after he pushes d5 at around 1:40 in the video, why not Be5 with Nf3 in mind for the next move? if he takes the knight, exf3 and then Be2 and you might be able to start a pawn storm using your doubled f-pawns. if he doesn't go Bxf3 then you would just push e3 and develop the bishop normally.
After he pushes d4 with his pawn, attacking your bishop (around 3:15 in the video), why do you not take the pawn? It seems like that at least preserves your queenside pawn structure.
@Treewstx I think at the time I was just thinking that if my pawns are going to be as ugly as this, I had better come out a pawn ahead at least for the moment.
@ChessNetwork you would have still come out ahead on a pawn if you would have eaten his pawn at d4 then he eats your bishop at d4 then you eat his bishop at g4 given you a pawn a bishop vs his bishop and keeping your pawn structure . unless im seeing something wrong here
@misteratoz It would be unfair to Jerry,s oppenents, I think, but you are right, besides the interesting games themselves, this videos make me laugh out loud wondering just how he does this. Wonderful!
Hey Jerry do you think playing blitz games are a positive way for a beginner to improve their chess? or are they more for masters who have already spent years learning and can think quicker and just see better moves through experience?
Hey man I really enjoy that you show terrible games like this because for us non grandmasters they really are a reality that we encounter now and again. After he played d5 I think you should have played kf3 and then after he plays d4 you played bishop to d2. That keeps all your pawns and everything together and allows you to potentially develop your white bishop to g2.
I really want to play you some games I am rated 1900 standard, but people tell me I am actually rated much higher. FICS!! :)
In the end game phase... The reason you didn't take the pawn was why? :( Was it so the rook and bishop won't connect in attacking the king? Thanks in advance! -Kevin =)
The opening was rough. I thought white's best chance at an advantage was 4.d5 e5 5.Bc1 Nce7 6.Nc3 c6 7.dxc bxc 8.e4 Nf6 9.Be2 Qc7. I don't really like 5.bxc exf 6cxd Rb8 7.Qd4 Bxf3 8.exf Qd5 9.Qb8 Qc6+ Kd8 b3 Nf6. And 10.fxg leaves white's pawns a mess. 10.Bxd4 Qxd4 11.fxg keeps Q-side intact. After the opening you played really well. The game was headed for a draw but 47. Kb7?? Bg7! -+ instead 47.Kxb5 and black is slightly better, but probably still drawable. Overall good game. ghfmp
@ghfmp Thanks for the thorough analysis! Good insight. I only disagree with one thing...47. Kb7 I give !! instead of ?? since it wasn't time to be finding best moves, but instead to be premoving! =)
Thanks for continuing to comment. I look forward to more of your analysis. =)
Haha, it did look like you were on the verge of losing for a bit.
Well, I think I might have played b3 instead of f3, but then I can't really say anything as you would've probably crushed me in an actual match.=p My FICS blitz rating invariably hovers around the 1500-1600 area.
I like these videos....subscribed...come out with more...i learn a lot from your videos because you explain your reasoning behind moves and i like to see the perspective from someone rated 2000+.
I think, you should make another video, but playing a guy that much higher than you, it will teach us how to play against stronger opponents! It doesn't matter if you win or lose, as long as it was a good match :)!
I actually really like these live blitz games. It allows us - the less good chessplayers - to know what pros like you are thinking DURING a game (instead of after).
Hey I like your videos but this game was indeed pretty ugly and i think it would be more interesting for the audience if you comment games with more time on the clock, those blitz games have really little educationnal value.
@flamboyant514 Thanks for the feedback. That's how it is though with Blitz games. It's variety and I can't posted games longer than 11 total minutes. Youtube doesn't allow such. =(
@ManosKoukoutos Yeah...But that's how it is. Playing with little time has the added strategy where you can maybe not make the best move objectively, but a second-rate one which will make your opponent have to use their time to think. I appreciate the comment Manos! =)
@ChessLectures There are other humans higher there. Command "hbest" shows the top human players. Yeah, I can relate to the feeling associated with being accused of computer use as well, however not at FICS.

Also, I cringed at your position haha, I really felt like "oh noo! this looks terrible, gah!", but you did very well and I admire your cool, I really do! I also admire how you seem to focus a lot on the commentary part, even when in these kinds of situations!
@ChessLectures Why not h3? At the time it simply wasn't one that I was considering. Much better candidate to f3...that's for sure. d5..h3...nf3 all better than what i played imo. I appreciate the time you've taken to help me out. =) *handshake*
@nottybanks7 I think would be too difficult to comment during. It'd have to be just me playing and maybe pointing out particular squares as the game progresses.
Thanks for the suggestion. You're a loyal commenter! =)
Probably because I wasn't nervous about a difficult position. Though, I never thought you were in that bad of a position - you had a pawn to compensate for the weaknesses.
@kevinhdo90 Nope. I wouldn't have won. It'd be the one fighting to draw. In the time scramble KxP instead of Kb7 was better with the likely computer evaluation 0.00
Actually, as terrible as it looks, your position only fluctuated from equal to slightly worse according to Rybka.
Seeing thru some of ur games, I see you like to develop ur minor pieces before pawns if possible. I think this impedes u from developing a slight adv. as white in this game. For instance, if you had just developed normally with plans to push e4 in ur 2nd or 3rd move, you would have secured a slight advantage as White.
Well, if you had played e4 in ur 3rd move, you could have played this sharp, interesting variation: 1. d4 Nc6 2. Nf3 d6 3. e4 Bg4 4. d5 Ne5 5. Nxe5 Bxd1 6. Bb5+ c6 7. dxc6 Qa5+ 8.
Wow! I absolutely admire your cool! I would have been totally devastated already after having to lose a piece in a fork so early on, and I would have been pretty much clueless after starting the mid-game a piece down and with two cases of doubled pawns. I really admire players with perseverence.
Well, actually, I'd like to add my pressure into getting you to consider a video in parts of a 10-min. game. We could learn some proper endgame :) But--anything will do! It's great you keep'em comin:)
Good game Jerry- probably not the best opening but it was interesting to see how useful your white bishop turned out & also how his dark bishop was useless in the middle game. Please keep uploading this type of videos they are very useful. 5 stars as usual
That was freaken awesome, 5/5, keep the games coming! Wow, man seriously, that was pretty good match, if he didn't take so much time to move that brook, you would of probably drawn! By none the less you got lucky and won again! That was amazing game, because he pretty much had you beat from the first couple of moves, but you managed to come back!
Sure thing! It'll be tough...you might not be able to play a whole game through, but at least shooting to make legal moves, let's say 15 moves in without getting crushed, is an accomplishment!
Great video, love the blitz games. It's amazing how deep you read in just 5 minutes! If you ever want to play I have a FICS account as well, so just send me a message! 5/5
@websnarf Nothing...I guess my thoughts at the time didn't consider that move because my knight was already developed. I think that would have been better.
Like i said in your last vid, i clicked your channel being hopeful (but not expecting) a new video. and there it was, i was just like 'yay' =D keep it up man you're definately one of my favorite channels for sure. your analysis is top notch
@nottybanks7 Play an online game where you don't view the board, but instead just the game's notation. You wouldn't move your pieces with the mouse, but instead you'd have to punch in via a command. Should improve your visualization skills/memory.
Phew! You got away with that one. I'd like to see a game between you and Kingscrusher. You could both give live commentary! That way we could see the thought process from both sides.
@ChessNetwork On FICS I'm around 1400, and just a little bit today I happened to beat a 1600! Yay for me. I don't really study chess or do puzzles, but I think I'm going to start.
Wouldn't have it been better if at minute 3:18 you had played bishop takes d4? Your pawn structure would have have been so bad.

Thanks for the suggestion but youtube doesn't permit me to upload a video longer than 11 minutes. I wouldn't want to do a Part 1 of 2 type either.
Thanks for the compliment/rating!

I'm sure we'll get a game in eventually. =) Thanks for continuing to comment/rate. It's appreciated dude! =)

Instead of f3 what was wrong with Nf3?
websnarf 2 years ago
@websnarf Nothing...I guess my thoughts at the time didn't consider that move because my knight was already developed. I think that would have been better.

huh whats blindfold ive heard of it
nottybanks7 2 years ago
@nottybanks7 Play an online game where you don't view the board, but instead just the game's notation. You wouldn't move your pieces with the mouse, but instead you'd have to punch in via a command. Should improve your visualization skills/memory.

Phew! You got away with that one. I'd like to see a game between you and Kingscrusher. You could both give live commentary! That way we could see the thought process from both sides.
TheChessvids 2 years ago
@TheChessvids Yes...no doubt about that. That would be very cool. Two angles of thought.
ChessNetwork 2 years ago
@ChessNetwork Yes, I agree, perhaps you should schedule a match of 5!
Anyway, interesting game, I absolutely love your commentary. And I would love to play you, even though you'd destroy me
BdizzleFaReal 2 years ago
@BdizzleFaReal Yeah...match of 5 would be good! =) Thanks for the comment and rating?! =)

@ChessNetwork On FICS I'm around 1400, and just a little bit today I happened to beat a 1600! Yay for me. I don't really study chess or do puzzles, but I think I'm going to start.
BdizzleFaReal 2 years ago
@BdizzleFaReal You beat a 1600? FaReal? =)
