I just can't see that line as redundant. I take it to mean "with" in an emotional sense, and "beside" in a physical sense--Raoul understands Christine's thoughts and fears but is also there to protect her from real danger. At the very least, repetition for emphasis also makes sense, due to Christine's frantic state of mind at this point in the show.
