  • "I'll talk to you everyday." That made me cry to bad! T_T

  • This movie was beautiful.

  • please make a piano version of this soundtrack in Synthesia

  • I, like many of you cried a lot on this movie, so amazing, such a great bond between father and son.. trying to survive this world without any hope ; (

  • Not the first movie that makes me cry but certainly the only one that touched the soul of the little girl inside me who misses her father and his protection sooo much.. RiP daddy I love u wherever u are :(

  • Great anti war movie. I like it. forger bad find good. carrying fire is some time necessary, if for peace then why not.

  • @2010pices it's not an anti war movie ffs. Where did it ever imply there was any war? By the clues in the movie, the change of climate, animals and plants dying etc, it all points to a large asteroid, or massive vulcano explosions all around the globe. Or probably both. Either way the reason to the apocalypse is not the subject of the movie, that's exactly why he didn't even bother writing what exactly happened.

  • @grcacar My English not much good, and I might not be right. I don't think it as a result of asteroid or volcano but something similar to it. These were the aftereffects of war definitely, spread over years and years, due to smoke in the sky all the trees had been died. You also saw gangs. When people are hungry don't have anything to eat, nobody care about them, so they had to join them. That's why boy said how long we will be good.

  • Great anti war movie. I like it.

  • Take notice of the nice things people are writing on this channel and then flip over to "Snoop Dog" or "Eminem" YouTube videos and notice the different. Nonaffecting my backside!

  • "We were so worried for you. But now we don't have to worry about a thing."

  • tab !!!!

  • Such a great movie with a beautiful message. Like a lot of others said, this is the first movie I've ever cried at. Not just a "MANLY TEAR" either; I just bawled.

    One of my favorite movies.

  • 0:10 is the tree falling scene.."Soon, all the trees in the world will have fallen." GOD I HATED HEARING THAT!!

  • @Abobojo God is not cruel but we ourselves doing wrong things to earn money just. This money (mainly pollution, wars, sins etc) is the cost that our next generation can't be paid. Look how weather is changing, sea surface raising, floods. snowing. Yes, god punishment would come as consequence. I pray to god, you can do anything, why can't you make us all understand.

  • This is the saddest song in the movie, and also my favorite one.

  • i cant find sheet music tutorials, tabs, NOTHING. so im learning it by ear. D:

  • ***** tohle si fakt zasloužilo Pulitzerovu cenu :) film u kterého jsem se rozbrečel :) miluju tenhle film

  • First movie ever to make me cry...the dog at the End, the Family - a piece of hope...fucking touching !! 10 out of 10 points for this movie...

  • Keep Carrying the Fire

  • Apparently, 4 cannibals were not able to get their lunch traversing The Road

  • I saw this movie when I was 12; I just thought it was intense.

But, 2 years later, age 14. I actually understand it. It was just so sad and inspiring. I watched it with my dad. I may not be a son, but he told me he imagined me as the child and him as the father throughout the movie. It's a great bonding movie, too. I wish I could find the sheet music to this. It's just amazing. The book, the movie, the music, everything.

  • This is one of THE BEST films I have ever seen. That's really all. I went into the movie expecting a LOT less than what I got. I love McCarthys work, and I'm glad that the movie was as good as it was. :)

  • I´m crying and crying...

  • This is one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen

  • @lMadvillain I agree. =)

  • my dad passed away some time ago .. and i watched this movie .. and i just cried my eyes out at the end cause i know that how sick that he would be he'd do the same for me.. god i feel so connected to this movie :)

  • @LevyCore my heart goes out to you, I worry about my parents mortality now that I'm a Dad myself, and I'd know that I'd do anything for my children. I've never seen this film, and I don't think I'd be able to without losing it myself. Know that we're all connected, and that love survives past life.

  • @asdf33 congratz on being a dad yourself mate

and it's normal that you would do that for your children

my dad passed of a sickness aswel

and that's just what makes me feel so connected to this ..

yeah i think it does to .. it's just a pain in the ass for those who remain here

  • @LevyCore I am sorry to hear that..Your dad must be a great man, he will be always watching over you in heaven and feel so proud that he has such a good child like u :)

  • Everyone focusing on relationships and hope in this book/movie, but did any of you get the saddest part of it? A little hint - there is a point why that "last family" had a dog. Actually, if there hadn't been that dog, the stroy and whole conception would be mediocre at best.

  • This was an excellent film. I glad I watched it. Many people said it was shit without any definition of why it was, either than their opinion. In my opinion, frankly, those people can shove it. This film spoke many words whilst crumbling upon the many fabrics that so many seem to greedily take. It's a sad state what the world will become, and hopefully, I don't live to see the apocalypse.

  • Damn it! This damned slideshow is making me wanna cry!!

  • The Novel was Much more Incredible than the movie... And the movie itself was awesome!!!

  • Such a wonderful movie in a good way of course not in a bad scary morbid way like its portrayed.

Trivia: Did you know the entire movie was shot in Braddack, Penselvania?

  • I am not gonna cry! i am not gonna cry!!

can't take it i am crying!!!!!!!

  • This song just speaks to the soul.

  • Can anybody tell me where to find the sheet music, chords or tabs for this song on piano? I would appreciate it alot.

  • my wife is pregnant, soon i will father,, i wish i will father like this man

  • i still feel bad for that black man in the movie.

  • What is so incredible is that the father believes in hope while the boy was born.

That love is so powerful that'll make you suffer but bring you into somewhere wonderful.

  • that makes the movie even more sadder.

  • I prefer the book, but the movie is very good (:

  • this is some depressing shit...... :( . that movie was sad as hell

  • To love someone so much , you'd live in hell.

To love so much , when hope is lost , your hope is stronger then ever.

To love is to not just die for , but to live, to suffer , for.

    To have one purpose.

This boy will have a father , and he will know, and he will learn.

..if only all kids had a father that loved them.

  • @ugherhg :) nice.

  • Nick and Ellis are true masters. Moving piece.

  • hands down the best film of the decade. One of the most powerful movie going experiences ever! Carry the fire

  • If I were I god I would have made the world just so and no different, and so I have you.

  • Sheets anyone? I'd appreciate it, thank you.

  • "You forget what you want to remember, and you remember what you want to forget" - C.M 'The Road'.

I'm reading it now for the first time (read Blood meridian and enjoyed a few months back), annother 60 pages and i've finished but what a damn fine book it is. Even if there are inevitable changes and liberties taken i can't wait to see if the movie is as good.

  • "I know. I'm sorry. You have my whole heart... you always did."

  • i am agreeing with mycatisromeo we are going to be the end of ourselves and if that does happen i will be screwed ( i depend on synthetic insulin) :/ id be first to die off

  • Very very good movie. And a very sad ending

  • sad and real. tears fall now......

  • What a great film.

  • If we keep taking the path we're on, we will deplete our natural resources and go to war over the remaining resources, when the global economy collapses and food isn't getting to grocery stores, then riots and revolts will destroy the cities. This is the unavoidable process we are in currently - Fact: people are overshooting the planets sustainable carrying capacity by 20%.

  • @mycatisromeo i believe u dood! ppl r gonna fuck up big time in the future if we cant shape up soon

  • @CrushinRuSSian27 - People have already fucked everything up. I study this as a hobby - environmentalism, "Limits to economic growth", I take survivalism VERY seriously. I've got food and ammo; enough to last a lifetime. I hope for the best and prepare for the worst. A million dollars in the bank wouldn't help anybody if the economy collapsed - food, weapons and ammo are the only things of value. I don't want to scare you, but I don't think humans are capable of sustainability - at all.

  • I read the book, I was wondering what the incident was, either a asteroid hitting another part of the planet or a super massive volcano going off.

  • @Godzilla1985 Hi! Well, in the book they don't reveal what kind of incident it was. That is because the story is supposed to focus on the human, emotional bond between people. It was the author's conscious choice not to describe the incident - just because he thinks that whatever disasters MIGHT happen, we need to know what's important in life.

  • @nananas000 it's not just that, it's that if something happens like this, no one will really know what happened. it will just happen.

  • @nananas000

I think he made the right decision.

  • @nananas000 i agree, but I think it may have been nuclear war

  • @warwick2155 If it was nuclear war they would have died a long time ago without the needed gear. One microgram of Plutonium 239 can cause tumors in your lungs and bones if inhaled/ingested.

  • @IloveMIT8923 there could be survivers of a nuclear holocaust who havent been affected, there are always some survivers but would make sense why all the plants and animals have died

  • @Godzilla1985 Well with the sky always being grey, the waters poisoned and nearly all plant and animal life dead it was most likely an external source. An asteroid hitting a coastline would cause a tidal wave and produce massive ash clouds capable of covering the entire planet.

  • @Godzilla1985 In the theatrical trailers it shows quick glimpses of giant tornadoes, tsunamis, hurricanes, forest fires and huge lightening storms. Seems like mother nature just got pissed.

  • @Godzilla1985

"the event" or whatever caused the world to end, didn't matter. It was the relationship between the father and son that mattered. Carry The Fire

  • @Godzilla1985

It's actually plausible as a nuclear war considering the ash falling from the skies, clouded skies, and fires they talk about. Also, a nuclear attack would be at random and a lot less prepared for than a volcano or asteroid (sometimes scientists know weeks/months in advance). Let's not forget that McCarthy liked to talk about the savage nature of people, which works into a nuclear war well. That's just my theory.

  • I am a young man & cried at the end of movie ... beautiful relationship with his father and son the best movie of all times. Congrats from France !

  • @Gaaetan67

    cheers mate !

  • such an original fantastic film. 10 outta 10 this was brilliant

  • music by nick cave and warren ellis is perfect, such talented musicians

  • great video and music!

  • amazing track. the best of the movie . sweet and simple ."a make cry theme"

  • Viggo reminded me of my ex :( ....... what a movie what a story so passionate and breath taking......the way they loved each other as son and father was brillant a pure love with excellent acting.....love u viggo ;*

  • A masterpiece. Never has the end of the world looked so real yet so picteresque. This movie is near to perfection as possible. Gripping, moving, terrifying, heartbraking & poignant. It was so well executed. At times it felt like a true story, such is the power of the movie. I was overwhelmed with every human emotion possible. An epic journey that told a simple story in such an impacting way. Haunting stuff. This shd hav wiped the floor with the OSCARS. Wot a disgrace it didn't win anything.

  • What an absolutely stunning movie. I didn't see this at the cinema. Stupid me. This is probably one of the best movies I've ever seen. The end of the world has never looked so real yet so stunningly picturesque. Viggo & his son was amazing, Totally gripping, frightful, heartbreaking, breathtaking cinema. The directing, story & execution of this movie was so intense it seemed like a true story, such was the power of this movie. Shd hav wiped the floor at the OSCARS,it's a crime this didnt win.

  • Brilliant book...brilliant movie...brilliant soundtrack...

  • NO COMMENT ... it's been to ... way to long since I've seen such a great movie with a perfect soundtrack, maybe it's better he has no awards, less publicity makes it even more fantastic, not like that crappy Avatar witch has no story line.

THX for a great movie and for the best soundtrack perfectly adapted to it.

It's good to know that there are still some guys making good movies.

  • beautiful song, and a very good movie!. liked it alot

  • One of the excellent stories ever , great music

  • So glad to hear it! I definitely agree with you! "Keep carrying the fire"!

  • meravigliosa

  • Recomendada 100%

  • Great movie!!!

  • I agree! Keep carrying the fire!

  • Fucking excellent movie. I love how all of Mccarthy's book adaptations have remained so faithful to the books he wrote.

  • Great that you loved the film! I love it to! I have finally seen it! Keep carrying the fire!!!

  • Thanks very much for uploading this, I wouldn't say the music made the movie but it really helped convey the power of it, especially this track. I teared up at the end which is something I do only very rarely in movies.

  • Great that you appreciated the film! Thanks for watching my vid! KEEP CARRYING THE FIRE!

  • Will do!

  • totally i cry just at the end... the last sentence can mean so much things!

    incredible movie a must see

  • nananas000 Cut out the anti-american comments . that kind of undercuts your appreciation and the positive message you have for this movie ..that is something the cannibals would have said .. not the THE MAN .. nor THE BOY .. People have different opinions of the movie ..so respect their views .. BUT but I do respect your view .. I want to see the movie ..

  • I do respect their views. I DON'T respect being attacked for my nationality.

I only made that one comment about Americans just to defend myself from a jerk who suddenly sucker punched me about my nationality when we were just discussing The Road. He shouldn't hit me below the belt like that.

And if someone doesn't like the film, and just wanna criticize, don't come crying to me about it. He could have gone to IMDB or one of those forums for apocalyptic films.

    Thanks for commenting! Bye!

  • I didn't mean it was scary, I meant was dark as in the screen was dark, as in I couldn't see what was happening half the time cause of the amount of shadow. Day time scenes were fine, but anytime they moved inside or at night it was just really hard to make anything out. What I mean't about the Dark Night was that the movie was so covered in shadow that half the time all you could see was the actor's head and nothing else - hence floating heads.

  • Oh, I see.... hahaha..... Sorry, I misunderstood!

The level of darkness is hard to say. Compare it with the trailers and clips on the net? Maybe.

  • I watched the first half hour of this with my family and we had to stop. Is the movie supposed to be so dark and shadowy? It reminded of the floating heads from the Dark Night. Also half the time no one could understand what the main character was saying, it seemed like he was always mumbling or whispering so we only ever heard half the conversations. I like the look of it and I got a sort of Children of Men vibe about it. Just could have toned down the shadows a bit.

  • Oooh, I don't know if this is really a family film... Not for young children at least.

I actually don't remember that part of Dark Knight. I'll have to see it again.

The film is supposed to be very dark. To show the horror of if the world turned out this way. After all, it is a post apocalyptic film, a dark one. The film is supposed to show both hopelessness and hope at the same time. You just have to trust it.

I would try to watch it again another time. Maybe read the book first.

  • Love the concept to the movie and think it has great potential, but the constant shadow just annoyed the hell out of me. Also I was wondering if anyone thought the main character spoke in a mumble or if that was just bad sound quality on my end.

  • Well, Viggo mumbles a little when he is acting as well as he is. If I were you I'd wait for a proper dvd, maybe. Don't know.

  • This is one of the most edifying dicsussions on Youtube.

    Here's my 0.02:

In the face of disaster, where everyone is not only born equal but struck down equal, then the true nature of humanity will be revealed.

Some may say humanity's true nature is evil.

    I think it is good.

Sure, some people will be evil and cannibalistic, but like in the Road, good and hope will still live on. Hence 'the fire'.

  • I think you are right.

The fire - it might be a metaphor for the duplicity of the story. Good - evil. The warmth and the danger.

Good that you liked the film!

  • @nananas000 I've only read the book, it hasn't come out in Australia yet!

  • I see. But you must be excited, huh? Does the film come out this weekend?

  • The acting was superb, but the film was filled with unbelievable sadness, filled with a selfish wife who abandons her husband and son, cannibalism because of some inexplicable disease that has killed only animals, and a hopeless and pointless journey that can only have one result. I came away from the movie more depressed than I've been in a long time. I would not watch it again.

  • I'm sorry you didn't get more out of the film.

But I have to say you haven't understood the story completely. It's about hopelessness and hope at the same time. How people can evolve to be better people even when there is no hope.

It may LOOK depressing, but that's the beauty of it. That.... life can go on.... even through the worst possible conditions. That's hope in a nutshell.

    Keep carrying the fire!

  • Well, I don't think that Viggo evolved; he was a loving and caring father right from the very beginning. His wife actually DEvolved until she walked out into the freezing night to kill herself. The son, I have to admit seemed to evolve in that he grew to care more for life and the humane treatment of others (although there was no depiction of him not caring for life to contrast with.) Robert Duvall's character did not evolve. You may see beauty in depression, but I do not.

  • I'm not saying that Viggo's character or his wife evolved. Well, Viggo's did, The Man realizes that his son has become the better of the two, the one who is like a moral compass for them. He realises his need to protect his son made him have bad morals to others. So in the end of the story he is satisfied with the influnece he has had on his son, even though he himself might have evolved for the worse.

But foremost, what evolves is the AUDIENCE. Not only the characters in the film.

  • The film is depressing: people EAT each other (an absolutely disgusting concept which was never fully justified--why did all animals and crops die but not people?) The journey ends in them reaching the coast--for what? There is no hope for any of them. All humanity will end the same way: in death. The 2 carry on, but we know all food will eventually run out. Disease will be rampant. There is no cure for the world. You should watch Day of the Triffids. Far superior post-apocalyptic show.

  • Don't you think cannibalism would be a reality if real people ran out of food? Sure, some people would be cannibals! Bad people, but still people. Like that football team that crashed in the Andes. They had to eat the dead people to survive.

I think most animals died like 10 years before the story begins. So it's only resonable the few that were left haven't been able to find each other and have any offspring.

The Man and the Boy want to get to the south to be in a warmer climate.

  • You said there is no hope for them - then I guess you justify what the Wife did? You would have given up too? You wouldn't have fought for your son till your last breath? I think it is brave what the Man did and the Boy did.

But before you said that the Wife was selfish to do what she did (no spoilers). But now you say they should all give up like she did? It's a contraxiction.

  • I like The Day of the Triffids because the main character is really likable. Despite a harsh world of death and Triffids (nasty killer-plants), he finds happiness with Jo, the love of his life. He rescues people. He finds happiness on a remote farm. He joins a group. There is real hope for humanity, unlike in your horrible movie. I thought you were American the way you insist that only your viewpoint is correct and don't want to admit that someone else has a valid point. Swedish? No way!

  • Excuse me? I was trying to be nice to you even though you only came here to critisize. YOU are the one who can't admit you are wrong. You're wrong cause you said the Wife was selfish and yet you would just give up yourself, like her.

I don't need to defend a brilliant movie based on a genious book that most people LOVE and has won the Pulitzer Prize and been in Oprahs book club.

I agree that many Americans insist that they are always right. That's why it's so obvious you yourself are one.

  • it wasnt disease, the animals died because the plant life died after the ash blocked out the sun.

    a beautiful movie.

  • No, there was no disease, you are right.

Wonderful that you liked the film! Keep carrying the fire!

  • I saw this at the London Film Festival back in September, I was in a state when this piece came on at the end of the film. Anyone who has read the book would know what I'm talking about, but this theme enhances the drama and brilliance of the film.

After seeing thousands of films in my lifetime, I would put this as my favourite. Kodi Smith-Mcphee gave one of the best performances I've ever seen, and Viggo Mortensen as always showed me that he is the greatest actor in the world.

  • God, that makes me so happy to hear! I totally agree with you. About Viggo as well as The Beach. Both are superb. I can't wait to see the film! Thanks again!

  • Great! I certainly don't blame you! I can't wait to see the film and I hope I will feel the same way! Great that you loved The Beach too! xoxo

  • Amazing film. Very compelling. Mortensen gives one of the greatest performances I've ever seen. This film has the best acting I've seen in a while.

  • Wow! I haven't seen the film yet (14 days left til it comes out in Sweden) but I have no doubt you are right! Viggo is always so good! Definetly the best actor ever lived.

  • Beautiful! can't wait to see the movie! This is one of the best books I have ever read!

  • I definetly agree! Thanks for watching my vid! xoxo

  • Bien hecho por el director, es un buena pelicula

  • I always envisioned the beaches around Charleston S.C. for this part of the book, having grown up there as a kid. I hope they do the story justice. The music sounds great.

  • This is one heck of a good movie. Oscar for Viggo. Amazing story.

  • This was the first movie that I worked on based from a book, that everyone on set was reading whenever there was downtime. The movie follows very closely. I cannot wait to see it myself. .

  • ¡Aguante Viggo, te mandamos un abrazo grande desde Argentina, te queremos mucho!

  • I was surprised to see Viggo linked a video on PP, but in this case, I can understand him.

The video is 'plain' in a good way, it's not much of a show but allows the music and the pictures to just make you 'feel' the story. In that way this video is better than most of the official trailers. Your intent is not to sell the movie, but to give people a very deep impression, an emotion about this movie.

Congratulations, very well done. And thank you.

  • Thank you so very much! That really means a lot to me.

  • I looked for in PP but I found nothing! Where should I look for?

  • Just scroll down on the first page. A picture of The Road with Viggo and Kodi, who plays his son. It's under a few other pictures a bit down by now.

  • Thanks!!! ;-)

  • OMG this is looking bleak but compared to my life it's a lark.

  • nananas. I really think Viggo saw your video and liked it, otherwise he wouldn´t have posted the link in PP. He certainly doesn´t post things that he doesn´t like or isn´t interested in. Again, congrats and thank you for your good work.

  • I hope Viggo watched it himself. Thanks again!

  • Found it in Perceval Press, too. nananas, you lucky girl!. Great music, very moving, & great vid. Thank you for sharing.

  • Thank you very much! Yes, I was so unbelievably happy to see that Perceval Press linked here! I still can't believe it!

  • That's awesome. Good for you.

  • The music is lovely and yes, the movie is likely bleak... but not as bleak as the times we're actually living in. Our world has already ended. We're just won't notice until the malls close down.

  • The music is very sweet but The Road looks like it's rather a bleak movie! Cool that Viggo linked to here from the Perceval Press site. ;-) That's how I found the video.

  • OMG! I can't believe it!!!! Perceval Press is has a link to my video???? My biggest idol has seen my video!!!! Thank you so much, Astartiel!

  • Glad to let you know! I was surprised that the video he'd posted lead to YouTube as well! Wish I'd thought of such a video... ;-)

  • The music is very sweet but The Road looks like it's rather a bleak movie!

  • Well, yeah. The production companies had a difficult time advertising it because it was apparently very depressing. That's not say that there isn't a glimmer of hope, because at the end, I'm sure there will be.

People said that the book "rips the life from you," but not in a bad way, if that makes sense, lol. This film has a lot of good reviews, so I am very excited to see it.

  • Keep carrying the fire.

  • this is enchanting! you should check out the score for "The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford". it's also by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis.

  • 2:10 Guy Pearce?

  • Yes, it's Guy Pearce. And Robert Duvall is the old man in a few shots. People have said you can hardly tell it's him. I'm so glad you liked the music!

  • Thanks for the upload!

  • Thank you so much! Finally! I've been waiting to hear this track. It's very hopeful sounding. Can't wait for the film.

  • Thank you so much. I'm in love with the soundtrack and absolutely can't wait to see the film!

  • Thanks for this.

  • You're very welcome.
