@irishmarc1 there's more than one way to do a power snatch or clean, the jump emphasizes the Power and helps react to ground forces to accelerate for a more powerful, fluid movement. Driving your feet into the ground isn't wrong, it's a matter of preference, but the jump makes it more fluid and powerful. she has great form, it takes a lot of skill to perform this exercise with that type of consistency, explosion, coordination, power, whole body strength and range of motion. I give it an A
yeh i dunno about snatchs, except a womans. it looks to me like ur just gonna grind ur rotator cuffs down. i do hang CLEANS to great effect. they make every muscle for opening doors, lifting things and punching things way stronger. way way stronger
Crosfit is awesome, but i will agree her form is off, she is leaving the weight out too far from her body. Maybe she's still learning, giver her a break!
can somebody please tell me what the difference is between the hang snatch vs the power hang snatch?! can't find any good youtube demos to see the difference.
how are they ruining olympic lifting?! At least they are doing something and getting it out there... Her form is not good but her dedication is... Better to do something and learn from your mistakes then sit at home and criticize everything someone does with some cheetos in your left pocket...
@fedexmol They're not getting it out there properly. Most of them do it incorrectly (as seen here) and then they go and act as if they invented it. Generally Crossfit people don't give any credit to anyone but themselves or their "buddy" who showed them how to do it.
Then they think they know it all and try to teach other people how to do it, passing down their improper technique onto someone else. It's annoying.
The more people doing weightlifting, the better selection of athletes that will be available to lift the sport to its deserved glory and to have better representation at the Worlds and the Olympic Games.
As far as I can see, the sport of weightlifting has never been so popular. This in big part because the Crossfit community has adopted the lifts due the recognition of their benefits. To say crossfitters shouldn't do weightlifting is like saying anyone that doesn't have "perfect" form on anything shouldn't do that particular activity. Why don't you guys make the Olympic lifts easier to understand for the people that are just starting out instead of driving them away.
@mesomorfo Crossfitters and do Olympic lifts all they want. The problem arises when they approach people in gyms and try to pass out advice. Following the latest trend and doing Crossfit for 6 months does not make someone qualified to hand out Olympic Lifting advice. So should they not lift? Not at all. But they do need to stay quiet. Congrats, you do Crossfit, you're super cool ! Leave me alone !
@paldri At least they are trying to make progress on their lifts and spread the weightlifting love which is more than can be said about you. You say Crossfitters should Stay quiet, maybe the problem is that you are not doing your job spreading the sport and teaching others. Yes, I do Crossfit, I am a certified W.L. Club Coach since 2001 and Yes, I am Super Cool.
@mesomorfo My job? I have about as much interest spreading the word about Crossfit as I do in getting cancer. Taking a two day course to become "certified" by Crossfit to teach Olympic Lifting is simply a joke. I will give credit to whoever marketed Cross shit though. They convinced people to buy toed shoes and pay $150/mo to hang out in a room with other elitists jerking and twitching themselves all over the place. Like I said, yay for them. Just don't open yer mouth to me about it.
@paldri I see your beef is with Crossfit, whatever reason you may have is fine with me, its your loss not mine. But We were talking about weightlifting, which is the reason of my comment. I agree with the 2 days certification process, it is not enough time to get in 2 days what takes years, I get it, I believe the same thing. But that are present on everything, including Weightlifting which is also a 2 day certification. Do you think Mike Burgener is also a joke? He teaches the W.L at crossfit..
@mesomorfo That has been my point from the very beginning, which apparently was 4 months ago according to my post. My initial argument was in regards to Crossfit ruining Olympic Lifting by spreading their sloppy ass, poorly taught techniques all over the place and then bragging about it. And Mike Bergener is a 65 year old veteran of the sport for 40+ years, his focus was Olympic Lifting long before the Crossfit fad. I'm sure the people he trains lift just fine.
@paldri looks like somebody missed out, thought he was elitist, and nobody asked him to coach crossfit, so now he's all mad and sore... awwwwwwwwwwww................
@tzotzo Your comment makes no sense. If you're trying to imply that the thought of coaching crosshit has ever even crossed my mind, you're quite mistaken. Heck, I wouldn't really want to coach anything. People are generally bad listeners and bad at taking advice. Especially here in the US, bunch of narcissistic pricks .... which actually, is even more prominent among crossshitters.
@mesomorfo And as a "W.L Club coach since 2001", you should be able to spot right away that this girl's technique is totally incorrect. Yet this is considered a "proper" example in the Crossfit community, by a "coach" no less??? Wtf. It's a disgrace to Olympic Weightlifting. Go look around youtube and find me an Olympic medal winner who looks at the floor when they snatch. Rezazadeh, Dimas, Suleymanoglu. You won't see any of them looking down.
@paldri Did I mention it was proper? People have to start some where. I bet when you started, you had the same problems and they got corrected with time. The point is this, There is no reason to draw such a big wall on people that are doing your same sport because they are not as "good" as you. Instead of flexing a hateful opinion on crossfit, why don't you share some of your expertise and help those that are not as good become better on the sport you love? Thats what Mike is doing...
@mesomorfo If you're saying this lift is proper then I don't believe for a second you're a weightlifting coach. And no, I never had these problems when I started. I made sure to learn it properly each step of the way to avoid forming bad habits like these. I'm not claiming to be a pro by any stretch, but I definitely know poor technique when I see it. As for helping people, I gave up on that ages ago. As a whole, people simply don't listen, usually because they think they're right.
I would like to hear comments on what can help her get rid of the excessive swinging instead of just pointing it out. Post some videos of how you guys do the lifts, that way everyone else can learn from your flawless performances. Everyone here seems to have enough knowledge of the lift as far as to point out the faults but someone that really knows the lifts can help correct them. Also, can someone explain How has is crossfit ruining Olympic lifting?
Fellas, Fellas. Her technique is a bit off (as we all know) because she is going as fast as possible. Point the fellas are making is, in "Olympic lifting" we try not to reinforce faulty neural patterning with several reps. She may be fast, but will not ever be able to lift heavy numbers inside that pattern, like a competitive Oly weightlifter can, who may have been trained to do the lifts since they were like 11.
This is TERRIBLE form. Also, wtf is the point of doing so many reps? Is she training to develop poor technique. These people are ruining Olympic lifting! Crossfit is so dumb!
@hipxtobesquare Well doing a lot of reps of a such an exercise is one hell of a workout, it improves your overall fitness...which is the point of Crossfit...There you go DUMBO!
@hipxtobesquare wow..TERRIBLE form? bit of an overstatement...they're doing this many reps because it's a demo video..do it once and nobody picks up the movement
@hipxtobesquare said while he has a bag of Fritos on the right hand, a plate of fried chicken legs on the left hand, PC perched on his fat belly... sipping on a Mega Gulp from 7 eleven.
A) If you think this is the worst form, you must be new. You should get out more often.
B) Yes, she's got a bit of a loop. She's not perfect, wow. I do the same thing, especially with light weights. Hell of a difficult habit to break. Maybe you should sue someone or ask YouTube for your money back.
C) Many coaches teach a flat-footed jump.
D) You've contributed nothing yourself that I can see.
this is no way "perfect form". it's pretty bad (see irishmarc's comment below - especially way to much jump and the bar travels very far away from the body, lots of scooping), especially with such light weight. technique should be the same with any weight.
The hang snatch would be caught in a full squat... Also the extension that elevates the bar is hips knees and (arguably) ankles, not shoulders (how do you extend a rotational joint?).
she is looping the bar a lot too (maybe due to light weight), her arms are almost straight out infront of her during 2nd pull.
@grambo22 ^^^ This she is swinging it out far too much. She is also "jumping' instead of driving her feet through the floor and then dropping or pulling herself into the squat position.
