  • i used to do a bit of sampling but also can play a little piano and guitar. hip hop as a music genre is a medium to re-invent and refresh other styles so it can get through to more people. perhaps there are many who wouldnt appreciate jazz if it wasn't for this. and i know the reason for sampling is those "subtle bits" nigh on impossible to recreate when playing on an instrument, that create the atmosphere, and when the beat gels with the lyrical content of someone like Nas, it's a Classic.

  • waiit this is a different version than the one i have, what album is this off of? friggen amazing

  • i understand the whole instrumentalist vs producer debate. but they're totally different realms of music making! im a huuuge ahmad jamal fan..but also a huge pete rock/premo fan...and i must say - both producers made great tracks out of this!

  • Nasty Nas - The world Is Yours

Jeru The Damaja - Me Or The Papes

  • This is SHARIAH music. They are taking over. look at the name

  • JAZZ IS MAGNIFICENT ON LSD

  • @ruggedouttechnicians making love jazz and mushrooms!

  • HIP HOP IS TRASH...Ahmed Jamal has spent an entire life MASTERING AN INSTRUMENT while hip hop producers take a few weeks to learn how to use an mpc (now a pirated program) and STEAL REAL WORK...

What is considered CLASSIC hip hop material is nothing more than SHIT OFF THE TOP OF THE HEAD OF A MUSICIAN...

Blow it out, chumps, I've produced hip hop before (and still do) BUT... I've put in the THOUSANDS of hours required to learn how to play an instrument as well.

  • @djfakt STFU FAGGOT

  • @djfakt ignorant ass comment smh

  • @djfakt YOU ARE A HIP HOP PRODUCER, AND YOU TALK THAT WAY ABOUT HIP HOP ??????

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH YOU'RE SOOOO FUCKING STUPID !!!!

  • @djfakt i know man...and most people dont realize. Though i kinda doubt what you say about your instrument playing

  • Comment removed

  • @djfakt An mpc isn't a program it's an instrument, which kind of contradicts the point you're trying to make. Also a lot of Hip-Hop producers are multi-instrumentalist, Pete Rock is also a bassist. I sample songs when I make Hip-Hop beats as well and I play trumpet so the points you're trying to make are irrelevant. Next time learn the history of Hip-Hop before you talk shit about it. You're a producer who takes time to learn instruments but nobody knows of your music? Jokes on you.

  • oh yes

  • damn where would hip hop be without jazz :)

  • @ShAySlIm130 It wouldn't.

  • all time classic.. I chopped this beat up a bit differently, check my version out

  • Nostalgic...my favorite from Ahmad, specially since its sampled in one of my favorite songs,The World Is Yours!

  • DJ Premier flipped it for Jeru... how you gonna say Pete Rock sampled something and then say Jeru did also... Jeru don't make no beats...

  • @svendiamond Your grasp on the English language is amusing to me...You are the quintessence of ignorance.

  • @djfakt It's "you're," idiot.

  • @svendiamond ...its actually not.....ouch

he used "Your" correctly....it is not "You're" as u implied.....awk

  • @shizleconjuror I know man I was being silly to mess with him.

  • Fuck Pee Wee Herman Nasir Jones sent me here

  • 4 people had to miss the like button

  • music,. the foundation of hip hop all stemmed from this

  • Pee-Wee sent us here because, apparently, our man's a mainstream jazz fan from way back. Kudos, Pee-Wee!

  • Pee-wee sent us here because he is the coolest! Ahmad Jamal is absolutely the BEST! I was so happy to see him refer people to this you tube page! I've loved Ahmad Jamal since the 70's!

  • Pee wee sent me here... for some reason I may never understand. <3

  • Pee Wee Herman sent me here.

  • Classick...

  • I chill to this song in NYC when it's snowing out and remember the 90's....

  • Illmatic inspired me to learn how to sample. This is not just a sample, it is a beautiful piece of music of its own accord.

  • Does anyone else note the irony that the track "The World is Yours" is directly preceded by "Life's a Bitch ("and then you die", according to AZ)? Seems a little incongruent if you ax me.

  • Whos the young city bandit holding shit single handed?

  • nas 'the world is yours' is what found me this piece i think i will check some more out.

    very nice

  • i gotcha...lupe fiasco remix! lol

    ...nice!

  • great piece!

  • Friggin "A" indaplace2b, DJ's and producers getting the credit rather than the artist... that's fucked up! .... any idiot can sample ....

  • @djtonypoole spoken like someone who knows nothing about sampling.

  • I gotcha lupe fiasco

  • I L O V E music.

  • So dope!

  • its mines its mines its mines who's world is this

  • Always wanted to know where Nas' "The World is Yours" came from. Nice song!

  • This isnt the full track. but far out i cant believe i listened to this before i got really into hip hop weird aint it!

  • i can shed a tear right now

  • if you are listening the full lenght song, this transition is epic !

  • YOU MEAN PETE ROCK USED IT

  • Pete Rock gets super props for turning this smooth jazz tune into one of my favorite Hip Hop tracks. Hip Hop without paying homage to its predecessors (Sampling, etc...) isn't real Hip Hop. Hip Hop is but a "Game" nowadays. SMH

  • @justjakenit :)

  • paul ray at 40 sec

  • Paul Ray "more emotion" too

  • Killa!

  • THE WORLD IS YOURS!!!!!!!!!! best sample ever in my opinion

  • Listening to this I have tears rolling down my cheeks...

  • Don't forget about Jeru's "Me or the Papes"...

  • Ahmad Jamal is indeed the good shit. I loved the props that Miles gave him in his autobiography.

  • this is amazing...who's world is this!!!

  • @cookitup97 the world is yours!

  • Nas and Jay-Z both sampled this guy

  • Yep. Jay-Z sampled "Pastures" on his first album for the song "Feelin' It".

  • THE WORLD IS YOUUUURSSSSSSSS .... WHO'S WORLD IS THIS ?????? THE WORLD IS YOURS. I sip the Dom P, watchin Gandhi til I'm charged

Then writin in my book of rhymes, all the words pass the margin

To hold the mic I'm throbbin, mechanical movement

Understandable smooth shit that murderers move wit

The thief's theme, play me at night, they won't act right

The fiend of hip-hop has got me stuck like a crack pipe

The mind activation, react like I'm facin time like

'Pappy' Mason with pens I'm embracin

  • @Brynny211 I'll verses man we need shit like that to return to hip hop

  • damn "whos world is this is" an alltime evergreen and one of my favorit songs...and the original is breath taking

  • I completley agree. "The World Is Yours" is one of my favourite songs of alltime and it is evergreen. You can listen to it at any time of the year and it always seems to fit the mood. It is one of the only tracks on my iTunes library which makes it onto both my Winter playlist and Summer playlist

  • @mshaq1989 i agree my brother ....

  • @drmad21 Nope, the sample to thelonious is George Duke - Vulcan Mind Probe. Off his 1978 record The Dream. I don't know how people got it into their head that this was the sample...

  • So beautiful, easy to see why P sampled it. Piano concertos make wicked beats

  • @Tha1999

piano and strings make unreal beats.

  • Buenisima cancion para samplear...ojala todas las canciones de rap sacaran ritmos tan copados

  • PURE BEAUTY!

  • who care about sampling the song, Ahmad Jamal made the original haha jk jk

but yeah, this is just really nice, has that new swing/swag if you wanna say.

  • Look People Who Cares about who sampled it first ok pete rock produced it and come on ppl dont argue over bullshit lets just here great music and all the sampling are amazing from an amazing artist that made this piece and all i can say god bless him let him make breath-taking music

  • what a hell of an ear pete rock has...many would have not found that sample!!!!

  • Pete Rock opened my ears to a lot of great music that i would never hear before

  • perfect song man but wrong cover man...

  • Falsa alarma a sapanish rap group also used this sample in:

    Falsa alarma - Termes

  • Ahmad Jamal is a genius!

I painted his face from that cover at my school

  • Lupe Fiasco also sampled this song in I Gotcha..thats one reason i love that song..it has a great jazz feeling to it....some guy named Aroma did a Jazzy Remix to I Gotcha..but they removed it

  • This is a favorite - sampled by so many.

    VegConnections

  • nas didn't sample this song. pete rock produced "the world is yours"

  • cant really catch which part was used to make me or the papes...

  • is it around 0.54?

  • the world is yours

  • the real sample to thelonious is george duke - the vulcan mind probe. its off his 1976 solo keyboard album. PEACE

  • thanks fam =)

  • Where it all started...

  • album please?

  • i can't spot the thelonius sample in this... help a brother out?

  • i always thought nas used this but couldn't quite hear where it was. glad i realised he got it on another album.

  • the man, the legend, and the genius.

  • the world is yours,,

    really beautifull music,

    clean as crystal clear water

  • This track is indeed awesome. Why did you cut the beginning off though? Sure, it's a great sample, but the whole track merits to be heard in entirety!

  • i didnt cut it, this is how i got the track. i have the full version u youtube have told me not to upload it because of copyright

  • dood, this is the dopest jazz song ever!

  • Are you joking right now?

  • are you kidding? This is the original sample. Pete Rock took this and made it into "The World is Yours", not the other way round. Fucking moron. If you respect hip-hop, you gotta respect where it comes from

  • Kinda like when Daft Punk took Kanye's Stronger and made their own version

  • Lol, nicely said

  • hahah you got that

I thought no one would catch that

  • just to let u know it was the other way around. Letting u kno-Cityscape

  • hahaha I was joking

Of course Daft Punk didn't bite off Kanye

  • Daft Punk took samples from other songs, but they pretty much made it their own.

  • And it sucked large asshole just like Kanye...he fuckin ruined that song

  • hahahah

  • I bought his album, "The Awakening," 40 years ago next June, just a couple of months after it came out. Had no idea if I would like it. Loved it. Played it constantly in my $50 a month apartment my last year of college. Found the cd on Amazon about a year ago. Play it often. What beautiful music. Almost like a time machine, it takes me back. "I Love Music" is on it. Although, I also purchased 2 more of his more recent worked, "The Awakening" is still my favorite.

  • @kauaiphil 50 dollars a month!?...that musta a long LONG time ago

  • @nemesis700 , The Awakening came out in the Spring of 1970. I was at the University of Texas in Austin. The $50 a month apartment was one of those good deals that was passed from student to student. His music was like meditation for me. Now that I'm turning 62, it's like sweet nostalgia of those times. I listen to it frequently while I work on my radio control airplanes here in my man-cave garage in my home on Kauai. Aloha.

  • Grrrr OK ...I love hip hop ... am a big Dilla, Mf Doom, Pete Rock, 9th wonder fan ect. But i'm also a jazz musician ..... And i do wish you hop heads who make comments about these peices of music would stop looking at people like Mr Jamals music as a just a "SAMPLE" or something to spit over & try to apprieciate the music for what is is ..IE a work of art, A whole musical statement. Apprieciate the preformer who they lifted sample from for WHO THEY are ... the way the real hip hop producers do!

  • True man...the producers themselves recognize the talent of the originals...don't sleep on them!

  • @indaplace2b word to ya motha fam!

  • @indaplace2b i know htis is too an old comment but i feel you man niggas need to feel the soul of the music not jus tlook up a sample and know no history of the artist, its shady and horrible how some people look for a sample just to put on music not having any clue whom and what they're about

  • @anice121 true on that point.

  • What is the name of the mafia song with the same piano... UFOz world is yours is only a sample...

  • HeLLo ALL!

  • ahmad jamal is pure genius.

haha. every time i hear that pete rock sample i start spitting "the world is yours"

  • I sip the Dom P, watchin Gandhi til I'm charged

Writin in my book of rhymes, all the words pass the margin

Hold the mic I'm throbbin, mechanical movement

Understandable smooth shit, that murderers move wit

The thief's theme, play me at night they won't act right

The fiend of hip-hop has got me stuck like a crack pipe

  • A beautiful tune. Ahmad is one of the greats.

  • DILLA!

  • Whos World Is this?

  • it's mine

  • how did pete rock catch that part

  • Pete has that ear bruh! And just think, that's all it took to make that CLASSIC! That's it right there at 0:09!

  • Don't forget Godfather Don and Paul Ray!!!

  • Dilla

    Pete Rock

    &

    Premier

  • <3 :)

  • .10-.15 classic...the best part of the song

  • is mine

    is mine

    is mine

  • the world is yours!

  • I couldn't recognize Nas' "The World is Yours" clearly, because it gets softer on that part. Pete Rock did some clever mixing.

  • listen 0:12 - 0:14

  • The sample starts at about 0:10, but the part at 0:12 starts first.

  • ITS YOURS

  • 0:01-0:15 makes me think of walking threw central park in new york city in the autum time and the leaves are brown golden all around. damn thats real music when it can make u draw up a scene to it. peace ahmad

  • wow bein from ny i feel what u mean...

  • show the world yours!

  • pure genious to listen to that little bit and think you know what i will sample this and it wil lsound great. fuck me does it possibly the greatest hip hop sample of all time

  • 0:10-0:17 made hip hop history...

  • whos world is this?

  • The world is yours, the world is yours

  • is mine, is mine, is mine

  • Wow! Always wondered where that sample came from.

  • admal jamal is a great pianist

  • Ahmad Jamal is my favorite pianist

  • Primo also used this for one of Jeru's songs. I think papers.

    starts around 0:51 ?

  • "Me or the papes"

  • nice username!!

  • If anyone is actually looking for this song it's on the CD called The Awakening, Ahmad Jamal Trio or you can get it on Itunes. This guy is out of this world, you would have to have nerve damage not to be able to feel his music.

  • DJ Cam sampled this track in his song "Hip-Hopera", which also contains a sample of "NY State Of Mind" by Nas. Sick thing is that the part of this song that Cam samples is completely different from the part Pete Rock sampled for "The World Is Yours". so how I managed pick it out I do not know, cos i'd never heard this track before. Talk about musical journeys!
