  • The woman scientist, cause the fact that she's an intelligent ape isn't half as unbelievable as the fact that she has a career.

  • I had the Soldier -Ape!!!!!....this shit ruled.

  • They are making monkeys out of us

  • They're not dolls - they're action figures DAMMIT!

  • @SIGNALSTAT Here's an idea, also inspired by the '70s: The famous Tylenol recall of tainted tablets. How 'bout we get a hold of some and you take three Christmas morning?

  • "Woman scientist"? Uh, she'd be correctly referred to as the "female scientist". She's not human.

  • ... wtf the apes all look the same

  • This reminds me of Gilligan's Island. . ...the Astronuant....and the rest!"

  • Gotta love how Zira is not just a scientist... she's the "Woman Scientist."

  • @scottjwp XD

I think in the movie she said she was a veterinarian.

  • My God this brings back memories. I was NUTZ about these as a kid. All the kids in my neighborhood was into them as well. My favorite was the "Urko" figure.

  • lol

  • ... and the astronaut! Well never forget him.

  • the music sort of sounds like a crappy version of the 2001: A Space Odyssey music

  • I had cornelius and my sister forced me to have him marry her Barbie doll when we were 7years old. In our room, over time...Barbie also married:Steve Austine, the hulk, spiderman, The thing from the fantastic four and Dr. Bones from star trek..Barbie was a slut...:-)

  • @Fpockets I bet ur sister is too.

  • Me gustan los Planeta de los simios Cipsa.

  • I still have these actions figures from 1974 when I was a kid I bet they are worth a few bucks today

  • As I recall, there was also a General Ursus doll too. He wore a weird looking helmet.

  • planet of the apes scared the shit outta me when i was a kid!

  • OMG i love planet of the apes :) (i want those dolls) HaHaHaHa

  • Oh God,it's one of them Astronauts.

    Oh shit,there goes the planet...

  • it sounds like the narrators under water

  • used to have the tree house compound as a kid -pain in the ass to put together lol

were the hell did you find this.... always confused the hell outta me that they were white when you took their clothes off.... they're suppossed to be apes guess they did'nt know what color apes were back then.

  • Woman scientist - nice speciality.

  • I saw the mego mystery man! If I"m right, mego had the rights to marvel and DC, yet neither has had his appearance in a comic (unless you say he's from one of those sci-fi anthology stories.)

  • how much are these toys worth now?

  • ,,thousands of dollars !

  • freaky sounding music id crap my self if that had come on when i was a kid x

  • ,,if it scares you then record it & play it over & over with headphones on as you sleep at night, it should cure you.

  • you do it

  • @PupuTheClown

    iv started collecting them

  • Did they get sued for using 2001 A Space Odyssey's theme? Odd. Why swipe a different sci-fi film's theme?

  • @TheJediCharles

Yes they got sued for using the Richard Struauss composition Also sprach Zarathustra from 1896. Dur.

  • Okay, didn't think that one through.

And thanks for not being a sarcastic ass about it too.

  • @TheJediCharles

No problem. I aim to please.

  • Correction:

An Urko and Ursus doll were put out as part of Mego's collection for the TV series.

Urko had the headgear and outfit, Ursus looked very dark skinned, muscular, and brutal.

  • M-16 machine guns were indeed supplied with the Ape soldier, as pictured here.

In the first 2 films, however, the Apes did not use M-16s, but a modified M1 rifle.

    Some sexism here

-Zira referred to simply as a "woman scientist", but she was an Animal Psychiatrist.

  • These figures were based on the first movie, that's why the Ape soldier is generic.

A General Ursus was put out soon after.

There were also figures from the TV series, including Galen, Virdon, Burke, and Urko.

For some reason, Urko had the head gear and costume, but Ursus had neither, he was more muscular than the generic Ape soldier,

with glowering expression, and dark skinned.

  • I have those figures.

The astronaut does resemble Chuck Heston

-he has red hair and a large nose.

To the best of my recollection, these figures were on sale at store shelves until at least 1977, which is years after the movies and TV series had ceased production.

To my knowledge, there was no "Brent" figure.

There was a horse and an elaborate treehouse type laboratory.

  • My astronaut was labeled Brent. He was the one after Heston or one of the series astronauts.

  • ......"and the non-descript soldier ape........and the non-descript astronaut........", lol.

  • Mego did have the most horrible commercials

  • It's too funny how they use music from 2001 a space odyssey.

  • I guess both movies both came out in '68, and both had something to do with apes, human evolution and space, which is why they used the theme from 2001. The theme music from POTA wasn't that great.

    JMHO

  • Yes! I noticed that too!

  • My cousin & I had the figures and even the accompanying "set", the hut or whatever it was called. But the plots and storylines we invented were full of hilarious dialogue and exchanges. All clean stuff, but riotous...wish I'd written some down...

  • I AM AN ORANGUTAN!

  • Why did it say the astronaut and not TAYLOR?

The WOMAN SCIENTIST. ALL ONE of them.

    politically correct, schmerrect.

  • Where's the Statue of Liberty torso?

  • I WANT THEM!!!

  • They are "ACTION FIGURES" not DOLLS!!!!11!1

  • i had some of these dolls a lot of the mego toys, loved em,

  • I have em. all of them. Im not lying. I dunno how much there worth now

  • Ahh, the memories. I absolutely LOVED these toys. They were my favorite out of the Mego collection. Although it did bother me that General Ursus didn't wear a helmet like the character in the movie (same as Urko's).

  • Why does the solider ape have a M16 when in the movies they have bolt action rifles?

  • IIRC, the M-16's were leftovers from Mego's GI JOE knockoff "Action Jackson".

  • Make a doll out of Aldo (Battle of the planet of the Apes) and have him have a buttton and when you press it, he'll say "WE WANT GUNS!!" LOL!!!

  • I had these dolls, To this day cannot figure why astronaut wore a jet pilot helmet !. I remember there was also a play set called Judson's Garage. Meco also made all the Space 1999 and Star Trek Stuff

  • astronaut had a name. Taylor

  • ha! Used to have the whole collection as a kid. This brought back a lot of memories.

  • They scared me lol

  • my favourite ape is Ahmad from star academy 4 :P

  • My favorite toys from way back.

  • "Zira, the women scientist and Ric Flair! 16 time world champion"

  • THUS SPAKE ZARATHUSTRA ???

  • Do you think Nietzsche had a Planet of the Apes figure to serve as the centrepiece for his philosophical inspiration?

  • "Zira, the women scientist"

    lol

  • These disappeared mysteriously from my toy collection when I was a kid. I had all but the Astronaut who was kinda boring by comparison. Boys had all kinds of cool dolls in the '70s! :)

  • gr8 !!!

  • That was amazingly chessy

  • the doctors at my HMO look like theses guys, holy sh#t!

  • Pretty ironic that they used the "2001" theme. The movie came out the same year as "2001" (1968), and won the oscar for best make up, beating "2001".

  • that soldier ape doens't look like a gorilla

  • LOL!! I know! What the hell is that thing!?

  • Love the high school film strip audio...haha

  • I had cornelius and Zira & Dr Zaius

  • do u still have them ? are they not worth money now ? i didn't have them and i don't know anyone that did...i have never even heard of mego toys b4. it must be just an american thing.

  • no its not just an american thing ....im in the uk and had the galen one and a soldier....32 years ago!!!!!!

  • They worth a lot on ebay if they're mint condition but I've seen cool British toys on ebay so yall had good things too.

  • bitchb-what price range do they run?

  • WOOOOOooooo!!!!!! Why did they use the 2001 theme???? I almost expected A Ric Flair Figure to be introduced!!!

  • I was wondering that, too! It would be cool if Ric Flair came in and said "WHOOO!!"

  • I had 3 of these 5 figures, and thanks to the discovery of lighter fluid & M-80's as a kid growing up in the 70's, they don't exist anymore. I also had the Planet Of The Apes treehouse for these. Anyone remember that?

  • lol yes fire and dolls dont mix, luved the planet of the apes.I bet ebay has some dolls. lol

  • "The woman scientist!"

  • i laughed at that bit too.

  • "the astronaut"...sheesh couldn't get heston's name for use?

  • The Astronaut wasn't ment to be Heston's character Taylor. Mego didn't get the rights to Heston's likeness to make a Taylor figure (which they were planning on making) so they just made a generic Astronaut and simply called "the Astronaut".

  • Mego never actually bothered watching the Movies or reading the comics of the Licensed products they were selling. the announcer is comical.

  • Is this really a commercial back then? If it was, I feel sorry for them compared to ours today. Especially the Superbowl Commercials, lol.

  • I had every single one of these and broke them all after a few years. Too bad. I should've kept them in the box. My father hated them because he didn't want his son playing with dolls. I turned out straight, though.

  • lmao my father was the same way, with me it was g.i.joes lol. although i did have some of the planet of the apes model kits. oh yeah, i turned out straight as well.

  • Same here! I would remind Dad that they were "action figures!" Not dolls!!!! Got the Treehouse, oh probably Christmas of 1975....

  • joey: Wow! I had completely forgotten about that. I had the treehouse, too, and I think a bunch of rock caves and stuff (I may be mixing that up with another toy, though)! Man, my father hated that stuff...so worried his son was gonna be a fruit. HA HA

  • There was a catapalt with a wagon, a horse that moved slowly along, a Forbidden Zone fortress, and some kind of tall look out thing... The Treehouse in a box is worth a few bucks on Ebay!

  • GEEZ, all of these buried memories are flashing back at me with every toy you mention. I think I had most of this stuff, but it's all gone now. Still love to watch the original movies though! All classics!

  • LMAO!!! The Woman Scientist.

  • there not dolls there action figures ... aight ???

  • I had these. :)

  • apes with m16's and crappy music, only in da 70's, WHERE IS THE APE WITH AN AFRO GOING IN TO A DISCO BAR!

  • don't give them personal names, they are their job afterall

  • HA HA HA HA "THE WOMAN SCIENTIST"

  • I've still got all of these!

  • No doofus. This was from the early 70's

  • what movie is this from? the second one?
