Creepy but cool and funny at the same time. My kid played a Necromancer in D&D yesterday - I had forgotten that Rush did this Necromancer thing but today, here I have rediscovered this.
no at times this sounds just like neil; like in a way this cant be his voice. listen to much older interviews with rush; for example the one that was in beyond the lighted stage, although i dont know which one it is, but its the one where the interviewer asks the question and geddy says to neil "well let you answer it."
Holy crap, ppl. Clean the wax outta yer ears, do some research. This is Neil. The other shouting voice on Didacts and Narpets besides Geddy? Also Neil. The voice at the end of 2112, is Neil. The voice saying "Subdivisions!" was long said to be a newscaster from Toronto but is in fact, Neil. Cygnus X-1 intro is Terry Brown. The RTB rap is Ged. The other vocal on the chorus of Superconductor is producer Rupert Hine. Did I miss any? How about Amee Mann? You can figure that one out, right?
@srslflks Have you actually played it on an LP at 45 rpm? I spent most of my high school years along with my friends thinking it was Neil, until we actually PLAYED it at 45 rpm. Then it is clearly Geddy. EVERYONE I have ever played it for, no matter how sure they were that it was Neil, has changed their minds when they heard it at 45 rpm. Just try it. Trust me, I am as big a Rush fan as anyone, and I am not an idiot. I have heard Geddy speak in documentaries, and it's the same voice.
@ukecycle Speeding up the vinyl wont change the fact its Neil - Or perhaps neil and Geddy just lied about who did the narration? This video is the narration correctly adjusted back to normal speed - listen to it - Do you really still think its Geddy?
If you are saying Neils voice slowed down 20% then sped up 45% creates a voice that sounds like Geddy - I'd probably agree you have a case. But....its neil
@ChristellaKury I've heard it. You apparently are not going to bother to listen to the vinyl. It doesn't sound like Neil either on the vinyl sped up OR on this post. I'm not sure who the guy is who wrote this "expert" biography on Rush, but my guess is that he hasn't been told by the band that it was Neil, but rather that he is just repeating what has long been believed by fans. On this video post, the voice actually sounds closer to Alex than to either N. or G. Listen to it on vinyl!
@ukecycle dude, give it a rest. I'm with Christella--Of course it sounds like Geddy if you speed it up to BEYOND the amount it was slowed down. I've been a Rush fan for 30+ years, have every DVD and book, old magazines, etc., not to mention having seen interviews on MTV or here on YouTube. I have both of Neil's drum videos and his Making of Burning for Buddy. I think I know pretty well what they all sound like, too, so don't give me that like you're the only one who's ever heard them. Jeez.
just checking in... i think it's neil... i can hear it...so many interviews i have seen... last line "soars into the night" plus many other speech patterns... love the vid/audio
I've always loved the Caress of Steel album (apart from that silly track "Bald"!), "The Fountain of Lamneth" is an epic, I'd love to hear it performed live now, it would be quite pertinent to them at their present time of life!
You don't need to process the voice to know it's Neil and not Geddy... and actually, the original untouched intro sounds closer to Neil's voice than this processed one.
I think it's Alex. Same voice as "Subdivisions".

@ukecycle hmm.. Which of these options is more scientific to you.
1. take a slowed down voice on 33rpm recording and speed it up randomly to another speed (say 45rpm)
2. take a slowed down recording and digitally adjust the speed until a normal speaking voice is produced.
If you keep speeding up your vinyl and you'll end up convinced they got in the chipmunks in to do the voice-over.

@ChristellaKury Have you actually TRIED speeding up the vinyl as I suggest? Or are you just condemning it out of hand?
