  • A blessing to have seen them in person during our homecoming dance or lyceum series at Knoxville College (1967 or 68). Even more special that my GRANDMOTHER Doll said she thought of me when she heard 'Jimmy Mack.' Great memories.

  • so looking forward to seeing Martha on sunday in Glasgow

  • God, I love the bass kicking in at the first verse. So good

  • iam getting super amped listening to this and its not even that type of song. i want to trash my room.

  • wish i had a man called jimmy

  • there is something 'innocent' about motown which cannot be manufactured

    amen to that.

  • first music i got into was Tamla Motowm , big thank u to older bro/sister then moved on to the N.Soul ,, Thest two are the only kind of music i could listen to 24/7

  • Great song. I predict it will be a hit. There should be a million views by now.

  • If you like Motown songs see my blog about Motown

  • Thank you for uploading this. Great job on the video.

  • Oraleeee firmee rola@.@

  • Something about females harmonizing vocally. Chills.

  • It's not just that this song is so catchy. it has undertones of melancholy that are so achingly bittersweet.

    Superb.

  • @Lytton333 perfect description

  • this is a classic...god bless Martha Reeves & the Vandellas!!!!

  • Oh, the memories of jiving to this with my mates at the Co-Op Hall in Catford SE LOndon :D

  • this song so reminds me of my wonderful childhood trips to the beach with my mom, dad and sibs...I swear I get endorphins in my brain when I hear this song.....crazy but true!

  • Nothing like Motown. Doesn't matter how old you are, doesn't matter what color--this stuff is just good music.

  • I've been hooked on Tamla Motown since mid 60's,and I find it still excites me. This is one of my favourites.

  • my dads name was Jimmy. Rest in peace dad :'/ <3

  • LOVE this song! My dad had cassettes out of the "wazoo" of Motown tracks. Reminds me of my childhood.

  • REAL music....

  • I LOVE MOTOWN <3

  • I LOVE MOTOWN!

  • Better than Lady Gaga, any day :)

  • Comment removed

  • How so? Im just curious

  • @danthemanh Well, although Lady Gaga puts the effort into writing her own songs, they still sound cheap and manufactured. But, this is REAL music we are listening to right here. Good day to you :)

  • Love the motown sound. Boy these ladies could sing. Awesome!

  • my name is actually Jimmy Mack, was named after this

  • the truth

  • its mine and my nephew James song!!! Miss you little Buddy!!

  • FIVE people don't like Jimmy Mack? Shame on you guys.............

  • I find myself coming back to this VID, again and again. It really has the "feel" of the time, such a great beat from a great group. Dancing In The Streets, Nowhere To Run, Heatwave ~ all just terrific songs from my youth. In 1967 my girlfriend and I danced an "accelerated" mash potato to Jimmy Mack and it was so much fun. I can honestly say that Martha Reeves & The Vandellas helped to make my 1960's youth (graduated H.S. in '65) the BEST! Thank you Martha, for all the great times! :)

  • SO MANY HITS BY THESE TALENTED LADIES

  • Martha Reeves & The Vandellas... LADIES, Thank You for the great songs & the memories growing up in Brooklyn and Queens, NYC.

  • I'm 15 and i love all the old music like this

    JJIIMMMYYYY MACK!!!

  • one of the best songs of all time

  • heatwave and jimmy mack are both bangers. the vandellas open notes are always the most soulful part of there whole song

  • This track is medecine to the soul.

  • I remember seeing them at the Apollo just before I had to go to the Nam in 67 when this was becoming a hit.

  • Wow if i close my eyes i can see my mom singing n dancing to this in our kitchen when i was a kid, 1 of my favorite memories of her (smile)

  • @kandy626 hahahah I hear you bro..

  • I'm a Jimmy, but a lot of women have said "Jimmy...Jimmy don't you come back"

  • Motown sound is forever. I just love everything from it. It produced great singers of all times

  • Rejected in 1964 and then released in 67 and becomes a smash hit wow it goes to show that not even the record companies can predict what the public wants.

  • i worn the grooves off this record doing the Bop in philly,,,,such good times .

  • cool

  • "Jimmy Mack I wanna my knickers back" I fondly remember this song from my school disco days! Brilliant motown song

  • Ain't nothin like the soulful sounds of the legends... I just wish artists today would come even close to this beautiful art, in both quality and vocal artistry. No matter what anyone says, this era all the way to the 90s was when music was music. Music hasn't been worth too much of anything since, just my humble opinion though.

  • @poetryselite . I agree. In my opinion most of today's music is trash, either sad sorry "covers" or straight up sleaze.

  • I wish he would come back...

  • love this-love motown

  • im a total motwon freak at 13. i love it so much. i have lots of cds of martha reeves. The supremes, Diana Ross etc. i love just grooving around to them :)

  • @liMissrockchik09 im exactly the same but ive just turned 12 ;Dxxx

  • @liMissrockchik09 its great to see the new generation of soulies coming through , my 4 year old well into it you should see her dance lol :0

  • great to dance to reminds me of allnighters

  • Uqqhhhh...listenin too this sonqq brings bakk soo many memories of when i was a little kid..i was like 5 and my grandmother Janie Mae Crawford would bump this on her record player soo many times throuqhout the day to where I was sinqinq it in my sleep!!!! I mean she played this sonqq for everything!! cookin, cleanin, sewing, hey..even having a few drinks wit sum old friends....and for sum reason I was born in '97 and it make me think of the '60 lol...imiss her soo much..R.I.P granny..ilu so much

  • This has always reminded me of my brother. RIP Jimmy. xxx

  • Pretty crazy "quality control" held this back. It's one of the best tracks from the classic Motown era, not to mention that its the marvelous Martha Reeves and the Vandellas. Nutty...

  • @johnfright

not sure if it was motown but smoky robinsons tears of a clown was held back too until a fan in England insisted they release it!

  • yes I love me some old school Motown music....

  • Yeah! I'm cruisin down memory lane :D

  • Wait -up....Let me get my skates !!!!!! ;-)

  • A great classic! Never fails to put a smile on my face and get my feet tapping!

  • Easy england, If you knew anything about the record business, you would know it's not when it was recorded but when it was released, 3 yrs. later, not acc. to me but to background info on Jimmy Mack. Stop bothering me over a triviality that you are making an issue.

enough already, who gives a shit about your recording chronology? i've got bigger fish to fry. Leave me the f... alone!

  • popcorn oldie's the best!!!

  • this is a classic, moderately-tempoed cha-cha. Great

  • well, my brother heard Jimmy Mack live at Temple in '67, so ther were undertones of vietnam that held up song 3 yrs.

  • Addison Groove

  • i sing this to my friend jimmy all the time lol

  • Motown Quality Control had high standards

  • High School would have sucked more without Martha and all the Motown music.

  • This music. The GREATEST EVER.

  • classic catchyness.

  • My last name is Mack. <3

  • @Umishiru ....and.....?

  • @chatham43 your quite rude.

  • omg after this was played at craigshill social ( a part of livingston scotland ) i was called as jimmy mac so this song got a lot of special memory's

  • jimmy mack is my bestfriends great uncle.

  • I bet my friends wouldn't even know what this song is.

  • we played this song and i had a sax solo for 16 bars...... crowd loved it

  • A #1 hit for Martha and The Vandellas on the Rhythm & Blues charts. It was the 158th #1 R&B song of the Rock Era. It also hit #10 on the Top 40 charts. One of the greatest vocal groups of all time. Sad that they don't make music like this anymore.

  • cooley high!!

  • happy birthday martha 70 years old 18 7 2011

  • this song reminds me of the 60's which is interesting cuz i was born in the 80's

  • So much for Motown's quality control office rejects. This is fabulous.

  • I love the background singing on the part where the lead goes " Jimmy... Jimmy.. Oh, Jimmy Mack, When are you comin' back..." That's the Vandella's right? Damn!

  • This is my brother's song Love ya Jimmy Mac!

  • MEMORIES

  • its NAM not NOM

  • " 4 people didn't like this video????? I thought they sang like Angels!! If I may get away a little bit of "racism" here,.. NOBODY CAN SING OR HARMONIZE LIKE BLACK PEOPLE!!! Beautiful!!

  • My favorite all the Martha & The Vandellas recordings and that includes Nowhere To Run, Nowhere To Hide ~ Dancing In The Streets and Heatwave!

  • I remember this song back in the day, when I was a little girl growing up in the hood!! What a nice trip back down memory lane!! Thank you. :)

  • This song was running in my head so I had to hear it! lol

  • SUPERBE !

  • this song just has that groove where u wanna grab a girl and just dance allnight long

  • I USED TO SPIN THIS WHEN I WAS DJ-ING...I ALWAYS GOT ASKED FOR THE AMAZING 'B' SIDE OF ''THIRD FINGER LEFT HAND''. CLASSIC DANCER

  • stupid question did "jimmy mack" go to nom or just leave her?

  • @funnyrusty55 I THINK LEAVE HER

  • jimmy mack you bettha hurry back jimmy jimmy oh jimmy mack when are you coming back

  • Martha Reeves is THE hottest motowner

  • Martha Reeves was THE hottest motowner

  • My personal favourite song of all time.

  • Remeber when calling someone on the phone 3 times a day was considered excessive?

  • @nauort23 - Amen to that :-)

  • Three persons used to work at Motown's quality control.

  • Jimmy Mack. HA!!! That's an old nigga name!!! "My name Jimmy Mack from Detroit City"

  • I have always loved this song, from the first time I heard it. And I loved Martha & The Vandellas more than any of the other "girl groups". I heard it said that Diana had the Supremes because they were Supreme, and The Marvelettes were, what else, marvelous. But Martha and her girls were from the bad 'patch of town, so Martha had female vandals, thus Martha and the Vandella's!! And the Laura Nyro version is beyond good, it's been Nyro-ized, and I'm sure Martha would approve.

  • My name is Jimmy McC! Woop!

  • Ohhhhh godbless these absolutely phenomenal ladies!!!

  • I remember walking down the hall at school singing this song. Wow has it been that long?

  • check out laura nyro's version of this. its a great cover. quite similar but well worth a play

  • one of the vandellas' boyfriend was jimmy m.,went to vietnam in '67-'68 so song was dedicated to him in vietnam.

  • @playboatify How is that possible when the song was written in 1964?????

  • My Mm used to sing this song to my ex bf w/ his name instead. His name is Emery Jack lol.

  • Comment removed

  • Who are the three who disliked this???

  • @damudaphuckinpimp Let's go knock some sense into those 3 peoples ears!!!

  • My husband's name is Jimmy, lol. He said that people use to always make fun of him with this song, lol.

  • Damn I was in junior high school when this song came brings back so many memories

  • Martha Reeves' voice is so raw and real. You just feel what she's singing way down deep in your bones.

  • I saw the Vandellas in local clubs, in Jersey and were always so good. This song was one of my favs and always loved to hear it on the radio. I always look for the oldies stations and there are fewer and fewer now. So sad what they play on top 40 now. The music died, but we can hear what the great music sounds like on youtube. To all who post the oldies , thanks! Great music lives on !

  • No other music era can come close to the 60's and 70's of Motown. End of discussion.

  • So true!! I saw Florence Ballard's story on unsung and they said when Flo was about to lose her home Diana offered to pay the mortgage and Flo turned her down.I said way to go,Flo! It was just going to be guilt money, because she knew she had enough influence over Berry Gordy to make things right for Flo.He is an old scumbag also. Now DIana enjoys fame and fortune all over the world. Is there any justice in this world?

  • I'm also a Jimmy , my co-worker said that to me .

  • I am so jealous of my mother for being alive to see 60s music... how lucky!

  • Always liked these better than the Supremes, could dance better to their tunes, more earthy!!!!

  • @petuniababi the reason the supremes rose above martha and the vandellas, was diana ross opening her legs left and right and even stepping all over her fellow supreme sisters just so she could get some recognition.... that's why a lot of people have no love for that old piece of shit bitch!

  • Thank you so much, you put a smile on my face today... God Bless and peace and love, you have class and style... many thanks. :) ( MreViewer ) Please keep the music commin.

  • big fat gypsyn weddings ha ha !!!!!

  • What's with those three for whom Jimmy never came back.

  • What a great group in such a changing time for the United States. Glad I was old enough to remember in the time they were popular. I remember my Aunt dancing to their music before she would leave to go to her High School dances. Love the music and the memories.

  • Martha got the "gap" filled in between her front teeth. She looks oh so fine to this very day......gurllllllllllllllll

  • Alot of people say i dont like this type of music, Like in the old type of music But back then You atleast had alot if you listened at all. ^^ Bcuz back people did millions of songs period! I mean it was almost imposable to not.

  • @60sdude saywha?

  • Loooooove this song, it's perfect to begin your day with!!

  • Released by Motown on February 3, 1967, and it peaked at Number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April of that year-

  • great song to dance to and to remember the "good ole days"

  • More magic from Ms.Reeves and the Vandellas.

  • Karen Carpenter's version is much better

  • @ILoveABBA12 YES, but Karen Carpenter never recorded it first-

  • @ILoveABBA12 mmmm nah!

  • @ILoveABBA12 "Karen Carpenter's version is much better"

Only if your ears are in your feet.

  • @luvureally Orale! Qué hice?

  • @luvureally Bet you're white....Don't you have a Klu Klux Khan lynching to attend?

  • @luvureally You must like the Karen Carpenter version also.

  • The Music That makes You Wanna Move & Groovee!

  • One of the things i remember about this song, was that 'thumping bass' that pounded your chest while dancing. Also long ago, there was a star basketball player at Columbia Univ. named Jim McMillan. This was what they played during warmups.

  • @13NJJACK Good Catch. You do have good taste. The 'thumping bass' is provided by Mr. James Jamerson, Genius bassist, one of the original Motown Funk Brothers.

  • This bring back so much memory, dancing in the living room doing the jerk, dog, the pony ,all hell,'' let me dance, old bi-ch coming thru....lol

  • A huge hit in my teens, great to hear it again.

  • I grew up listening to this music...This is great, a real Motown classic.

  • Martha, what rhythmn!! this song was one of my favs during this time. Such a great dance tune.

  • LOVE IT :O)

  • The 60's...Great music...Big hair...Mini-skirts,,,Yessir!!!

  • It was hard to study back then in grammar school because there was so much good music and TV on all the time!

  • Is it weird that I love this kind of music and I wasn't even thought of when it came out lol?

  • Its funny because this is my dads name and he gets a buzz when it comes on viva or something

  • Back when black music was good...

  • these ladies didn't get enough credit they are grrreeeaaat...i was 10 in 64, this song was always on the "record player"....

  • My four year old loves this song! This is real music lol!!

  • my friends call me crazy cause i rarely listen to music now, but i really can't help loving this music.

  • O.G! :D Hehe<3

  • If this song doesn't make you want to dance then nothing will!

  • motown at it's best.

  • those oldies but goodies

  • Listening to this on mowtown hitsvile usa 1959-1971 and i think this song is so goodddddd

  • THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS DEFINITIVE VERSION OF A CLASSIC DANCE TRACK FROM MOTOWN! DAVEDJ

  • I'm 15 & I love this song so much, my favorite.

  • my nickname is jimmy too. Yup..mama played it for me all the time too!

  • Phil collins has made a cover of this song in his new album Going Back, there are a lot of songs of Vandellas like Dancing in the streets or Nowhere to run !!!!

  • Reminds me of dancing in the basement at Christmas with my cousins when I was a little kid back in the 70s

  • @larabelle13 Yeah this song does take you back in time. This was my mama's jam. I never really thought about it when i was a kid but now it sounds so pleasing & refreshing. Now that i actually pay attention 2 da story line, this lady was really trying 2 be faithfull 2 dat player J-Mack. She wants him to hurry back cause she's getting horny 4 dat other dude. LOL The other dude had strong game & this lady wanted J 2 be there but i guess she got weak & gave that other cat sum o dat kitty. LOL

  • Oh Lordvltr you are ssssooooooo bad !

  • LOVE IT!

  • Just a side thought. As much as I loved Martha and the Vandellas, they're personnel changes made the ones groups like Destiny's Child went through seem mildly tame :-)

  • I am :) Such a great song!
