@ziberteck It's not a joke video... It's a choreographed fight, they knew how each other fought, other wise they wouldn't use real weapons... Grabbing the spear would end with you being in an uncomfortable position leaving you open to be countered. Sure disarming is great, but you must time everything correctly, or you end up being burned.

Needs a bit of work and their stances need to be lower. Other than that...most of their moves are of practical use. When a person and/or weapon spins (Sometimes behind one's back) it's to generate energy....and sometimes change the angle of attack.
Most Northern stylists have their left hand in front on their spear or staff. The reverse for Southern practioners. Choy Lay Fut....which is a combination of N and S styles....can have either hand in front.

spear can never beat long sword or 2 hand short sword. just because spear is design to fight against mounted soldiers. when on ground spear has many weakness against a person wearing armor. because the only way to hurt that armor person is to hit him with that small blade at the tip. using any other place on spear will not do damage an armored infantry from head to toe. in war u wont have much space and time to use swing and slice and perform stances with spear.

Having a spear means keeping sword fighters at a distance. And a spear isn't JUST designed to fight anything. There are many shapes and types all over the world, used for different things. And war isn't all for show. A proper stance helps, but any stance that takes significant time to adopt is obviously flashy and shouldn't be used for battle anyway.
thrust will work if the guy holding a sword is a dummy. imagine if you thrust that person in war that person is like okay thrust me please i let you thrust. sword on the other hand can slash and can do all the other motion spear cannot do on foot. spear best use on cavalry or against cavalry no question. 2 handed swords are very powerful especially chopping off your wooden spear. if u hold a all steel spear it is too heavy to thrust accurately and no flexibility and lost all spear's advantages.
@Myoldnamesdontwork You've obviously never used a spear before. Pick up a spear and spar, then try to look at the actions you perform. If you can't slash, something is wrong with you. Good spear-men can maintain themselves and fight fluently. A metal spear also has great flexibility. It's only downside is being heavier makes it slower. Swords are faster and less exhausting, but if two evenly matched people fight each other, the spear gives the advantage, having better reach and blockability.
u can definitely use the slash motion but think about physics it has more "speed" but lacks in density or thickness in blade making it a weaker agaisnt armor. like arrow head design (i know spear is not small) sword on the other hand ur blade should be thicker and once you swing it is over. spear has longer reach but in war u will usually form a line of spear making u have less space to swing that long thing and not hit ur allies. unless the guy hold sword foolishly run into u can only thrust.
@Myoldnamesdontwork Well, in a war, you have to take into account the position of allies and enemies. There isn't much 1 on 1 fighting there. One can construct a heavy spear to help pierce through armor, if need be, but that will obviously slow the user down a bit. Spear lines are usually just for the initial charge in battle, or charge on approach. After that, the troops are running all over the place, which can make spears hard to use if you're not paying attention to your surroundings.
spears charges are only useful against full speed cavalry charges. otherwise it has not a lot of power in its thrust. plus u dont run around usually siege or defend cities fights takes place in gate or on walls guess what those are tight spaces. on open ground cavalry "archers" like mongols gorilla warfare. even if u use melee troops even in modern stick with their "squad" or general/captain sitting and viewing from the hill can't control. mongols use it to cause panic.katana>yari>cavalry>katana

It needs polishing, but I think a lot of that is actually VERY well done. I think some of the flourishes are just a bit too much, though. :15 for example... way too much. :36 also a bit too much. Otherwise, it's a good exchange, functional movements... just needs repetition to smooth out. Only other thing I noticed is that the spearman didn't seem balanced properly. Even when attacking, he seemed to be leaning back a bit which makes for a awkward attack.

These guys obviously have a hec of a good degree of control over theze weapons. It openly states that their doing it for show, not acuracy, so lets not bash them for poor poses, stances, etc. I train with a jo staff principly for the flashy moves, and the lad with the spear is doing a blody good job : ) Well done!

Needs a bit of work and their stances need to be lower. Other than that...most of their moves are of practical use. When a person and/or weapon spins (Sometimes behind one's back) it's to generate energy....and sometimes change the angle of attack.
Most Northern stylists have their left hand in front on their spear or staff. The reverse for Southern practioners. Choy Lay Fut....which is a combination of N and S styles....can have either hand in front.

spear can never beat long sword or 2 hand short sword. just because spear is design to fight against mounted soldiers. when on ground spear has many weakness against a person wearing armor. because the only way to hurt that armor person is to hit him with that small blade at the tip. using any other place on spear will not do damage an armored infantry from head to toe. in war u wont have much space and time to use swing and slice and perform stances with spear.

Having a spear means keeping sword fighters at a distance. And a spear isn't JUST designed to fight anything. There are many shapes and types all over the world, used for different things. And war isn't all for show. A proper stance helps, but any stance that takes significant time to adopt is obviously flashy and shouldn't be used for battle anyway.

thrust will work if the guy holding a sword is a dummy. imagine if you thrust that person in war that person is like okay thrust me please i let you thrust. sword on the other hand can slash and can do all the other motion spear cannot do on foot. spear best use on cavalry or against cavalry no question. 2 handed swords are very powerful especially chopping off your wooden spear. if u hold a all steel spear it is too heavy to thrust accurately and no flexibility and lost all spear's advantages.

@Myoldnamesdontwork You've obviously never used a spear before. Pick up a spear and spar, then try to look at the actions you perform. If you can't slash, something is wrong with you. Good spear-men can maintain themselves and fight fluently. A metal spear also has great flexibility. It's only downside is being heavier makes it slower. Swords are faster and less exhausting, but if two evenly matched people fight each other, the spear gives the advantage, having better reach and blockability.

u can definitely use the slash motion but think about physics it has more "speed" but lacks in density or thickness in blade making it a weaker agaisnt armor. like arrow head design (i know spear is not small) sword on the other hand ur blade should be thicker and once you swing it is over. spear has longer reach but in war u will usually form a line of spear making u have less space to swing that long thing and not hit ur allies. unless the guy hold sword foolishly run into u can only thrust.

@Myoldnamesdontwork Well, in a war, you have to take into account the position of allies and enemies. There isn't much 1 on 1 fighting there. One can construct a heavy spear to help pierce through armor, if need be, but that will obviously slow the user down a bit. Spear lines are usually just for the initial charge in battle, or charge on approach. After that, the troops are running all over the place, which can make spears hard to use if you're not paying attention to your surroundings.

spears charges are only useful against full speed cavalry charges. otherwise it has not a lot of power in its thrust. plus u dont run around usually siege or defend cities fights takes place in gate or on walls guess what those are tight spaces. on open ground cavalry "archers" like mongols gorilla warfare. even if u use melee troops even in modern stick with their "squad" or general/captain sitting and viewing from the hill can't control. mongols use it to cause panic.katana>yari>cavalry>katana

It needs polishing, but I think a lot of that is actually VERY well done. I think some of the flourishes are just a bit too much, though. :15 for example... way too much. :36 also a bit too much. Otherwise, it's a good exchange, functional movements... just needs repetition to smooth out. Only other thing I noticed is that the spearman didn't seem balanced properly. Even when attacking, he seemed to be leaning back a bit which makes for a awkward attack.

These guys obviously have a hec of a good degree of control over theze weapons. It openly states that their doing it for show, not acuracy, so lets not bash them for poor poses, stances, etc. I train with a jo staff principly for the flashy moves, and the lad with the spear is doing a blody good job : ) Well done!

you dont know a thing about spear and sword combat.
1 Spears were used for thursting(mainly) or(sometimes)cutting with the tip. .
2 Spinning around just leaves you open and tires you .sensless and dangerous.
3 You never leave your arms staright when using a sword unless you want it broken.
4 The swordsman had about 6 opportuniies to thurst in. He used none.
So this was completely irreal.
