Ok, for all you not so clever types, it breaks down like this.
Frankie Valli and the Four seasons cut the original track written for them by Bob Gaudio. Timebox then covered it about 1.5 years later.
Madcon covered the Timebox version.
The talentless "The Saturdays" have a version too, which as you'd expect is full wavering notes to disguise the fact they could carry a tune even if it was in a suitcase.

try this. listen to any beggin followed by madcon's liar .. it's like a flow in the music. really cool. am doing this for a talent competition at uni.
The Four Seasons recorded this record in February 1967, and it was written for them by Bob Gaudio, who wrote much of their output. It never charted in the UK. The version by Timebox was issued in the UK on May 31st 1968 and charted briefly in July of that year, nearly 18 months after the Four Seasons' version was recorded.
Rubbish! The orchestration is more reminiscent of Beatles cellos etc. The lead singer is OK but doesn't have that unique sound of Valli. in the end, a cover version can never be better than the original.
I disagree, although I retract my comment that Valli is a "cheese-eating butt smeller". I do like the Timebox vocal better, and the bonkers drums fills. Cover version can never be better than the original? Kookoo!
Not true - plenty of covers surpass the original. eg "All along the watch tower"? -Hendrix wipes the floor with Dylan...the Jam version of David Watts is better than the Kinks.. and just about all versions of "Hallelujah" are better than leonard Cohen's. If I could be bothered I could probably think of 100 more- but I can't be bothered.
much more of a soul version than the original, nice though. I like all the versions of this I've heard so far, works well in soul, hiphop, dance, pretty versatile tune. Now let's see propellerheads or fatboy slim do a bigbeat version :P

When I worked the Northern Soul scene, I DID play this cut, it was so far out, and the floor went wild.
Talking 1975 to 1978.

Frankie Valli is a cheese-eating butt smeller. This version tears the 4 Seasons to shreds.

Does the Stanton Warriors mix use the original Valli version? Timebox is quite good but the use of cello's reminds me of the beatles
