I thought Nils Lofgren sang lead on that one. Danny was already dead, and so was Bruce Berry, that's what the whole album was about. Neil and the band (the Santa Monica Flyers I think) would drown their sorrows in booze and played hammered night after night, and the material they concocted became the Tonight the Night album. Thats how I remember it from my history books anyhow.

Danny and Neil wrote that song. It was recorded live in 1970.
