hey can anybody answer this for me? Ok, I just purchase Cablesson 10 Feet Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable for Apple iMac for my imac but I'm not getting connected so my real question is if I need an adapter for it or not? My imac is one of the newer models i got it in 2011.

TIP:Always run an external display at NATIVE RESOLUTION!!!! This will result in the sharpest picture quality. When using mirrored mode most likely you are running at the native resolution of your PRIMARY display not your HDTV so set it to extended mode and both displays can run at their own different native resolutions!

@Meadowlandsdweller36 I don't know if this will help, but I have a mbp 2010, and I just bought the hdmi adapter, and the sound was not working, I went to settings, audio, and made the output to the tv. hope this helps.

I have a mk pro 17inch and my wife has a mk white I use the connection from mini dsplayport to HDMI like yours to give away, and then a regular HDMI cable for picture and for sound I use Toslink Audio cable the one like the regular headphones everything work perfect in my wife's MP white but when I attach both cables to my MP the picture works great but the sound doesn't work at all I tried a headphones sound works great what do I do

I guess just a Mini Displayport to HDMI connection wont provide any audio output from the external monitor. Thus an additional audio link should be set up. Right?

if i link them, how can i split the two different audio signals.

I tried to connect an acer laptop to a lcd tv with the HDMI cable, the results looked bad, it was better the vga connection than HDMI, so i don't if is the pc low quality so on the lcd the quality was bad, but i've a question:

if i connect with the cable minidisplay port to hdmi, the quality is bad or good? i think buy an apple adapter minidisplay to VGA is the best way, but i don' t know with the HDMI is better for the macbook or not, say me what you know thanks ;)

@pobletememo Yes, currently only adapter with a sperate HDMI cable can pass aidio. The Mini DP to HDMI cable itself can't pass audio.

You have got the audio wrong on the Hdmi to , mini display + toslink /3.5mm headphone.

You allways have the minidisply in, but then you either have the usb OR the 3.5mm in.

This is to get HD sound to your tv.( the 3.5 works in normal quality.)

To get HD sound you unplug the 3.5mm and plug in the usb.

Then go to system preference, then sound and change the output to USb.

HD SOUND!

This is only really usefull if you have your tv plaing through a surround sound amp.
