  • wir waren 1990 in Mannheim und es war geil!

  • and this fashion, music died??? how?? damn

  • Happy memories of this gig, feckin awesome day!

  • And then GRUNGE came in

  • I love Slip of the Tongue just as much as I love 1987, but Vai took Vandenberg's guitar parts and more or less decorated them like some people do with a christmas tree: an enormous amounts of lights, balls and other stuff,

I wonder how things would have sounded n its original shape.

  • Good but Sykes was the best...

  • @basscom77 true, Sykes was so unique, faster, better, and with much more feel in his playing!

  • @OctaviousLecter

Spot on mate. Sykes had amazing feel. Vai is quality but prefer Sykes style and he's not a bad songwriter too!

  • "oh no my face is melting and my tits have gone south" - David

  • @ytsuleroma Not really, their best stuff by far was done with John Sykes on the 1987 album. The stuff with Vai wasnt too great IMHO.

  • wonder if Vai said, "okay...I'll join the band, but Vandenberg needs to give me his side of the stage, and he can go over there and stand next to Rudy, like little Vivian used to do"

Love the snake! Coverdale still slays them all...

  • And this comes officially available summer 2011!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Too exited to believe it's true.

  • @pessomar What becomes officially available this summer??? A dvd of Donington MOR???

  • @8bigtubes You should be able to buy it from Play com right now.

  • I still have the t-shirt. With the 10 year birthday cake. Pristine (ish).

  • was there it was fab

  • It's British

  • it would have been an awesome line up with steve vai and john sykes at the same time

  • yep steve left lee roth and jason becker came after steve left them and joins whitesnake.

  • Coverdale never had a problem getting top notch musicians to play with him in Whitesnake..............just look at all the different line - ups

  • Why do ppl say whitesnake were a waste of ticket money on this concert?? They sound great!! Maybe they rerecorded stuff?? LIke the 2004 concert... Still a great DVD though! :P

  • hahahahaha @1.54 "I love to get get onstage with a big red hard on!!"

  • I prefer the old whiesnake -

    does anyone else?

  • @ytsuleroma Sykes is better..;)

  • No chance, the sykes/coverdale lineup was far superior

  • @Xiolablu3 I second this. Vai is great but Sykes belongs with Coverdale just like C.C. belongs with Poison.

  • This girl is hot.

  • I was THERE!! 18th August - it was my 20th birthday - RIGHT AT THE FRONT for the whole day. This was an AMAZING gig. The best compilation of rock bands in one place I think I have ever seen!! Vai was just magical and Coverdale delivered in every way possible.

    Happy Happy times!!

  • and Vanessa Warwick always got on my tits as well. I'll probably have Ricky on my doorstep for saying that as well.

  • @conansdog Who`s Ricky?

  • Ricky Warwick, frontman of The Almighty, married to Vanessa (don't know if they still are). @coltsuperocean10

  • @conansdog ..cheers dude!! Her hair is so long we never get to see if she is hot or not? Im guessing HOT!!

  • Far too much makeup though, bless 'er.@coltsuperocean10

  • Were we at the same gig? Whitesnake were fucking awful. Coverdale just shouted for 2 hours. I agree that Dave got a great guitar sound out of Mr Vai for the album but they were all over the shop for Donnigton. Great band, great line up (though you can't beat the original) but a very poor show.

  • best line up!!

  • damn the interview girl is sooo hot

  • Is Part 1 and part 2 the whole concert of Whitesnake ? What is missing from it, if them 2 parts arnt the whole thing? Also is the quality good bad or ok ? Thanks :)

    (Looks pretty good :D)

  • Favourite 'Snake era depends on when you were born really, the 'made in Hell' 1987 & beyond hairspray stuff's not my cup of tea at all, best line-up was 1978-84. I don't even have any of the stuff after that.

  • I can hear he has listened to Axl alot.

  • @drummer1brt2gzs hope you dont mean axl rose.....

but I asume you do.. and if you do, I bet it is rather the other way around. coverdale has been a professional singer since 1973.

  • @leppardsnake

Yes, Coverdale is an awesome professional. But EVERYBODY emulates the most happening band at the time.

  • @drummer1brt2gzs which was def leppard ? :P

or a toss up between g n r and def leppard.

and dont believe that everybody emulates the most happening band at the time, but sure.:D

  • @leppardsnake

Def leppard!? hehe! I'm talking REAL rock n' roll, not pop ;)

GNR was a real rock band, and all other bands knew it. no matter what mtv etc said.

Anyway, I think the reason Coverdale lasts through decades is because he can change with the times.

  • @drummer1brt2gzs sigh.. def leppard was/ is a real rock n roll band not pop..

  • "I love to get on stage with a big red heart-on." Did anyone else catch that?

  • Worst band of the day, Thunder and Aerosmith (with Jimmy) stole the day. Many fond memories of that day, but whitesnake aren't part of them, sorry

  • vandenberg was very good too...

  • @Pigro89 In fact, Vandenberg was better.

  • I love to get on stage with a big red heart on! hahaha classic!

  • vai was best with zappa.whitesnake made an offer any guitarist could'nt resist.

  • I've appreciated Vai's work for years but I think Sykes was better in Whitesnake.

  • Coverdale sounds so much like Robert Plant it's not even funny.

  • I think it is the Best components of Whitesnake. The presence of Steve Vai it was a Revolution for Whitesnake. Isn`t true?

Great time !!! Amasing distribution !!!

    Happy memories !!!

    Keep Rock Forever !!!

    Marius606 - Arad, Romania

  • I prefer Sykes, but this is an amazing band nonetheless

  • @MARIUS606 Mistake!

Sykes made THE popularity..I mean 'WHITESNAKE 87' Hellllouuu! :D

  • @midojegej0123

Ironically, still Vai managed to do it better.

  • @MARIUS606

Definitely Vai did it. I kinda miss him with Whitesnake.

  • My biggest memory of Donny in 1990 was the BBC telling Mr. Coverdale to stop swearing at which point he got the crowd to swear for him. Several thousand people shouting F**K Off in unison, there's a man with a sense of humour!

  • I remember it well! I was one of the several thousand happy to oblige Mr Coverdale's request! Do you remember Jimmy Page playing with Aerosmith?

  • OMG I was there all those years ago. It was fantastic. David Coverdale is still number one. Close second Steve Tyler so what a line up...

  • Looking at this its hard to believe Whitesnake didn't get a great review for that show. Review was in ither Kerrang or MH but I'm not sure.

  • do you mean Steve Vai?

  • My god. " You know I love to get on stage a big red heart on." That's one of the greatest quotes I've ever heard. Props to Steve for that shit.

  • holy fuck ...i just love these guy..hope gonna meet them play live...such a big bang band...

  • areosmith is on in the back ground at 5.30

  • In the window? how can you tell?

  • because i can hear the areosmith song crazy

  • Sorry. I thought you meant you saw them in the background.

  • Is it possible to find the full show on DVD somewhere ?

  • Vai is refering to this:

Monsters of Rock was cancelled in 1989 because of the deaths of two fans during the Guns N' Roses performance in 1988. This was widely reported to have been due to fighting in the crowd: in reality it was a tragic combination of people at the front of the 95,000 crowd moshing and slipping in the mud (it had rained heavily) in conjunction with a surge to see the band. Unfortunately, this resulted in the two fans being crushed.

    found this on Wikipedia...

  • yup - i was there at the front - AXL was trying to stop the crowd and the band - Slash just kept on playing - welcome to the jungle as it happens - i have to say the irony was not lost on me even at 17. me and my mate got the fck out of there. We didnt' see the crush but we knew something bad was going to happen.

  • Id like to know about what tragedy Vai is referring to. Maybe Vandenbergs injury that kept him out of the recording sessions of Slip of the Tongue, which actually allowed Vai to ruin the record doing his stupid thing all over the place.

  • what 'tragedy from last year' is Vai referring to in the beginning of the interview...?

I do not typically like Vai..he is an amazing player but never cared for his personality..altho in this interview he seems cool..
