Ferrets don't smell bad. My wife and I have been ferret owners for over 12 years. Bathing them too frequently will cause them to secrete oils for their hair. Frequently changing their bedding is the best way to keep any "smell" down. They have no more smell than does a dog.

@darnallt I know, I have a ferret too and I learned that if you don't shampoo them too often, they will not smell so strongly. This was suggested to me by several ferret owners. And I'm not sure how dog breath on my ferret would be for me hahahh my mom's dog once lifte his leg and took a piss on my ferret while he was in his cage. D: I had to wash him and move his cage where the dog wouldn't reach. >_> Does your dog do this too?

I got to ferrets and my opinion is, that you just have to accept their special smell, because it is a part of them, just like the smell of other pets. Sometimes you have to bath your ferrets, maybe if they are smelling like shit because they actually jumped into it... but otherwise it is not necessary to bath them. They clean themselves like cats do, and who don´t can handle their typical smell should not have a ferret at home... that is my opinion

We ferret sat for a friend once and my lab (who normally hates all other animals) and the ferret absolutely loved playing together. They would run around the yard together and pounce on each other...even loved hanging out by the car window together.

I want a ferret so bad! Also want a Malamute...one of my fave breeds ever :D

I don't get people who say there's a huge risk of the ferret getting killed. If you know anything about dogs, you can see that the dog isn't aggressive towards the ferret in any way. People let their chihuahuas play with bigger dog's and they don't get killed either!

In my experience dogs and ferrets get on really well, this is only playing - you'd know if they didn't like each other. This happens when I play with dogs or ferrets, they both bite me in the same way but it never hurts. It's only fun.
