simple really, the chain link is magnetic

the little chain nob part detaches and reattaches, (magnets)

i think there is a fishing line or some thin string that is between the ring and the chain. so when the chain falls it has to push through the nob

Steve, a fellow and his patent lawyers are trying to patent that trick. Just google 20080207343 to see it. You can either block him or, if he gets the patent, perform this trick with his permission, and maybe pay him royalties, too. Let's see what happens with this patent application, shall we? Yes, of course it should be rejected, but the patent office does NOT routinely check to see if prior 'art' exists. The USPTO assumes that there is NO prior art.
