You could not get further away, structurally, than the WTC and the ESB. One is a concrete/masonry fortress... The other is a "Lightweight Lattice" of columns tied together with floor trusses. The plane is doing nearly 800 ft/sec. The building is 210 ft wide.

They didn't take in to account the fuel.... Because they could not model such a thing back in 1968. Its a complex floating point calculation that requires a computer. Today its easy. Also. There is no aircraft that would be landing with a full fuel tank. So why plan for it?

It has so much momentum and velocity that it is carried straight in to the building. Why wouldn't it? Its hitting a great big empty space. Not the ground!! Its doing 820 ft/sec. Because of the same matter of perspective, in the left SHOT you can not aprecciate the plane due to color, bright and contrast of the background. In the right one, taken from a different angle, you have the sky as BG and so you can see the differences of contrasts and brights and so, the plane is no "camouflaged" by the tint of the image.
