I think that the Mary in bed is simply another projection of James' subconscious, and the scene symbolizes how he has finally forgiven himself and is thus free to leave(or commit suicide) Silent Hill. Mary wanted an end to the pain. I'm sure she'd rather her husband do it then die a slow, agonizing death. Of course no one WANTS to die, but we all must face that at one point. James does feel deep remorse and regret for what he did.
There's also the end of the letter, in which Mary tells him to live his life, go on without her and be happy.
Remember. What loved one would want you to die with them? They still loved each other despite Mary treating him badly while she was sick

To me, this is the proper ending, as it's the only positive ending. He was brought to Silent Hill by his guilt, and in this ending, he left in one piece, with Laura who is a real girl. The demon Samual (or whatever his name is) did not get the better of him.

Well each of the endings besides the ufo and the dog one are how you played the game. This ending is that james realized maria was an illusion made real by his need for mary. After he kills the demon maria he makes peace with mary and decides to adopt laura like mary would have wanted and he just leaves silent hill with laura.
It's a long story. Some of it depends on how you treat Maria, your health status, how often you view certain items, (the knife, the letter, the photo) etc. Check Gamefaqs for the complete rundown.

for all of you that didnt understand the end, but understand the background of silent hill itself, him and his wife were linked to silent hill hence the whole story and hsi whole marrige he tried telling himself he didnt love his wife but in the end it showed how far he'd go just to see his dead wife again and proves that he really did love her and he needed her 'ok' or last message to go on with hsi life because he was obsessing over her death.
yes this is the "Best" ending... there are two good endings (this and "rebirth") two bad endings (water and maria) and two... very silly endings. (DOG and UFO)
I wouldn't exactly call the "rebirth" ending to be a good one, though. He's using the darkness of Silent Hill to resurrect his wife, and this can only lead to very, very ill circumstances for both James and his wife.
Not by a long shot. Most of the voice actors in the game do a great job most of the time- only Angela's voice is awful. You've got to play Martian Gothic, Symphony of the Night, or Resident Evil to hear truly awful voice acting.

Please explain...how can the bitch hurt him inside that cage? I never got the chance to really think, and give thought to that. I don't get it...what the hell can she do in that cage to him? Wow...by the way...in America/Mexico/Germany/Norway/and Britain...that's what you would call a bitch.

Well each of the endings besides the ufo and the dog one are how you played the game. This ending is that james realized maria was an illusion made real by his need for mary. After he kills the demon maria he makes peace with mary and decides to adopt laura like mary would have wanted and he just leaves silent hill with laura.

It's a long story. Some of it depends on how you treat Maria, your health status, how often you view certain items, (the knife, the letter, the photo) etc. Check Gamefaqs for the complete rundown.

for all of you that didnt understand the end, but understand the background of silent hill itself, him and his wife were linked to silent hill hence the whole story and hsi whole marrige he tried telling himself he didnt love his wife but in the end it showed how far he'd go just to see his dead wife again and proves that he really did love her and he needed her 'ok' or last message to go on with hsi life because he was obsessing over her death.

yes this is the "Best" ending... there are two good endings (this and "rebirth") two bad endings (water and maria) and two... very silly endings. (DOG and UFO)

I wouldn't exactly call the "rebirth" ending to be a good one, though. He's using the darkness of Silent Hill to resurrect his wife, and this can only lead to very, very ill circumstances for both James and his wife.

Not by a long shot. Most of the voice actors in the game do a great job most of the time- only Angela's voice is awful. You've got to play Martian Gothic, Symphony of the Night, or Resident Evil to hear truly awful voice acting.
