Derek Roddy probably has better technique and is faster then Adler but his drummer isn't nearly as musical or creative as Adlers. The whole solo is the same. Blast beat followed by quick double bass followed by same fill. His technique is amazing, his speed is amazing, but he can't write a solo. Its not all about speed, its about the music and creativity you put into the drumming.

@guitarralaraja typical, maybe in some ways but have you noticed thru the videos you watched that other drummers are going for speed, blasts, fastest double bass, etc. Where Chris Adler on the other hand has what allot of drummers hide.... He has melody and allot of it. He is the only drummer that I know of who can play a simple and slow beat and make it sound very full and complex

What Chris was doing wasn't impressive, but he wasn't playing a solo, he was he was playing a song, so there's nothing wrong if it didn't amaze you.

@VegetableBasket Most definitely. Chris Adler plays 4/4 beats at a slow pace at a drummer competition.. is that all he's got? The bands you named are extremely technical with polyrhythms and odd time signatures and the like. So in technicality, he has nothing on them. As for speed, he is no match for guys like derrek roddy, romain goulan, or george kollias.
@VegetableBasket alot of the dudes who all the little kids look up to in the big name metal bands like joey jordison and chirs adler are good but there are so many more interesting drummers (i dont say better because music isnt a sport and isnt about whos better) like all those dudes you mentioned and jon karel, moe carlson, and whoever that guy is who is the dillenger escape plan's new drummer

my freind is 13 and HOLY CRAP he is a badass at drums... he played panic attack like 6 months ago and wow it was like perfect... and of course chris adler is one of his idols. OF COURSE.
Watching what a drummer plays in a song is a terrible measure of the drummer's skill, unless you're Neil Peart or Danny Carey. Even then they're capable of so much more than what they do for songs.
actually this drumming sucks .... even lars ulrich is better than that ... no emotions, no tightness, no innovations ... nothing ... just boring ... vene the groovy parts are played without any feelings and stuff ...
eh. he does all he needs to do. which, realistically, i'd rather have someone like a drummer do just enough rather that too much or not enough. this video didn't really show him doing very "fancy" or "showy" techniques or anything, but that was still a good beat.

i kinda see what they were trying to do when they brought him, that's smart business thinking but it's not the place for him, not that you shouldnt include metal in modern drummer, just not him... theyre songs are just not that complicated and millions of people on youtube can do them ;(

@guitarralaraja typical, maybe in some ways but have you noticed thru the videos you watched that other drummers are going for speed, blasts, fastest double bass, etc. Where Chris Adler on the other hand has what allot of drummers hide.... He has melody and allot of it. He is the only drummer that I know of who can play a simple and slow beat and make it sound very full and complex

@guitarralaraja I don't disagree, but the thing is, when you play a song, you're not supposed to look, or sound impressive, you're supposed to fit in and make it sound good. What Chris was doing wasn't impressive, but he wasn't playing a solo, he was he was playing a song, so there's nothing wrong if it didn't amaze you.

everyones opinion on adler are completely different there is one line that he said which i absolutley love love ......... ' i take a drum beat and try to expand it but not take anything away from the song' also a good muscian know when not to play.

@VegetableBasket Most definitely. Chris Adler plays 4/4 beats at a slow pace at a drummer competition.. is that all he's got? The bands you named are extremely technical with polyrhythms and odd time signatures and the like. So in technicality, he has nothing on them. As for speed, he is no match for guys like derrek roddy, romain goulan, or george kollias.

@VegetableBasket alot of the dudes who all the little kids look up to in the big name metal bands like joey jordison and chirs adler are good but there are so many more interesting drummers (i dont say better because music isnt a sport and isnt about whos better) like all those dudes you mentioned and jon karel, moe carlson, and whoever that guy is who is the dillenger escape plan's new drummer

Watching what a drummer plays in a song is a terrible measure of the drummer's skill, unless you're Neil Peart or Danny Carey. Even then they're capable of so much more than what they do for songs.

eh. he does all he needs to do. which, realistically, i'd rather have someone like a drummer do just enough rather that too much or not enough. this video didn't really show him doing very "fancy" or "showy" techniques or anything, but that was still a good beat.
