  • This is one of most beautiful and one of most nostalgic masterpieces of old centuries... It's like an exquisite sadness...

    GREAT PERFORMANCE!

I used to play it on organ.

  • thank you!

  • Who is the old man in the video? ;-)

But serious: wonderful free and breathing interpretation. Pure artistic craftmanship

Next week i'm celebrating my 40th birthday: Mein junges leben......

  • I've read that virginals were played with the musician standing. Elizabeth I played in this manner. Yet I've also seen a 17th century Dutch painting that shows a woman seated at a virginal.

Would standing versus sitting have an effect on how one plays - more freedom of movement when standing perhaps?

  • Yes but the ladies then had other dresses. The ladies were standing not the men, at least in paintings. In my opinion, their playing had a social function and I don't think they studied all day long

  • Beautiful piece, sound and playing. Thanks for sharing.

  • Welcome! (to be honest I'm not sharing it, I'm giving it all)

  • a perfect performance and instrument

This piece always makes me want to cry!

thank you for sharing with us

  • Woow:D Lovely playing of beloved Sweelinck

I want one of these as well!!

Does Terwal also build Clavichords by the way?

    Yours,

    a countryman/boy of the builder

  • hello leo, if you want a clavichord, you can try the instruments by dick verwolf (leiden)

  • By the way. What's the difference between a muselaar and a virginal anyway. I always thought a Virginal had a keyboard sticking out of the rectangular 'box', which I don't really fancy. But you got a lovely one here:-) thanks for posting!

  • no a muselaar has the keyboard at the right and makes a more nasal sound. n Italian virginal has a sticking out keyboard. and thanks for your compliments.

    have a nice year

  • Mein junges Leben hat ein End is my favorite of the secular Sweelinck works. Very well played with excelent note groupings. Lovely instrument. Who is the maker?

  • thank you! This instrument is build by Henk Terwal (oss/netherlands and his broher). The brother is the

    better known harpsichord builder.

  • Beautiful!

Also, your video production values are outstanding.

  • thank you for the compliment.

  • Awesome

    Thanks
