  • Merry Christmas to you WhySoHigh* and thankyou for all the wonderful videos

helping other fellow paraplegics. You are a super hero. Pierre

  • Hey man what level of injury are u? just curious

  • Nice job. I am an inventor, and have created a wheelchair workout machine, kefty. I was wondering if you could give me your thoughts about it. Nick

  • Hi... i was just wondering where you got the braces and standing wheelchair from? I'm guessing you have insurance, does it pay for any of these items? My husband is a T-11 incomplete... and I'm trying to find things to help him out. I need to get him off the couch and start living life again since he's only 25.

  • @neecole8480 The standing wheel chair company is the name of the company for the standing chair, and the braces were made when i was going thru rehab, not sure exactly where, you might want to check a local prosthetic or orthodics

  • I'm hoping in the near future you and other like you will benifet from a exo skeletin suit, which would assit you in moving ,I see the technolgy evolving to include the use of gyro's[like on the Segways]to keep you standing upright with little or no effort. There wil be a day when spinal injurie victims walk and run.

  • @inagod to be honest i think the exo skeletin is an insult. i really dont care that i cant walk. if large amounts of money and research are to be used to help ppl like me, it should be used and spent on stem cell research. the exo skeleton can not take away the pain associated with a spinal cord injury, it does not help you regain bowel, bladder or sexual function. put someone in one of those goofy things and ill roll circles around him in my chair. save the robocop costume for halloween.

  • @whysohigh of course my first choice would be a repair of the spinal cord, stem cells or ?but for some this technology will improve their lives.I have a spinal injury,I can walk a little, but it is extremely painful,so I walk very little.I want to get a recumbent hand-cycle trike, but the cost is,way out of a disabled budget,so I may build one.take care buddy

  • Hi how are you?Are you still going about on your standing wheelchair? May I ask if being as athletic as you look on the video, you got involved in sport?

  • @PauleQueenie i only use the standing chair for reaching things, its not much for mobility. no im not interested in any wheelchair sports,

  • @whysohigh, Happy New year 2011 to you. Thank you being straight forward and I quite agree with your comment made to another commentor (if you don't mind me commenting on @inagod). Whatever orthotic aids on may receive will never be good enough to palliate for the loss of the spinal cord functions. People have microchips on almost everything of value nowadays, yet they never thought they could use microchips to fill the gap of a spinal cord injury, all they need are electrical connections

  • That's pretty amazing, I love your braces. This vid was takin forever ago so things maybe different now. Are u able to stand like that without your braces?

  • @blah96ish stand with out my braces? not any time soon, like the video info says my injury is a T-10 complete.

this video is only 2 years old, since then i have purchased a standing chair, i rarely use the braces any more, at first it was a good work out but its not practical for mobility, its slow, unstable, dangerous and it takes both hands and every muscle i have control over just to keep from falling on my face. i cant even remember when the last time i used them.

  • @whysohigh So you havent tried just your walker without braces? The last time you used them were in this video :P

But what you have been doing recently is great, the standing chair is def a big plus, especially if u wanna stand for a bit. Dont wanna get pressure alcers. Does yours move around?

  • @blah96ish yes mine moves around, i have a video of that on here also

  • @blah96ish yes mine moves around, i use it mostly for cleaning my house, reaching high up items and i have a salt water aquarium that requires a lot of maintenance and the chair makes it very easy to do.

  • It's not a question of either or. Why not do both? I use a chair as well. There are things that can only be done from a standing position. You are thin now but wheelchair users tend to put on weight as they grow older. Yes, falling is a bitch but your athleticism will save you. I was born with my paralysis so I had a big advantage as I grew up using my system. I didn't own a wheelchair until I was 33 years old. The vast majority of wheel chair users think as you do. Almost none use the braces.

  • @banjohombre that's amazing you went so long without a chair. I guess it just depends on your lifestyle, I'm pretty fast paced and the braces were just too much and too slow, no one can keep up with me when I'm in my chair. And Its been a struggle my whole life to put weight on, I've trained with body builders and my metabolism is just too fast, to gain weight I need to consume over 4000 calories a day. If I miss more than one day at the gym or eat less than 4 meals, I lose weight

  • ou sound pretty adventurous. Give the braces another shot. But what you need is called a THKA orthosis. There aren't many doctors or orthotists who will know what you are talking about, but tell them to look it up. You have the serious arm strength and stamina that would be needed because you will be hauling a lot of iron. Forearm crutches with a swing-through gait will get you where you want to go. Up and down stairs, in and out of a car, on planes, buses etc. Curbs will be nothing to you.

  • @banjohombre I've also tried those and loftstrand crutches, they are cool buy just not for me, I can cruise in my chair and carry things, falls also are not as severe and easy to recover from. I liked the braces at first mostly cuz I missed walking, now I'm used to the chair and don't care I can't walk. For me the chair is best.

  • Cool Vid Bro! I've been Paralyzed since I was 17 from a 1992 train accident. I've been turned down for medicaid 10+ times so I have to ask, what do they cost? I used this type of brace (they called them Craig/Scott braces when I was in the hospitol trying them out) in therapy and I remember getting light headed the first time and passing out because I had not been up that high in 4 months. I'd like to talk to you about these if you can. Cheers from Florida!

  • after watching this i had to take a min to wipe the tears from my eyes. i am the mother of a 9 yr old son who is now a T-9 comlete due to a car wreck. i love the braces that u have. i need to get some of them for him.

  • ORIGIN CARE, Source of Specialist Care for People with Spinal Injuries. We provide 24 hour, live-in care services for people with spinal cord injuries.

  • I am a t-4 complete you are an inspiration!!! I'm working very hard in physical therapy myself to walk again, this is truly amazing to me thank you for sharing!

  • That bodacious dude, awesome!

  • i've been looking into exoskeletons and i stumbled onto your video ........i think it's awesome you've got those braces!!!!!

but what do you think of these exoskeletons?

(you can search youtube if you haven't already)more specifically there's 1 in Israel being used today for very much the same thing.....so what do you think about them?

  • honestly, i dont use my braces anymore, they collect dust in my closet. the exoskeletons to me are an insult. not being able to walk is the least of my worries, it doesnt bother me, if i could change anything id like better bowl, bladder and sexual function back. i think they are wasting time and research focusing on the wrong areas. imo

  • wtf iv been gettin sad cause i just brok my leg and cant walk for a few months

    much respect keep it up

  • Really great job! Seems like you're lucky with all the stuff you can do without (what seems) enormous effort. Hope to see more walking soon ;-) Keep up the good work dude.

  • not sure what your trying to say here?

  • me also I have braces and I walk! it's marvelous to stand up and to walk, but it's difficule to stand up and down

  • Much respect! Dude seriously if you havent already you need to provisional patent your work and get it out there for others to walk. Good job keep it up.

  • Respect!

  • I have a buddy like that and he got like that from gunshot wounds. What about you? Anyway, he uses his walker frequent and refuses to use a wheelchair. He's putting his hope into stem cell research. You?

  • Keep up the great work!! I use a walker and have a wheelchair so I know the feeling.

    BEST OF LUCK!

  • they keep my knees and ankles locked when im standing, most of me standing is due to my balance and upper body keeping me in the right spot over my lower body so i dont fall.

  • I think its awesome! I'm in a wheelchair too. I've been in a wheelchair my whole life because I have a disability called spina bifida. I know this might sound weird well I don't know if it will but I'm going to say it anyway....if you want to be friends just send me a message on my youtube email. ~Nikki~

  • so do the braces keep you standing?

  • Thanks so much dude. I've been paralyzed for over 12 and a half years now and it's so refreshing to finally find someone who is posting some vids to help others learn the basics. Keep strong dude. Peace!

  • i have braces like this only mine look a little different i use them for 2 hours a day im a t8 t9 complete i dont belive the doctors when they say people paralyized wont walk again theyre not god they dont know everything they just know the surgey they done on you. Determination is the word and if you belive you can walk again you will im young and strong im only 15 and been hurt for 2 years you look young too keep up the good work dude

  • Greetings friend! Congratulations on your advancement, you're lucky, I got barely 22 years old and an injury t-12 and I can not move my legs only with the help of the apparatus, publishes a video greeting for you!

  • yeah dude dont listen to doctors prove them wrong and keep trying to walk i have spasams im not sure if that is spelt right lol and im able to stand with them not take steps but bare weight on them and dont think your life has limits now because your in a wheelchair just keep a positive attitude and your life wont change
