searching for a cute "a-religious" (my euphemism for atheist) chick like you somewhere around me? while this is not entirely a question I seriously want answered, I hope someone helps me out a little.
I remember him. As a little boy I thought his show was fabulous. In Australia we also had a physics nazi call Dr Julius Sumner- Miller who ran a show called" Why Is It So?" I loved that too but he was really strict-like a Russian music teacher. The high school kids on his show were put on the spot and they really had to perform or old Doc Julius would really give it to them. Still, he was a great man in his own way like Mr Wizard. Just a different style. RIP Mr Wizard.
When I was younger Mr. Wizard's show would come on at the time when I was suppose to be leaving for school. I loved the show and hated that I would always miss it because I had to make the long walk to school. Every now and then I would be late because I couldn't pull myself away from watching and my parents would get angry with me. How absurd is that, late for school for watching Mr wizard and getting in trouble for it.
Rebecca, I have to thank you from the absolute bottom of my heart. I had forgotten this show long since past until just now, but I remember how precious it was to me. All I could conjure up into my conscious mind was a vague memory of someone using marionette tricks to make a skeleton talk. THANK you!
Mr. Wizard was one of my favorite shows as a kid. I even met Mr. Hebert when I went to Universal Studios once. I was in in second grade I think. Brings back memories...
first of all, how is drama boring? I thought drama was, like, the definition of interesting.
and this whole "science is lame" crap is stopping kids from getting interested in what is, IMHO, the best way humans have to find out about things. (not to mention causing babies to die from measles because they haven't gotten shots, among other things)
You're probably a skeptic of something, whether it's unicorns, leprechauns, etc. So do you really want people to believe whatever someone tells them?
Sorry, I was just mad cause I missed Lost. I wanted to yell at a skeptic-hating idiot, and your comment was the first thing that came remotely close. It struck me as "skeptics are nerds" and I got mad. I apologize.
i loved mr wizard when i was a kid, i remember at one point in time it only played at like 5 or 6 in the morning, and i used to wake up that early just to watch it, i didnt know he passed away :(
@chukster71 You say she looks good on her back? Well she would look better on my front.. Sigh I know that was terrible but i'm in a corny mood. Where can I find my own stimulating nerdette to take home I ask.
i dont know stepcheek..im kind of skeptical about your intentions with my mr wizard video experiment..you might sell it to the russians..ive invented "SKEPTICAL FUSION"...
mooeypoo's experiment (v=iPZ_cRv9P8Y) measuring the speed of light with chocolate and a microwave oven would have been a good candidate. Too late, I guess. :-)
That show was soo critical to my developing mind when I was a kid, not to sound like a dork but I dont know how else to say it. I learned soo mutch from that show!Don was sutch a chill guy who could explain anything to anyone.I am 27 and still to this day building and experimenting in my basement. They need more shows like this, instead of the trash that kids watch on mtv.
The obsevation in the immediate is how your presenting this?.. In the pursuit of science exclusively, I would like to examine how your horizontally placed and how your hair remains demonsratively forward and inticing!!! You are essentially mind and body. That is the synopsis
I have posted several incarnations of my original video. All I ask is that when you pick the final entires, you make sure to view my latest effort to make your decision, not the original Ben Hur length video I originally posted.
Thanks for your consideration.
PS: My mom's maiden name was Watson. Might it be that we are related?
It takes some very special talent to make a video about Mr Wizard look sexy. Seriously, this is a great idea.. I wish I had some time to come up with something. Mr Wizard was an Icon!
people, remember that mr. wizard's strength was using *everyday* objects for cool science demos. it doesn't need to be terribly flashy or polished--it just has to be somewhat interesting.
and if it fails, you put that as part of your spiel, analyzing why it fails.
my husband and i will be posting something this weekend. can't wait to see even more entries!
I will develop a unipolar magent for this project. This magnet will run a perpetual motion motor as the brushes seek the missing pole - forever. I wish I could get it done before the deadline, but I think it will take me a week longer.
Mr. Wizard was wonderful. He is in my Pantheon with Randi, Shermer, Nye, Kurtz, Nickel, Sagan, Feynman and more. Enjoyed meeting you in at the New Humanism get together
Yay! Rebecca you rule. What a great idea. I am already hard at work designing the jewelry for the winner. I promise it will be very, very cool in honor of all the cool people out there and in honor of Mr. Wizard. I heart science and skepchicks (and skepdudes too)!
He was a hero of mine too! Unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to be able to do a decent experiment by your deadline. Great idea though and I'm looking forward to the responses.
I'm going to have to agree. The deadline is too soon for me to do something decent as well. I have a few things in mind but considering how much of a perfectionist I can be...
