I think children are beautiful without makeup and dressed up to prance around like show animals. My daughter (4) sees me putting makeup on and she always wants to put some on, but I always tell her she is so beautiful without it. So in my mind...pageants are stupid and overrated. I have been in pageants since I was 8 months old. It was a way for me to meet new friends at a young age and also give me and my mother bonding time. As I grew, I continued competing, winning numerous titles and crowns. Almost all the money that is in my college savings account has come from my winnings. Pageants have taught me proper manners, educated me on the importance of public speaking, and most importantly, helped me grow into the person that I am today. You cannot judge based on one show

I doubt very highly that your mother actually asked you if you wanted to be in a pageant when you were eight months old. Regardless of anything you say, pageants exploit young children, therefore I believe they're bad.

@mickayllacaroline That's all very well and good, but i'd personally prefer to have my child compete in something that requires actual skill. Perhaps ballet, karate, or an instrument? Something that *really* teaches how hard work and determination can allow you to succeed. Contrary to what I feel (and what many others may feel) teaches young girls that they can succeed solely by wearing make up and dressing up. You can learn everything you have mentioned there, and more.
