Statehood is not going to be a state, regardless of how many Puerto Ricans die in the war or have died in the wars. Everybody knows that Puerto Ricans enlist themselves in the army because they can't find a job and/or don't want to go to college.
I vote for statehood unless the rest of the states don't mind us taking federal money and not paying federal taxes on it (unless you work in the federal government).
And the congress has to jump in or else they can say what they did in the past, which was say they didn't do an official vote as it didn't have the OK of the congress.

But first we need a event of referendum to consult the people and know what we want, but the congress didn't want to take action for long time ago, and it's time that congress take action in this affair. we will determine our future when congress approve H.R 2499.
@EchoEight This legislation will force the up or down vote. It says it is "non-binding" yet it is. Puerto Rico can determine it's own future anytime they want by the people voting anytime they want. Statehood can be attained without congresses interference. Even Afghanistan can become a state as long as they abide by the Constitution and go through the proper channels. I just don't like the government intruding where they don't need to be. Puerto Rico is free to choose their own destiny.
@Rockgenious Dear Friend, Of course is force to vote up, because the purpose of the bill is know the opinion of the people, But of course we need to be consulted in and referendum and that what propose the Bill (HR 2499). But said that HR 2499 "will force to vote for the statehood" is wrong because the bill have many option (Like independence, free association, etc) Statehood is not the only one option presented in the bill.
Para los efectos ya somos independientes, lo único es que no tenemos poderes para negociar directo con otros países. Somos el quinto mercado de USA.

@EchoEight This legislation will force the up or down vote. It says it is "non-binding" yet it is. Puerto Rico can determine it's own future anytime they want by the people voting anytime they want. Statehood can be attained without congresses interference. Even Afghanistan can become a state as long as they abide by the Constitution and go through the proper channels. I just don't like the government intruding where they don't need to be. Puerto Rico is free to choose their own destiny.
