  • There was a guy riding on the crane itself who controlled (steered) the wheel sets. It is all done hydraulically. There is a small gas powered hydraulic power unit riding on the crane also.

  • Thank you for your video.

    Interesting.

Who turns the sets of wheels?

Are the tires purposely not fully inflated or are they at maximum pressure for the weight?

  • where they made this is the start of railway

  • nice to see this was saved for future generations to be seen and heard , its not just engines that must be saved its all the different rolling stock as well.

  • 1947 wow,

Thats amazing thanks for this upload!

does your museum have one of these already on display?

  • what rail road owned this previously? and what will will it be re-painted to?

  • Yes, I am a museum member and one of the two guys working on the crane. We hope to install a ner boom in the next week or so and then we can get serious about cleaning it up and painting it and returning it to service.

  • Nice. Are you a museum volunteer?

  • There were two trucks, one pulling and one pushing. There were also two loaders, one pulling the front truck and the other on the right side of the front truck. They were hauling the crane up a pretty steep hill. If you look close you will note that there are pieces of steel plate stacked above the fifth wheel on the truck to provide traction. They needed a lot of power to haul the weight up the hill.

  • why is the loader pulling the truck

  • because that mofo is heavy! lol
