  • You never see Fred, Barney or Wilma on TV anymore. I think they all died of lung cancer

  • Bang each other wifes then have a cig. now that would be banned.

  • O.o

  • Hey, this video caused me to start smoking... and now I have lung cancer!! Ooo, I'm NOW I'm gonna sue the flinstones AND Winston!!

  • gawd..they make that cig sound like heroin!!!

  • Just had a winston before watching this, I see Fred and Barney have good taste.

  • hard to believe that used to be legal... now they are required by law to advertise AGAINST their own product- and it still sells,

  • Winston. Da

  • I remember watching this on Prime Time ... lol. And I never became a smoker. Despite? Because? Not relevant? Who knows...

  • Wilma smoked!? Omg!

  • im a smoker now thanks to the flintstones!

  • This was NEVER BANNED. Tobacco and Cereal companies had TONS of this promo product inserts in lots of Primetime TV programs during the family hour in the day. Smoking and DRINKING was considered OK back then which was probably the dastardly plan of tobacco companies all along. But back then NOBODY cared...it was NORMAL.

  • Awesome upload. Wilma and Betty are workin' there asses off. I love it. Fred and Barney takin' a break. Life is good.

  • a Flintstones christmas how could it be christmas jesus wasn' t born yet

  • @themoviecrtic911 What a prolific observation....... I think Christmas is up your ass mushbrain. Why dont go you feel for it

  • how could there be TV in there time

  • Everyone keep failing to realize back then The Flintsones used to be a primetime sitcom.

  • Now I wanna see Spongebob advertising vodka and Micky selling condoms.

  • @glitchedgamer and winnie pooh smoking blunts.. :P

  • My,how times have changed

  • heh, now you never see cartoon characters advertisment adult intended products, latest commercial I seen the Flinstones (not featuring their Pebbles Cereal) was the Midas Mufflers store

  • Reminds me of my grandparents home, LOL.

  • You got that right....

  • Hah, funnier than hell!

  • That is awesome

  • LOL, this commercial wasn't banned, it's just not 1961 anymore.

  • The holy sacrelige of those suggesting a PRODUCT change its name in service of a cartoon is not well understood by worker ants. The Flintstones isn't a show for adults or for kids -- its a platform for advertisers and Product placement, period.

  • "I got a BETTER idea, let's take a WINSTON break!" ROFL

  • Holy crap!!!

  • I'd much rather see The Flintstones endorse Winston over as The Rock would put it "A Big Tacky Colorful Bowl of FRUITY PEBBLES!!!"

  • Years before this Doctors were touting the positive effects of smoking, as a relaxing, stress reducing behavior.

  • win-stone !! thats funny shit man........!!

  • "I hate to see them work so hard. "

"Yea me too...let's go around back where we can't see them"

    Funny as hell

  • Why as this banned? those were the days when the Marlboro man was still popular

  • how did the oxycotton get in my Flinstones vitamins?

  • HEY, SERIOUSLY... WTF??!! CAN'T BELIEVE THEY WOULD USE THESE POPULAR CARTOONS FOR THIS CRAP..."UP FRONT"??

  • These days, they'd ban the Flintstones because Fred's too obese, and that might send the wrong message to children.

  • @owg59 fred's Obese? look what he ate 1 A full slab of bronto ribs.. ..etc and he sat around that's why

    instead of walking he drove

  • It's funny that they endorse vitamins now.....

  • "... up front where it counts" Say what? Snuck that one in there.

  • Winston gives you cancer good like a cigarette would.

  • @biguy617 watch teh movie peggy sue got married... in the film peggy & her sister are watching American BAndstand

peggy's sister reaches for a bowl ofull of M&ms

Peggy says :" Don't eat any of the red ones." her sister" Why?"

Peggy ( not bieng able to tell her sister that red dye # 5 causes cancer) says" They give you red lips."

BAck then they didn't know that things like cigarettes& dye are cargenagines

  • No wonder they banned this commercial. Characters adored children smoking. They don't want kids to smoke and get cancer.

  • @biguy617..."The Flintstones" wasn't for kids originally. It was aimed at adults. It came on in a weekday primetime slot. When they syndicated it years later that's when it was aimed at kids.

  • @TheSkete ohhh, that explains it.

  • @TheSkete wasn't the flintstones base on the Honeymooners?

  • @Freyja1133...That's right. It was just a cartoon version of that popular show.

  • Now all they advertise is cereal. weak.

  • This was before anyone knew (or cared) that smoking caused lung cancer and other health problems . . . so it was cool. I don't smoke but it makes me want to light up. LOL!

  • lmao

  • lmao

  • I am against cartoons trying to advertise alcohol and cigs HOWEVER, the Flinstones were made to be an adult show. So, I'm still against it but see where they feel that they are not doing anything wrong.

  • And now we know what killed all the dinosaurus!

  • Shouldn't that be Win-Stone cigarettes?

  • @dmj1965 It doesnt matter this is crazy!

  • @dmj1965 no because it was a parody aimed to the cigarettes mark : "Winston". ..WinStone has never existed.

  • Is this where I had the thought of smoking Winstons when I grew up? My father smoked Camels and my mother Salems. I suppose we'd have kept Reynolds in business!

  • does the baby smoke too?

  • you know they were rolling big fatties of yabba dabba doooo!

  • Childhood ruined

  • @DylanMcDonalds Yeah, a part of me died a little inside watching this too, but at the time, cartoons weren't directed to children, so they could advertise whatever they wanted.

  • 23 people don't taste good like a cigarette should

  • Anyone else get a boner when Fred lit Wilma's smoke?

  • Wow ... Cigarettes and the Flintstones look so ridiculously out of place that it's hysterical!

  • see cigarettes are bad for your health

    oh just the men

  • betty is so hott.

  • Fuck That Cigarette Commercial !

  • I actually remember seeing some of these, they were being played well into the 70's before they took them off the air.

  • See, now why does Fred get mad when Barney takes his pebbles, Barney gave him a got dam cigarette, not many friends do that

  • using kid's shows to advertise the most leading cause of death PRICELESS

  • @barneysgonnafindyou The Flintstones was a primetime show and wasnt just a kids show. Akin to the simpsons today

  • This commercial, along with many others, was part of a CD compilation entitled "TV Commercials of the 50s and 60s."released in the early 90s that I still have. Great stuff before the beginnings of PC advertising and government constraints entered the picture in a big way.

Speaking of cig ads, the ban on TV cigarette ads was imposed in 1971.

  • that's nothing, I have a full page ad from an old Life magazine about how more doctors smoke Camels than any other cigarette.

  • that would be so politically incorrectlike on 20 things today. btw winstons suck.

  • drugstones its the drugstones...

  • Why was this banned? Sexism?

Those ciggies aren't as bad for you as Pebbles cereal was...

  • @jigen08 FCC banned cigarette ads on TV because shows like Flintstones (being a cartoon marketed for kids) were sending the wrong message. Wanted to help limit underage smoking.

  • @jigen08 They still make them if you want to take a walk down memory lane, just keep a barf bag handy.

  • @jigen08 because "The Flintstones" is a cartoon for kids. this commercial supports smoking of cigarettes.

  • @PETKKKO That's like saying the Simpsons is a cartoon for kids.

  • @AndrePrior Both shows are for kids and adults, each show has underlining humor that the children wont understand, but also has humor that are completely obvious which is for the children

  • @PETKKKO

I hope you all realize that The Flinstones was never originally meant to be a children cartoon. The first two seasons (which were aired around the time of this commercial) were not kid oriented.

  • @HappyRadio3000 i kno its a comedy show like the simpsons... however it was on air every morning , and all of the times when most of children watch cartoons, AND THE FLINTSTONES WAS VERY POPULAR ON THE KIDS CHANNEL "CARTOON NETWORK" ,, so, the cartoon wasnt meant FOR kids , but it sure was presented TO kids.

  • @PETKKKO Relax. It was meant for kids. There wasn't any hidden meaning to it back then.

  • @PETKKKO In 1961 it was aired on primetime would be considered an adult sitcom

  • @jigen08 You can't mean that...Pebbles didn't give you lung cancer.

  • flinSTONERS

  • could u imagine how people would bitch today if they made an ad using cartoons to sell smokes or grog i seen an ad were the flintstones were selling beer

  • I remember Barney & Fred smoking. Remember, the Flintstones was supposed to be "the first cartoon for adults." A take off of The Honeymooners. I'd like to see them knock back a couple of Budweisers, too.

  • Yeah Winston thanks a lot. Giving cancer since 1961.

  • obama is going to die... this week !!! i have a bomb in my anus and it's to due explode in 2 days

  • more people die from obesity related diseases than tobacco related diseases so why don't they ban fast food commercials to, oh i bet you nazis like that huh ???

  • @lowaces

    Wrong...

  • @lowaces

Your information is tainted since a high percentage of obese people smoke also. The way the ignorant masses hurt themselves...

  • Shouldn't they be called Winstone Cigarettes?

  • Can you imagine that? I know it probably happened, as they did not "see" a wrong that was done to the future generations back then.. But now we can see that it was so deeply wrong to sponsor a cartoon with cigarettes! Wow!

  • im not letting my kids see the flinstones anymore

  • I would take the nap.

  • Winston. Cigarette of choice since 80 million BC.

  • I'm glad to see back in the day a cartoon could be sponsored by a cigarette company just for the fact that society wasn't trying to conceal something that over 14,000,000 americans do everyday.......call it ignorance or call it stupid endorsement......either way glad to see it

  • oh my I have a box of Pebbles in my kitchen :O

  • Damn now I want Winston ciggerates

  • This is so un-Politically Correct that it's just plain awesome!

  • Now remember folks back in the early 60's the Flintstones like a lot of cartoons were Prime- Time and were sponsored by companies like Winston and Alka-Seltzer and live Saturday morning shows such as Skye King, My Friend Flicka, etc... were sponsored by the cerial companies

  • @poshpaulie Actually at the time the Flintstones were the first and only cartoon on primetime. Other primetime cartoons didn't come along until later. And you're not really making any amazing revelations since it's common knowledge that advertisers will buy commercial slots with programming that correlates to their intended demographic. And this is a practice continued to this day, I'm not sure why you think it died with the 60's.

  • These commercials are more addicting than cigarettes them self.

  • ive got this crazy sensational urge to go out and smoke cigarettes hmmmmmmm

  • OMG....is this for real???lol

  • Wow.... that is so bad!

  • lets go toke up a fatty and laugh and watch em work barney!

  • Ahh the hypocrisy. They should ban McDonald commercials because their high fat foods contribute to heart disease.

  • lol and now they represent a cereal

  • Maybe, its A banned TV episode

  • thats Not right at all and plus its on a kids channel?

  • When the show came out it was on ABC Primetime just like the Simpsons and Family Guy now

  • no not realy

  • look how big the cigarettes are next to them

  • What is next... Teletubbies brought to you by Jack Daniels?

  • soon the Teletubbies

are gonna advertise trogan condoms lol

  • That is fucked up

  • was this part of the show or just an ad?

  • This makes me want to smoke.

  • today in school im in 5th grade we had a program called dare and we was talking about smoking and this police officer showed us this commercial

  • All cigarette commercials were banned.

  • LOL

  • YABBA-DABBA- *cough* *cough* *wheeze*

  • @stevenizback rofl

  • I just had a Winston and said the tagline to my friends. It resulted in a lively round of high fives.

  • lmao

  • that Ciggs huge

  • Barney: "Hate to see em work so hard"

Fred: "Yea, let's go around back where we don't have to see em"

    LOL

  • what everyone forgets is that shows like Flintstones were NEVER intended as children's entertainment. It was simply the animated version of the Honeymooners

  • actually....it was ONLY intended for children. They didn't know the risks of smoking, or just didn't wanna know.

  • Not so. I remember hearing reports of cancer being caused by second hand smoke when I was 9 in 1961. I once even told me dad that his smoke was probably hurting us as much as him. He didn't say anything - he was a doctor. I remember these Flinstone Winston commercials. In fact, we played with their jingle - "Winston tastes bad like the one I just had, no flavor no taste, just a 40 cent waste."

  • Yet all us kids couldn't wait to watch it every Friday night. And later on, The Twilight Zone.

Most of the kids cartoons in those days had adult asides that kids missed but they got the up front kid entertainment anyway and it helped the parents cope with having to watch cartoons. See, people usually only had one tv in their homes.

  • they played this at the Beatles Tribute Band concert. The band is called Rain

  • Oh man now I want a Winston!

  • Interesting but I'm glad it was banned. I agree with 40yoboarder!

  • So much for "Don't smoke, kids!"

  • That's so Bad! LOL!

  • wilma smoking...that's SO hot...

  • lol, the cigs did not fit into the rest of the commercial

  • i just sang the song with Fred at the end. i barely remember the commercials (in mid 40's) salem cigarettes was "you can take salem out of the country BUT you can't take the country out of salem"along with the marlboro man. "come to where the flavor is come to marlboro country"

  • lol, 4Kids would have a heart attack if they saw this.

  • Just imagine, Fred, Barney and Wilma trailing an oxygen tank behind them.

  • AWESOME COMMERCIAL!!

  • This is better than their brand of vitamins.

  • im allergic to, out of all the things in this world, Flinstones vitamins.

  • Uh hey Fred I just won something from the doctor. He told me I won a carcinoma!

  • I'm smoking now and having wine. Yummy. What a combo. I guess we need to picket our rights like Gays, Lesbians and Abortionist. Man, the Gays are in for a real riot. Can you imagine they want to marry. When they find out what we have to go through for a divorce, they will think twice! or maybe as females, they know what they are doin! lol

  • If you did a bit of history research on the Flintstones you will learn that the show was NOT originally intended for children. It was a prime time adult sitcom much like what the Simpsons and Family Guy are today. Thus more than likely this was NOT a banned commercial, but one that actually aired. When the Flinstones were re-run for Saturday family and children viewing, most likely this commercial would NOT have been aired. The Flintstones became children oriented much later on.

  • .... sorry i did not research The Flintstones before my comment was made. It was just a joke that was all. I removed it. Sorry again for any problem i may have caused you junkingeo

  • No No Tiny, I am not angry or anything. I just am pointing out (to the reading public) that The Flintstones was not the children's program you come to know today. It was originally a prime time show and most likely that commercial DID air. So I am not aiming my comment solely at you (alone) but also stating that this was probably NOT a banned commercial. The commercial is B&W thus giving away it's age, it was created around the time of The Flintstones original inception.

  • If you do a search for the Flintstones Wiki and pull it up, scroll down to the bottom B&W pictures on the right hand side. Yes, it does show a picture of the very ad posted above. The commercial DID air, but it was later pulled in 1971 when a GENERAL ban was issued on cigarette ads in TV programs, so not JUST the Flintstones ad was affected. Also to note of interest, The Flintstones was ABC's first series to be broadcast in color.

  • It originally aired nationally on Friday nights - prime time and everyone watched it, adults and children. We saw the cigarrette commercials all the time, and every brand had a jingle or macho dude like Lee Marvin (Pall Mall) featured. It was normal life.

But I think your "research" claim is fairly dubious. Thank goodness some of us survived from that period to straighten you out.

    Give me a break....

  • those were the rumors at the time about smoking....now we know better. I feel a sense of passion in this subject considering you replied 3 times within 10 min. Good for you....keep up the good work.

  • I wanna smoke!

    Jabba daba do!

  • personally i roll my own.

  • that's the way to do it.

  • Yeah, If you don't roll em, you're losing

  • WOW! I think I'll go get a pack of Winstons. Taste good, like a cigarette should!

  • At 0:39, Look it's the Flinstoners!

  • I thought they only had unfiltered cigarettes in the stone age.

...whats with Alan Reed's tone-deaf singing at the end?

  • Remember the little gadget Laredo where you could make a cig with the filter? late 60s.

  • this was never banned - it was on tv...

  • yeah then it got banned

  • @4737carlin no actually it didn't....the flinstones just switched sponsors....

  • @4737carlin it didn't got banned, the creators of the series decided to change they´e investors into a more child focused brand, after pebbles was born

  • haha, good one.

  • Needless to say that I WILL buy a Winston pack tomorrow....
