Mucho hits from this band, "Little Willy" and "Ballroom Blitz" are my favs but I forgot about the extended album version of this song. Most FM stations in the 70's only played the single version.
@MrOdelay72 Yes, this song sounds like ELO, I guess ELO liked the way The Sweet sounded, since The Sweet was before ELO.taking nothing away from ELO they are an awesome band.
Sweet really was a great band. Quite under-rated. I mean what kids really know about them, but they had a lot of hits. This is one of my favourite. Joan Jett actually does a pretty good cover of AC/DC - check it out.
Got the original 7" but first heard this version around 1981 on Radio Merseyside as played buy Roy Norrie. The stupid get faded it it for going on too long (what do you expect of a 12" single) but happily for long enough to record the fantastic instrumental bits betweek 4.22 and 5 minutes. The climax between 4.40-and 5.00 is fantastic and unsurpassed by anything before or since.
I think this song covers every genere of music there is in one song up to its current date of music: from a classical sound all the way to rock and disco of the era. One of the finest songs of its time
so vell is like oxygen iron chefs get so so Oval of it said anis an egg trying to slip upward with hands over inty seventy hover orgies god i'm old and forgive me

@hankCchinaski It doesn't NEED to be, but it tends to happen out of respect and love. As it hasn't, it signifies the opposite to me. It would make more sense for a iconic song like Sweet Home Alabama (whose covers are awful, but well-intended) than a basically obscure song like this one that I haven't heard on the radio since the seventies. It would bring it back into awareness, hence respect with the current generation.

This is an amazing song and SO not remembered in any "flashback" tv or radio shows now. If I've watched it once today, I've watched it 50 times....
BUT, I would also like to add:
did a little research-- always had an instinct the mullet came from Britain, eg, Def Leppard, but seems like it started earlier. *insert this vid* SO, we SOUTHERNERS are not responsible. Thank you!!! :)
The really cool thing about music is its ability to take you back to how you felt when you first heard it - the "top 40" get overplayed and your brain doesn't do it, but certain unique pieces (like this one for me) make me forget how old I really am, pain and the way life makes you feel like a overaged piece of cheese. I know these guys are old now, too, but we can both be young when I watch/listen to this great song. Thx to hakkman2007 for posting the "long" version" - long live album rock!
Great tune that I had no idea of until a few years ago and had originally thought was some sort of lost ELO song with their sound. Nothing can touch the classic rock sound even though I like many genre's of music it will always be around and inspiring future generations!
@Jgeneraledger23 Well, the boys were toys, kinda like the Monkees. Similarly, they took matters into their own hands and began to write on their own. I loved "Little Willy" when I was a kid. I loved their own stuff better when I was a teen.

No song ever sounded quite like this. This is classy classic rock. Will love this tune till the day I die. The entire album "Level Headed" is legendary. Every track is imbedded in my soul. It's like a time machine to me. It will always be 1978.
I love the intermezzo part of the piece where band does some instrumental variations. That is so very rare to listen to a group that has that freedom to experiment like that..

Re;A Previous poster- i don't think Sweet match up to Queen...in either their quantity or quality of songs..great band though..and i had completly forgotten this song.....it's so catchy ive been humming all through work the last 72hours......
i always loved this song, found it on my earphones flying over north america (fm) on board an Royal Air Force troop carrier (VC10), we were en-route to a 'Belizean disturbance'..from england jwb
@rschiel50 As ex-FM radio AOR DJ...Why AOR radio died...Affirmative Action in 70s! FM radio DJs up until then KNEW the music; programmed their own shows; had to pass test for FCC license. After AA passed stations had to hire minorities to fill quota who did not know the music or pass FCC test...so PLAYLISTS were made and test waived, to make idiots who only had "the right voice" play "hits," since they could not be trusted to pick the right songs to play. This DESTROYED AMERICAN FM RADIO! Sad.
@mc2NY Even the notion that someone decides the "right or wrong" song disturbs me....I guess I was always the person that liked the "other' songs on the album-not necessarily the requisite hits...Nowadays everything we hear on the radio is predetermined by demographics, statistics and money...it all sounds the same. My kids think I'm crazy, but I'd rather listen to my records on a turntable...But when I was their age I lived for FM radio! My how things have changed...
@mc2NY Amazing info.I'm from Boston originally.I think WCGY was the AOR station.I might be mistaken.Any how,I think they still played AOR in the 80's.Where can I learn more about the info you gave? How can we bring back great rock from the past on the radio again.Go ahead, laugh.I just think more youth should be influenced by great songs & musicianship and what this actually means.
You say Bruno Mars, I say Guns'n Roses You say Hannah Montana, I say Led Zeppelin You say Owl City, I say Metallica You say Jonas Brothers, I say Queen You say Taylor Swift, I say AC/DC You say Justin Bieber, I say Fuck You 95% of teens these days listen to the same formulaic, crappy pop over and over. If you're one of the 5% who still listens to real music, thumb this up, then copyand paste it to at least five videos. Don't let the spirit of rock and roll die!
@kenngua Although I totally agree with you, you don't gotta be a hardcore hater man. People have and always will like simple shitty poppy music. I say let em. Keep the good stuff for those who know.
@kenngua Or trend metal like listening to bands that sell t shirts at hot topic in the shopping malls.. Or the lil bastards that hang out at guitar center.. ha! They are misguided but their humble ignorance is kinda cool after youve bashed on their guitar playing GnR 'slosh' metalica death metal tshirts, are actually quite plesant to talk with and very receptive to playing little wing, tough lil bastards sometimes, i cant walk into the guitarded center without fuckin with em ha!
what a tune but i thought this came off desolation blvd. a lot of the forgotten 70s music cant get air play on today's junk radio damn I miss those days people were happy and most of us were well off enough to do whatever we wanted without government interference now its all about drug test discrimination and how much money you've got and stupid gangsta (c)rap
This band was the perfect combination of Supertramp, Queen and Roxy Music. They were all weaned on Classical Music and it shows. These days are very sad, they can't even sing a major scale.
got every one of there albums .seen them live many times . ace .... wot is todays music compared to this ??? bollocks , thats wot ... give me a time machine ...PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@MsRuth02 It is indeed a great song - and The Sweet were a great band (they were certainly much more talented than the rock media gave them credit for). The same was true of Mud and The Bay City Rollers.
It always makes me laugh when I hear people say Sweet sounds a lot like (insert random band) The fact is that those bands sound like Sweet. Sweet was first and they had some influence over other emerging bands. Certain similarities can be heard in older Queen songs because they both had the same guy as a producer at one point. Def Leppard covered "Action" when they were at their peak.
makes me feel alive when i play this groups music wish i could back in time

@hankCchinaski It doesn't NEED to be, but it tends to happen out of respect and love. As it hasn't, it signifies the opposite to me. It would make more sense for a iconic song like Sweet Home Alabama (whose covers are awful, but well-intended) than a basically obscure song like this one that I haven't heard on the radio since the seventies. What ever happened to AOR??
rschiel50 5 months ago
@rschiel50 As ex-FM radio AOR DJ...Why AOR radio died...Affirmative Action in 70s! FM radio DJs up until then KNEW the music; programmed their own shows; had to pass test for FCC license. After AA passed stations had to hire minorities to fill quota who did not know the music or pass FCC test...so PLAYLISTS were made and test waived, to make idiots who only had "the right voice" play "hits," since they could not be trusted to pick the right songs to play. This DESTROYED AMERICAN FM RADIO! Sad.
mc2NY 5 months ago

They must have influenced ELO (electric light orchestra) & Queen.

Keep the good stuff for those who know.
sweetXroll 3 months ago
@kenngua Or trend metal like listening to bands that sell t shirts at hot topic in the shopping malls.. Or the lil bastards that hang out at guitar center.. ha! They are misguided but their humble ignorance is kinda cool after youve bashed on their guitar playing GnR 'slosh' metalica death metal tshirts, are actually quite plesant to talk with and very receptive to playing little wing, tough lil bastards sometimes, i cant walk into the guitarded center without fuckin with em ha!

what a tune but i thought this came off desolation blvd. a lot of the forgotten 70s music cant get air play on today's junk radio damn I miss those days people were happy and most of us were well off enough to do whatever we wanted without government interference now its all about drug test discrimination and how much money you've got and stupid gangsta (c)rap
oneeye4263 5 months ago
This band was the perfect combination of Supertramp, Queen and Roxy Music. They were all weaned on Classical Music and it shows. These days are very sad, they can't even sing a major scale.

so they say size does not matter lol but it does in the case of this song with it being a 12" long version such a great song by a great band
MsRuth02 5 months ago 3
@MsRuth02 It is indeed a great song - and The Sweet were a great band (they were certainly much more talented than the rock media gave them credit for). The same was true of Mud and The Bay City Rollers.
God rest Brian Connolly's soul.

LOVE IS LIKE OXYGEN ,IS MY FAV SONG BY THE SWEET ,ALSO ADMIRED BRIAN CONNOLLY,S HAIR

I've actually seen Sweet, though most of the original members weren't there. Problem is that I was too young to realize who they were.
