When you say 'rubber' wrapping your cell, are you meaning to refer to a plastic dip or spray on?
I have had limited success with the spray on plastic dip. At some point the electrolyte solution gets up underneath it and start it separating from the cells.
It works really well up until that starts happening. ;)
gold plates shouldn't tarnish

No it is a 4" heat shrink. It is pricey and hard to get.
