So what if she had sugery. She was a beautful woman , a style of her own , grace, and beautiful voice. I loved the song Fever ...I will always enjoy lstening to her.
I take your point ...but you're a little unfair . She had a bad Bells Palsy .,..so the right side of her face is paralysed here , and is pulled up by plastic surgery . Hence Peggys appearance .
i find it so freaky that i wrote a song called "woman" using the same chord progression!!! either im the next peggy lee (I WISH!) or i heard this when i was really young and just remembered it while writing!!!!
im a huge peggy lee fan since discovering her!!!! (yeah, sure, im an ignorant youth for only just discovering her now... but this is amazing!!!!!!)
Could anyone tell me this: where can I find her rare songs, I mean:
Somebody Nobody loves
That's the way you're breaking my heart
and in single song: The best is yet to come?
Because I've heard those songs in Bernard& Doris, but there's no soundtrack.... pity,eh? But I need these songs 'cause they're remembering me a very pleasant moment of my life. :)
I have her album (vinyl) called "Sugar N' Spice" and the studio recording of "The Best is Yet to Come" is on that. You can get the CD at Amazon. It's a great, great album!!
Yeesh. Why do people who don't know anything talk as if they did?? Two years before this performance, Peggy Lee caught an illness that left the right side of her completely paralyzed, and she even went temporarily blind. Plastic surgery actually helped to partially hide the paralysis
NO ONE pulls of THE BEST IS YET TO COME as well as Miss Lee does. I can listen to her sing it over and over and over..............she was the BEST!!!!

This is where all you black women out there have a real advantage: take Dame Shirley for example ! She's way over 70, and she still looks great with either no or minimal surgical tricks !
More ? Well, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Evelyn "C" King, and (no I know she's not that old yet) - SADE.
She was 61 singing here, She died at the age of 81 from a heart attack. Apparently she worked up close to her death, even tho she used a wheelchair had to take oxygen in between songs!
wow.... how old is she here?? she looks great! i love her hair! :P:P:P I just love to listen to the second song! :P i like this version better than the one in the 60's mainly cause of the sound quality.. i cant stand the buzzing of old recordings.... but the song is still wonderfull!!! :):):)
Really glad you enjoyed this . She's 62 here , and still in good voice . The original 60's version is fully digitalised on CD now , though !! Gareth .
melinda doolittle's version is by far better than this original. it's just like how witney houston's version of i will always love you surpassed dolly's original.
Witney Houston surpassed Dolly Partons amazingly tender and sensitive original ???? Melinda Doolittle surpassed the great Peggy Lee ??? Oh my goodness !!! Well , I guess it's good that we don't all sharte the same "taste ".
Well it may not be just my opinion but you see, the record and the media have a tendency to make the copycat versions more popular than the original. Just like the drift away song by uncle kraker and dobie gray. I never knew dobie gray had sang the original a long time ago. So perhaps many of our opinions are based on airplay and popularity.
LOL!! No worries ...everone has different tastes . With this clip , though , Peggy Lee is in her 60's , so this isn't really the "original" ...which was much more firey . The original was a huge hit back in 1963 .
hey puglet thanks!!! at least you're not cursing me out for having a slightly different viewpoint. Wish many ppl are understanding like you are.... Only then will i hold out hope for humanity. and hey thanks for the info.
Melinda's version is fine but it should not be praised to the skies, because all she did was copy the "hot mad mama" way in which the song was sung in Leiber & Stoller's cabaret revue. Nothing wrong with that, mind you. Because Peggy's style is subtler and softer, she didn't take the "growling, threatening mama" route. I like both versions. (Btw, this here is not Peggy's original, but a performance from decades after she first recorded the song.)
I knew Mama Peg, and miss her so much. This video reminds me of her much more than any of the others. It really shows her heart and soul as those of us who knew her saw first hand. I love you Mama Peg!
I remember this show. I'm 100% certain it was this one where she sang what is without a doubt the most moving and perfect version of the song "My Father " I have ever heard. Do you have this ? I do hope so. Thank you for posting this clip of the great Peggy Lee.
Yes, you're right , but she also had a really bad facial paralysis at this time and needed some drastic surgery to pull up the right side of her face ...which was drooping .Hence the rather rigid look. She was plagued with health problems from the early 70's.
The one and only Peggy. Have both of these on original vinyl recordings.

Puglet7: Thanks so much for clarifying that Peggy Lee's appearance in her
later years was due to Bell's Palsy requiring surgery!
I never listented to her for her looks -
it has always been for that amazing
voice of hers! One-of-a-kind!
